Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

The Hope and Ivy dresses are beautiful!

FindingTheFox · 17/07/2023 14:07

I love the green jumpsuit linked above, I think that could be dressed up beautufully with the right shoes & jewellery. I also really like the plaid dress.

The dress in the OP is ok but not weddingy - I'd wear that for the school run or supermarket.

KnittedCardi · 17/07/2023 14:13

40oC in a vineyard - I would suggest most of the above are way too covered. Too much fabric, long sleeves! As you are not in church, you can have something strappy, in very light fabric, cotton, linen, or silk, floaty, long is fine, but focus on the material and your comfort. It will be hot!

Maddy70 · 17/07/2023 14:19

It's not very flattering. You have a lovely bust. Go for something a little lower at the front. You will melt in 40 degree heat you are far too covered. Go for a bright colour that looks a bit too informal

I think you need a lot less fabric, something more flowy. Something like this is lovely. I don’t think you have to spend a lot of lineup either!

I’m in 38 degree heat. Keep in mind, boob sweat, thigh sweat, sweat dripping down your legs 😂
I’ve found you need maxi dresses that are light with little fabric- some of mine are definitely too flouncy for this heat. Bright sunshine means brighter colours look better.

You have a lovely figure!

Bearpawk · 17/07/2023 15:03

Is it sequins or spotty?
It looks a bit boring tea dress to me. Nothing particularly stylish/ classic or edgy about it.
Have you tried Zara?
Agree defo avoid polyester in that heat.

It's nice and I'd probably buy it but not for an occasion like you describe. But if you're going to wear it then get a better bra and hoik your boobs up further (I'm a veteran of norks heading south towards the waistband personally!).

You look size 14 and the dress is too meh for a wedding, back to the drawing board my lovely, you need to find something that makes you look and feel great.

MachinesOfGod · 17/07/2023 15:54

Definitely matronly on the chest area and very “meh”. Certainly not a dress i’d consider for a “fashion” wedding. But it’s very important that you’re comfortable and feel like yourself, and not like you’re trying to be someone else.

How old are you and what sort of dress size?

MachinesOfGod · 17/07/2023 16:02

Lots of brightly coloured “fashion” maxi options on Never Fully Dressed - unfortunately a lot of them viscose or polyester.

Attached a couple of examples, you might be horrified, however.

Nobody's Child has some lovely dressier dresses

midsomermurderess · 17/07/2023 16:08

It's entirely unremarkable. needleandthred.com does some pretty wedding guest dresses. They are quite expensive but there might be something in the sale
