Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

Option 1

Sorry this is not a good colour and very very plain for a wedding.

The dress in your original post is nice, but looks like something you’d wear to go to a bbq/the office.

The yellow Anthropology dress is stunning 😍

This is the best on the thread.

If it’s going to be very hot. No polyester. No linings. Short or no sleeves.

Cotton and floaty is your friend.

Agree this is stunning!

sunglassesonthetable · 19/07/2023 20:59

I saw this on someone with a similar figure and it looked sensational

Oh thank thats fabulous. And in blue.
@Namchani

The blue is lovely but only in an XS.

Cotton fabric with the eyelet holes should be lovely and cool .

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/07/2023 20:28

Twazique · 20/07/2023 20:01

This one has a polyester lining .

I quite like your oranges and lemons dress OP. I think if you are going to an outdoor venue abroad you can afford to be a little more casual .

Await to see the other dresses you have ordered - looks like you have got a good offer on the Anthropology one .

Shopping for weddings is so hard!

There is a brand called Scamp & Dude that do some lovely dresses for weddings, lots of maxis.

They do favour bright colours but I follow their group of facebook called “Scamp & Duders” and you see lots of people different shapes and sizes looking amazing in their dresses at weddings. Might be worth looking …

I’m afraid it is too frumpy for a wedding. You need something striking but floaty and comfortable for such hot weather. I think the dress I’ve attached would be perfect! On trend and little sexy with the split but covers any lumps or bumps! Hope you go and have the best time!

This? Would go down ok with fashionistas l think? Silk.

That's the best dress I've seen on this thread. The 2 Anthropologie dresses are very pretty and would do the job, but they are ordinary day dresses. This one isn't ordinary.

thebloodycatwontstopmeowing · 21/07/2023 00:12

Not keen on that at all, frumpy any day. Def not a wedding guest outfit.

Mummyofthewildones · 21/07/2023 00:18

This would look cute on you.
I've had several dresses from this site and they're lightweight, cool and flattering. This is £15!

It looks like the nighty I gave birth in. Sorry OP. Way to casual for a wedding. (Haven't RTFT)

MysteryBelle · 21/07/2023 00:35

You look lovely in that dress, Op.

Julietta05 · 21/07/2023 00:35

Don't forget Vinted! Lots of lovely outfits there, some of them are brand new for fraction of the price.

Lilly0909 · 21/07/2023 00:44

Hmmmm no, I'd wear navy if I were you. X

RLmadmum · 21/07/2023 00:58

Have you had a look on ChiChi? There's some gorgeous dresses on there and they're 40% off at the moment!

Me+Em do some lovely dresses (over ideal budget however cut well and hang well) and if you go for floaty trousers with a too then have a look at Beyond Nine and the Mabel cupro trousers - they’re gorgeous

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/07/2023 02:29

No way is that Cos dress frumpy. Christ there’s loads of really ‘frumpy’ dresses on here.

It’s sophisticated and different. Exactly right for a ‘fashion’ wedding. Used to work as a designer in the rag trade. I know what people like that wear. And it’s not overly patterned dresses in polyester or cotton with frills and patterns on them.

The only other dress on here that is bearable is the yellow one.

I'd have a look through the Scamp and Dude website - some of the dresses are fantastic - I've seen several that I'd love to get but I don't have a wedding to go to!

Agreed. After I posted I wondered if the "frumpy" comment was actually about the green animal print Dancing Leopard dress.

Apart from asserting your fashion credentials and making it all about you - you
might notice that the OP has a certain vibe to how she already dresses and has already said already she doesn't suit a halter neck.

sunglassesonthetable · 21/07/2023 07:38

And I think the poster was referring to the original OP and what OP was wearing in the first pic, not horror of horrors the dress you'd picked out.
