@Alpacasoft I have a set monthly clothes budget as well, so far I have spent to the end of October, but at least I am still within my 2023 budget 😁.

Last year I bought the short sleeve circular tee, toast don’t seem to sell those any more. I’m finding them really comfortable in this weather , does anyone know if they are selling something similar? Thank you.

Snowyowl78 · 23/06/2023 09:38

Has anyone tried the Gansey Knit sweater in bone?

Stravaig · 23/06/2023 10:01

Found it! Not as colourful as I remember, add some hands thrown in the air in exasperation and a wee bit of stomping for full effect :)

On trousers, and why I hate the high waists, dropped crotches and cropped legs of the past 10 years.

I like waistbands to end on the lower slope of my stomach, not go up and over. We move from the hips, so fabric anchored at the hip tends to stay in place and drapes well. Unlike high waistbands, which swivel on skirts, and require skilled tailoring else acres of excess fabric on trousers. Made even worse if you have a small waist but generous hips/arse. Gesticulate wildly.

I am an active person. I want the full use of my legs, with maximum range of movement. Not to have them tethered together halfway down my thighs by a bleepity dropped crotch! Colourful expression of choice.

I want full weather protection for my legs, whether from hot sun, biting insects, and luxuriant vegetation; or from freezing cold and driving rain. The only reason I'd wear cropped trousers is to keep the hems out of snow in winter, when I'm also wearing head to toe merino base layers and knee high boots for warmth and waterproofing. Stomp, preferably in a muddy puddle.

Sometimes I think all the skilled professionals who could actually cut and tailor clothes to fit our bodies in motion vanished into a wormhole a decade ago, and beautiful tailoring flourishes on the far side of another galaxy. Wistful sigh.

@Alpacasoft , the Maeve is generous, take one size down from your high street size assuming your bust is average.

Stoic123 · 23/06/2023 10:43

@Stravaig and @Alpacasoft - also find Toast trousers problematic (although like the flat fronted denim jeans).

I bought 3 pairs of cords last winter. The 2 Seasalt pairs (at about 1/3 of the price of the Toast one) are loads more flattering so rarely wore the Toast ones. Having said that, I'm giving the cord culottes (that keep appearing in sales) a try (on the way) so definitely a matter of hope over experience.

dudsville · 23/06/2023 10:48

I've done an update on my total spent bit including these purchases yesterday (obviously only count what i keep), and by the end of this sale I'll have spent about a 3rd more than the whole of last yr, which was an amount I'd maintained for a while and was happy with. Uh oh.

But look at this!

@dudsville that looks lovely!

I love this dress so much. It is next on my purchase list. Would like not to pay full price though!

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 10:54

I would be a little worried it would be tight for me across the bust.

mizu · 23/06/2023 11:01

@dudsville my kind of dress Star

Stoic123 · 23/06/2023 11:06

@dudsville - that is gorgeous. I tried it on and loved it but colours didn't suit me enough (Test 1).

Ive got this dress but you look better in it than me. Its quite wide on me. Yours looks quite nipped in.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 11:30

I think that is why I don't wear it as much but I absolutely love the checks and the colour combo/material

ilovecherries · 23/06/2023 11:35

I got so overexcited yesterday I just realised I ordered two pairs of trousers in a size 4, so that’s annoying! (I have never been a size 4. Not even when I WAS 4). I’ve reordered them in a 12 today but just hoping refund is quick!

dudsville · 23/06/2023 11:41

@neveradullmoment99 , it only looks nipped in because of my pose. Getting the small means there only about 10 inches of added material to the waist.

Todays dress from my (significant!) Toast archive. It’s gotten a bit cold though so I’m now wearing it with a marigold cotton cardi from a couple of years ago.

Toast clothing is still incredibly well made compared to most of the high street but even in 5 years I do see a difference. That dress is fully lined, I haven’t seen a lined dress from them in a couple of years now.

Looks great on you. I remember that dress. I agree. Ive not had a lined dress for years from Toast.

@dudsville
It looks lovely! I have contemplated it a lot, because it looks quite a bit like one of my faves, the Echo dress from a couple of years ago

Just adding a little recommendation for the drawstring denim jumpsuit, which has made it into the sale. I bought it full price in March and have worn it loads - works well as a transitional piece and also in warmer weather with nothing underneath.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 12:35

I contemplated this but was unsure of size. Is it true to size?

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 12:36

I really would only consider it if I had returns.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 12:37

It is a gorgeous jumpsuit.

Stoic123 · 23/06/2023 12:38

Inspired by @Laska2Meryls - my latest eBay purchase has arrived (thank you for sizing advice).
