Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

Thank you all for all the feedback-
I am awkward but definitely can’t do midi- has to be Midaxi minimum. I have a gigantic swollen varicose vein mid calf- want to have one more baby before I get it sorted.
I love Vinted for baby clothes but can’t really stomach spending £50 on something I can’t return…
The antropologie ones are absolutely perfect but pushing the budget…

halter neck is horrendous on me- I can post the evidence from Roman the other day!

I have done an order from M&S - one is too much like work west I think but I’ll post them

Won’t let me post options 2 & 3 😩 I’ll try again later

If it’s 40 degrees you are going to roast in all these long sleeved dresses.

fruitbrewhaha · 20/07/2023 11:23

This is the best on the thread.

If it’s going to be very hot. No polyester. No linings. Short or no sleeves.

Cotton and floaty is your friend.

Flyinggeesei234 · 20/07/2023 11:40

Why are people recommending polyester dresses for 40 degree heat?! Insane.

OP I agree the Anthropologie dresses (particularly the broderie) are gorgeous.
if beyond budget can you use them as the basis for search terms and find similar, cheaper?

JenWillsiam · 20/07/2023 12:29

It’s awful.

frumpy. Casual. It’s the kind of thing you throw on when you’ve just given birth, been in the sea or generally feeling meh. Sorry but I have nothing positive to say about it.

Easyontheeyes · 20/07/2023 12:37

Sorry op, I don’t like the ones you have chosen at all, including the khaki one you just posted. No one would look nice in that!

Agree that Anthropologie yellow dress is beautiful. But even if that’s out of your price range there are so many lovely dresses out there. Look forward to options 2 & 3 when you can post them!

DearSisterMichael · 20/07/2023 13:58

Just another enabler here saying you would look fab in the Anthro dress!

Horsedoglover59 · 20/07/2023 14:15

What about this - it's Monsoon, but at M&S - it would like nice with some nice jewellery and great shoes, and won't break the bank. Otherwise the yellow dress is by far the best on the thread.

Thanks I’ve just ordered this with my next M&S haul- we will see

This was another one but I think V neck would suit better

That’s a casual day dress!

Grimwood · 20/07/2023 16:19

Hi Op - I’m not tall but do have a big bust.

I’ve found things to avoid are square necks, high necks and sleeves with too much volume, particularly if they ‘puff’ ( so like the ones on the khaki dress because they come to a cuff). Short puff sleeves also can look a bit milk maid cos-play on big boobs I think ( particularly with a square neck!).

but of course if you like any of those things ignore and go with what you like/are comfortable in!

anon2022anon · 20/07/2023 16:28

This lady on Instagram is 5'10, size 18 and hourglass. I think she looks fabulous in all of the outfits she's tried on, and you might get a few ideas from the video.

sunglassesonthetable
has linked to some fab dresses.
They are cotton, and have a bit of a sleeve if you are worried about upper arms. But go sleeveless if you can.

You need something a bit looser than your original post for the heat and something with a V or low neck.

In a warm climate bright colours never look as bright. You can get away with things when you are in the sun that look too bright in rainy England.

Yes I agreed about it being a bit milkmaid!

That's gorgeous! Perfect shape for you and fabulous colours. In the hot sunshine you'll be so glad you went for something like this.

KnittedCardi · 20/07/2023 17:27

Awww, that looks lovely, and a bargain. I hope it fits and you like it and feel comfortable in it.

Helpimfalling · 20/07/2023 17:31

I can't imagine how it' would look dressed up, it's hard to tell, without hair and makeup, shoes etc.

Also-12-14 at a push

Catspyjamas17 · 20/07/2023 17:32

Lovely dress!

KnittedCardi · 20/07/2023 17:42

Damn - Gone down a rabbit hole looking at all the lovely dresses in the Anthropologie sale...... I don't need anything, I REALLY don't need anything....... 😂

deste · 20/07/2023 18:29

Someone above mentioned Roman, I like Roman for clothes as well but be aware they seem to have a problem with exchanges and refunds, Ive been waiting since April along with hundreds of others. Its a pity but i don’t know what is happening.
If the garments fit and you are keeping them then thats fine but be aware otherwise.
