Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

Think you look lovely and it would be fine for a wedding. I love the colour, it's so pretty.

I'd accessorise it with these:

Look on Crew Clothing, there is longer length dress called something like 'Oversize spot dress '. I have tried to find a link and cannot, so frustrating!
It is white with large dark navy spots, I have this, and it is absolutely gorgeous, really glamorous and swishy. I always feel a million dollars in it, and always get lots of compliments when I wear it.
I know wearing white at a wedding is frowned on by some, it because of the pattern it isn't too white iyswim.
AND it is in CC 's sale!

Sorry I hate the original dress, although that sort of dress would be nice on you (I have a similar figure too), the colour is far too dull for you or the occasion.

Don't be scared of bright colours, they make people happy.

I know it's New Look but something like along these lines would look great: https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/dresses/cutie-london-green-button-front-maxi-dress/p/873265448 (other colours available too).

Something like these maybe? With some nice accessories?

OP - how about this on Vinted?
(It's not mine!)

It's cotton
Floaty but will hide a bit of sweat too
Runs big ( I have same style in a different print in a size 10 which is v big)

ExPreschoolTrustee · 19/07/2023 20:14

Or this one - has pockets?

ExPreschoolTrustee · 19/07/2023 20:21

Or Boden paisley - would also hide sweaty patches if it's super hot?

Hi op I’m also a tall, booby size 18.

how about this one on vinted? Looks airy and swishy and flattering, and it’s a colour but more in the palette you were considering…

avaviolet · 20/07/2023 07:16

It's a bit too casual for a wedding I think OP.

But I think the problem is the fabric (looks like jersey?) and the colour, rather than the cut.

You could get something in a similar flattering cut that is a nicer fabric and colour, maybe something a bit brighter?

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 20/07/2023 08:09

I don't like it I'm afraid, looks very 'drab' and a bit too casual for a wedding

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 20/07/2023 08:10

That's gorgeous and what an amazing colour

Notquitethere60 · 20/07/2023 08:24

I think you can do better than that dress OP. Look on John Lewis and filter for cotton. There are quite a few dresses on there that are much brighter. The Vinted dresses are ok but nothing jumps out at me.

Hi thank you for all the feedback! So it’s back to the drawing board!

I think the person who said about a decent bra is right, I’ve only worn nursing and sports bras for the last 18 months so going to get measured.

Ive ordered more dresses!

I tried on just one in Roman yesterday- difficult with toddler in tow- but it confirmed I need low cut rather than high neck.

I’ve tried this one on today and like it but feel self conscious of my tum and hips.
I’ve ordered some from M&S so will see how they go.
I’m just very nervous of bright colours and they seem to be dominating in the shops.

I think this dress is much nicer than any of the others that have been recommended on here that look like tents. I think you're too young to be shopping at Whistles and Boden just yet. This dress is a bit ill-fitting but this style suits you! Good luck dress hunting.

Zippeedidodah · 20/07/2023 09:03

It's a nice dress but it's not really something you'd wear to a wedding, my daughter is on opposite scale to you, she's tiny as in 4ft11 fo so finding her something to wear for prom was horrendous, she opted for a jumpsuit from boohoo who do nice clothes as well and not overly expensive
Try there see if you see anything you like they do tall sizes too

Zippeedidodah · 20/07/2023 09:06

Sorry not boohoo that was other site we looked through it was asos, try asos and boohoo ect something there for everyone

PragmaticWench · 20/07/2023 09:18

The fabric of the second dress you tried really doesn't do you any favours, it clings. Definitely avoid jersey fabrics, especially as they'd be boiling hot!!

The yellow Anthropologie dress above is beautiful, as is the multicoloured Anthropologie dress further up. Both would be much cooler in the heat and wouldn't cling. Roman dresses really are frumpy.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/07/2023 09:42

This? Would go down ok with fashionistas l think? Silk.

BuffyTheCat · 20/07/2023 10:09

Long Tall Sally might be a good bet if you’re tall with a large bust. The longer proportions could make the fabric ‘sit’ better compared with standard dresses, even if most of your height is in your legs.

Wizzbangfizz · 20/07/2023 11:08

@Jakadaal that mint velvet I shall be hoping it comes in the sale!

original dress and the second one def not glam enough - you look like you would really suit blue. Go bold and show
odd your curves!
