Found it! Not as colourful as I remember, add some hands thrown in the air in exasperation and a wee bit of stomping for full effect :)
On trousers, and why I hate the high waists, dropped crotches and cropped legs of the past 10 years.
I like waistbands to end on the lower slope of my stomach, not go up and over. We move from the hips, so fabric anchored at the hip tends to stay in place and drapes well. Unlike high waistbands, which swivel on skirts, and require skilled tailoring else acres of excess fabric on trousers. Made even worse if you have a small waist but generous hips/arse. Gesticulate wildly.
I am an active person. I want the full use of my legs, with maximum range of movement. Not to have them tethered together halfway down my thighs by a bleepity dropped crotch! Colourful expression of choice.
I want full weather protection for my legs, whether from hot sun, biting insects, and luxuriant vegetation; or from freezing cold and driving rain. The only reason I'd wear cropped trousers is to keep the hems out of snow in winter, when I'm also wearing head to toe merino base layers and knee high boots for warmth and waterproofing. Stomp, preferably in a muddy puddle.
Sometimes I think all the skilled professionals who could actually cut and tailor clothes to fit our bodies in motion vanished into a wormhole a decade ago, and beautiful tailoring flourishes on the far side of another galaxy. Wistful sigh.
