Even though I said I was done with the sale, I keep coming back to the quilted needlecord jacket. Has anyone bought/tried it?

OftenOrange · 30/06/2023 11:24

@FiddleFigs Yes I bought that jacket in the pale beige colour but can’t help with info as I’m not going to get my hands on my several Toast sale parcels until next Wednesday .
I now know that a few things will be far too big and out of the return window, hoping that jacket won’t be one of them.
I wanted the pale colour because I have a large scarf and shawl collection which provide most of the colour in my wardrobe.

faustina · 30/06/2023 11:51

What a good result from your colour mixing @Laska2Meryls . I tried to dye a cashmere jumper once - from grey to dark green I think - and it ended up a sort of muddy grey with a green tinge, but have since used navy and black on t-shirts with much more success. I didn't mind the polyester thread staying white - it looks quite good!

@FiddleFigs - I tried the needlecord jacket in pebble and I think I would have kept it if it weren't for the fact that I was keeping the other two jackets and I actually only needed one. It was very warm, and quite short, and the big front pockets had very useful side entry as well as from the top. I did wonder how useful something that warm would be on a cold day when so short if you see what I mean

Dee1224 · 30/06/2023 12:07

@Laska2Meryls - your tee shirt looks lovely - I really like the shades of green of both items. I haven’t dyed anything since a few disastrous experiments when I was a student, (about the same time as I stopped ironing🤣).

All this evidence of wonderful results is making me want to give it a go. I think I will experiment with some cheap tee shirts first, though as I am not very good at this sort of thing!

ilovecherries · 30/06/2023 12:45

Anyone tried the Mariner trousers in both fabrics? I’m just wondering if the fit/size is identical? I have the denim in the 12 but I think they are just too big. Never wear a 10 in a fixed waist though.

@FiddleFigs I agree with Faustina, it is a nice jacket but quite boxy in fit. I couldn't see when I would wear it over other jackets.

@ilovecherries I tried them in hemp and they were also oversized I would say, it was the excess material at the crotch that didn't look right on me. Compared to other Toast fixed waist trousers I think they run bigger.

Just a thought could you move buttons to get the right fit? I loved the material of the hemp ones.

Popplebop · 30/06/2023 12:54

@FiddleFigs i have the padded cord jacket in pebble. Really very pleased with it. I would say it is slightly big rather than a neat fitting jacket and I dithered about going down a size but actually it fits me as it looks on the model. It is quite warm so I have put it away for the time being. My 18yr old said she would have it if I didn’t want it!

FiddleFigs · 30/06/2023 12:59

Thanks @MaroonedOnADesertIsland , @faustina , @OftenOrange - this is helpful feedback. I'm quite tall, so perhaps it will end up too short (I can see from the studio photos that the sleeves are a bit short for the model). It's sold out in my size in the green now anyway.

FiddleFigs · 30/06/2023 13:01

@Popplebop - interesting. May I ask what your usual size is and what size you bought?

Popplebop · 30/06/2023 13:18

@FiddleFigs i bought a 6 which is my usual(and old) size and wondered about a 4 once I had it on. (I am not a 4 😆.) However I am a shortarse at 5ft 3. I would wear the jacket on a chillier evening but it is no way a summer jacket. If I had the spare ££ I would also buy the green version as I can see it will be worn a lot. However I do love a good coat and have quite a few…

I briefly remember someone mentioning their garment dyed linen shirt (pink smoke/black coffee). I’d really like one but I’m wondering about sizing. Does anyone have advice?

Zeusrules · 30/06/2023 15:06

@PretLea I have just sent back a L in the pink garment dyed linen shirt as it was just a little too tight and so pulled over the button. I'm a 34G and have my fingers crossed the XL I've ordered fits as I love the colour.

MiracleToast · 30/06/2023 15:09

@PretLea i am a regular life 10 and bought the M in the black coffee and pink smoke. I wouldn’t have wanted to go any smaller. Usually I would maybe take a S. Hope that helps

PretLea · 30/06/2023 15:11

Thanks @MiracleToast and @Zeusrules I think I’ll opt for a S as I’m usually between a XS and S with the new sizing.

PretLea · 30/06/2023 15:33

Also not sure about length of those shirts. I’m only 5’4 and I find some Toast tunics are way too long. Same with trousers, but that’s another conversation all together…

I'm a 14 and got the large. It's roomy but I was concerned about gaping. Its a bit big on the shoulders for me ( I've narrow shoulders) but it doesn't have tight arm holes, which I was concerned about. Go for your actual size. 14 - large, 12 - medium, 10 - small etc. If you have no bust, you could size down.

PretLea · 30/06/2023 15:48

Thanks @neveradullmoment99 that’s useful. I have quite broad shoulders, and that’s usually how the new sizing XS is too small for me.

InterestingMuch · 30/06/2023 15:57

Hello Toasties, please could I join the thread and ask for some sizing advice? I have been putting the Alix trousers in and out of my basket or a few days. I hate ordering multiples in sales. I am usually a 14 in M&S - M or L? Thank you.

faustina · 30/06/2023 16:02

@InterestingMuch - which Alix trousers do you mean? Do they say they're new size ones, or are they in the sale?

InterestingMuch · 30/06/2023 16:07

@faustina sorry forget to say it is the sale ones - the birch green gingham - and they don't say they are the new sized ones. Thank you.

InterestingMuch · 30/06/2023 16:09

and I have just realised it is a 12 or 14! sorry, it has been a long week and they have been pinging in and out of the basket!

faustina · 30/06/2023 16:12

@InterestingMuch - I don't have that particular pair but I think they're supposed to be quite big. Are you sure you don't want to order two sizes just in case? If not, and you're usually a 14 I would get the 12s. fingers crossed for you!

InterestingMuch · 30/06/2023 16:18

@faustina thank you, yes, I think I will just order both. I always feel as though I am depriving someone of a pair but I really cannot make my mind up.

Laska2Meryls · 30/06/2023 16:18

I am a 14/16 on top 36e and wide shoulders . I bought the L in the garment dyed linen tunic .. I bought olive which has been oos but luckily one popped up unexpectedly. but have also tried on the pale yellow one and the sizing is the same..

The one thing I dont like compared to last year's version , is the front open flap from the base of the placket which I think makes it look just too .... Flappy ! . But I have just spent a happy hour stitching mine up just leaving a 4in opening at the hem to match the sides. Much better...

Last year's version have worn and washed brilliantly and still.look good .. I have them in the black and cream ..
