Found it! Not as colourful as I remember, add some hands thrown in the air in exasperation and a wee bit of stomping for full effect :)

On trousers, and why I hate the high waists, dropped crotches and cropped legs of the past 10 years.

I like waistbands to end on the lower slope of my stomach, not go up and over. We move from the hips, so fabric anchored at the hip tends to stay in place and drapes well. Unlike high waistbands, which swivel on skirts, and require skilled tailoring else acres of excess fabric on trousers. Made even worse if you have a small waist but generous hips/arse. Gesticulate wildly.

I am an active person. I want the full use of my legs, with maximum range of movement. Not to have them tethered together halfway down my thighs by a bleepity dropped crotch! Colourful expression of choice.

I want full weather protection for my legs, whether from hot sun, biting insects, and luxuriant vegetation; or from freezing cold and driving rain. The only reason I'd wear cropped trousers is to keep the hems out of snow in winter, when I'm also wearing head to toe merino base layers and knee high boots for warmth and waterproofing. Stomp, preferably in a muddy puddle.

Sometimes I think all the skilled professionals who could actually cut and tailor clothes to fit our bodies in motion vanished into a wormhole a decade ago, and beautiful tailoring flourishes on the far side of another galaxy. Wistful sigh.

I’m glad you got that off your chest 😀. I’d love the gabis if the rise was two inches shorter and the legs were two inches longer. I mean, what is the purpose of that chilly gap? If I’m wearing twill trousers, it’s because it’s cool.

That's a lovely dress Stoic123

@dudsville
It looks lovely! I have contemplated it a lot, because it looks quite a bit like one of my faves, the Echo dress from a couple of years ago

I also have that checked dress (how bloody embarrassing am I). Anyway, be aware it’s big. Mine is a 12 and is really too loose even for oversized.

Inspired by @Laska2Meryls - my latest eBay purchase has arrived (thank you for sizing advice).

This looks gorgeous on you. Love the print and the colour.

Stoic123 · 23/06/2023 13:09

@ilovecherries - great dress.

Stoic123 · 23/06/2023 13:10

Thanks @applecatchers36 @neveradullmoment99 x

Stravaig · 23/06/2023 13:18

@ilovecherries 🤣 I'm a whole new woman. Wearing very old trousers.

OftenOrange · 23/06/2023 13:31

What was I thinking?
I like clean lines and simple graphic prints , if any .
Carried away by the reviews who said it was wafty and cool .

@dudsville i love your linen dress, I tried it in store when it first came out and the fabric is just a joy. Thanks also for the stripy trouser feedback!

OH ordered the Camille blue stripe bed linen as a surprise which just arrived, it’s so beautiful (I bought the red stripe in the last sale, feels like the epitome of modern luxury to me).

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 13:45

So the cotton linen navy pinafore came and its a keeper. Also came today was the pond dress. I love it! It fits [ neatly] on the bust and is loose everywhere else. Only had a quick try on but I intend to wear it with something under it. The size up would have been huge.

I was tempted by this but for me, It's not a colour I wear. I love the style. Only wish it came in other colours [ or maybe not! Ive spent enough!]

Nanasueathome · 23/06/2023 14:01

I’m upset with Toast at the moment
I actually paid full price for 2 dresses before the sale
….because I ‘needed’ them
They’re both reduced now, one by £80 and the other £50…..ugh

AFingerofFudge · 23/06/2023 14:03

@Nanasueathome I'm pretty sure if you ring them they'll refund the difference, I have done it in the past.

AFingerofFudge · 23/06/2023 14:04

Ignore me, I didn't. I rang them after there were further reductions and they've refunded the difference between the two different reductions. Sorry to get your hopes up!!

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 14:17

So very annoying when you buy stuff and reduced. For me, I buy it and don't wear it for months and then it is reduced. It must be very annoying to have bought it pre-sale.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 14:18

Its a lot of money.

Nanasueathome · 23/06/2023 14:25

I’ve contacted them
im out of timescale for returns
I’ll just have to limit myself to sale only in future
i never learn
ive spent over £1000 with them since Christmas, mostly sale, other than those 2 dresses. I’ve always kept everything I have ordered, both online and bought in store
i think I’ve been really good to them but obviously not good enough
never mind

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 14:43

Have they got back to you to say you are out of the returns period?
I remember cherries on here returning stuff from out of the sale period and getting a refund.

That is mean of them.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 14:46

Did you use the chat function? I would email if you haven't.
They were a bit shit with me too. I am sure I did something similar and they didn't budge.

dudsville · 23/06/2023 14:55

@Stravaig , what a great critique, and I've learned something to boot!

@ilovecherries , another fabulous dress! I think you may need to show us your toast wardrobe so that we know what we're dealing with here though!😂

@OftenOrange , sometimes things I assume will be just right, aren't. And things I think I'll just try on a whim turn out to be wonderful keepers.

That's annoying @Nanasueathome . What was the time frame between your purchase and the sale?

Nanasueathome · 23/06/2023 14:56

I used the chat function
they apologised but I’m out of returns window
ive learned my lesson now

Could you try emailing them? They don't really have any power to do things on the chat function.
I would email and lay on the loyal customer thing.

neveradullmoment99 · 23/06/2023 15:04

They may still say no but you never know. You may get someone nice. If you are a kindred member you could also say that?
