Seeking opinions on whether this is too frumpy?

Another wedding guest one…
Wedding abroad in likely 40 degree heat
Bride works in fashion and will have lots of fashion and influencer type guests in attendance
I feel very Mumsy in comparison!
I prefer a Midaxi/ maxi after pregnancy as I’ve got some lingering varicose veins

Trying to find a maxi in a fabric that’s not polyester and a colour that’s not lurid pink has been difficult…

This fits and I’d wear it at a weekend here but is it too meh for a wedding? And is it a bit too matronly on the chest?
Out of interest, what dress size do I appear?

Alternative suggestions welcomed!

So I just discovered there’s a hook to keep it closed! So going to go with this one. I do prefer the patterns of the more expensive ones, think this one might highlight redness, but can’t justify spending double for a different colour!

This is fabulous! Highlights your figure in a most flattering manner.

Easyontheeyes · 24/07/2023 19:08

That’s better!

BuffyTheCat · 24/07/2023 22:35

You look great! Glad you found the hook - the idea of wearing something underneath it sounds quite unappealing. You’d be much too hot.

caringcarer · 24/07/2023 22:50

It looks like a dress I might wear everyday to work. I think you need something a bit more formal.

Dinopawus · 25/07/2023 07:10

Love it! It really suits your shape. It also looks comfortable and cool and there is nothing quite so unstylish as looking like a hot mess in a high fashion mistake. I hope you have a fabulous time.

Horsedoglover59 · 25/07/2023 12:20

I like it - I think it looks good now you've found the hook!

All the men stalking MN are most displeased.

Oh that looks nice- and whilst I can't see your face / hair, I get the feeling that the pattern suits your colouring too- more so then the grey/black (or was it navy) that you posted before .

TopMog · 25/07/2023 22:12

Why do you crop the photos so the top of the dress and the neckline can't be seen?

Why is there a horizontal bar across the front?

I’ve bowed to pressure…sort of. I’ve ordered the Anthropologie one - but the one in the sale using a code so it was under £80

https://www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/the-somerset-maxi-dress8?color=039&size=XL&type=REGULAR&quantity=1

I returned that one it looked terrible IRL on me. So frumpy and curtain like.

Looks much nicer on you! Glad I returned it now I've seen how lovely it can look! It made my bust look cramped and frumpy.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 26/07/2023 15:04

I think it looks great on you- definitely the right choice 👍🏼

If you click on th picture you should be able to see more- obviously I want to preserve anonymity to a certain extent!

The bar in some pictures is because the mirror panels meet there- sorry!

What do you mean by formal? I'd assume that a boho maxi is ideal for an outside wedding in Italy.

So1invictus · 29/07/2023 14:53

If the wedding is in Italy (with Italians) then be aware that guests tend to go very formal. For an afternoon/evening reception you're talking long evening dresses. The female guests would also wear those to the church service.
Patterns are very uncommon. Bright block colours are more of a thing.
