I LOVE a dipped hem!

Do I need to say *light-hearted? 🤣

"Proper" traditional stockings with suspenders. They have unwarranted sleaze connotations, but I find them practical and comfy and they were good enough for my grandmother.

Why are people bashing older people now?

Anyway. Personally I hate white trainers with dresses - is that still a thing on here?

Its not about what you dislike... its a thread about what you love regardless of criticism

Oh right in that case cargo pants

pangolina · 30/04/2023 22:57

Converse, leather jackets, band t shirts. I've been wearing them for 29 years and I don't plan to stop now!

RampantIvy · 30/04/2023 23:04

A lot of items listed on this thread aren't generally hated on mumsnet though.

tobee · 30/04/2023 23:57

Style & beauty has got a lot more bossy and sniffy of late. My only complaint used to be that it encouraged my profligate spending.

The thing about scarves, for me, is that Hermès are actually better quality than anything else. The silk has a weight to it which cheaper ones don't. The rolled, stitched edges don't fray. I got my first one in 1995, the edges are firmly in place. I've got beautiful scarves from other places, not cheap either but not Hermès, and the edges have unraveled.

Oh there's no doubt that the quality is beautiful, but most people can't afford that kind of money for a scarf. You can get some beautiful silk scarves for a small fraction of the price, I've never had a problem with frayed edges at all.

Oh I'm not sure @tobee, about ten years ago there were some real snotty posters on here who revelled in ridiculing other posters who asked for an opinion on something. I was given a right pasting when I asked for ideas for a dress for a wedding. My budget at the time was around £50 and I was told I couldn't possibly get anything nice for so little money. I didn't post on here for a couple of years after that!

It has got really noticeable over the last six months. There's a group of posters who love to claim their style is the only one that works with no discussion. That their taste is so exquisite and superior and should be looked up to. They take themselves way too seriously. It's MN not Vogue.

luckylavender · 01/05/2023 15:42

Dipped hem

Boot cut jeans

Midi tiered dresses with loafers

There's a couple who should end up in Private Eye's Pseuds Corner. Never read such a load of self-aggrandising old bollocks in my life Grin

😆 I find the self importantance and grandstanding a bit ridiculous.

Double denim( skinny jeans too!)

Riverlee · 02/05/2023 13:50

Bootcut trousers, especially high waisted

fat face, sea salt, etc

peasant dresses - puff sleeves, shirred or empire line body, midi/maxi length, ditsy floral

i’m pear shaped and feel recent fashions have really suited my shape, but mn seems to hate these fashions.

Cantonet · 02/05/2023 14:22

Cropped wide trousers on a 5ft 3 person.
Or wide trousers in fluid fabrics.
Maxi skirts on above short person.
A deep v or scoop neck top, not an apology for a v neck.
Slouchy fluid linen/lyocell t shirts, not the thick cotton that everyone wants on here.

RampantIvy · 02/05/2023 17:19

A deep v or scoop neck top

I hate those because I have no boobs Sad

LumpySpaceGoddess · 02/05/2023 17:26

Cardigans and mom jeans, they suit my bottom heavy figure and I’m always cold so never go anywhere without an oversized cardigan, I know they aren’t super flattering but they are so cosy!
I basically dress like Kurt Cobain 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Same! :(

I have average boobs but very square swimmers shoulders 😳. A deep neck makes a big difference.

evtheria · 02/05/2023 17:32

The sport socks over leggings look - it just FEELS better, more safe/comfortable...?
Plus, I have bony ankles and am utterly convinced the thicker socks around there balances out the whole shape of my legs.

I didn't realise this was a bad thing on MN!

VikingLady · 02/05/2023 21:43

I love deep V neck, and deep square necks! With a necklace that points into my cleavage.

I'm fat, there's no describing it as anything else, it's clearly not changing any time soon, and my boobs are the only good thing about it. So I'm highlighting them and ignoring the rest. (38GG)

I joined a fb group to learn how to sew around my boobs. I only make things with low necks.

LittleWhiteMoth · 06/05/2023 05:00

I love when the thread police, all one of her, arrives and takes over the thread. Grin
Since most of these threads are beneath her, we ought to be somewhat charitable and grateful regardless. I positively live in anticipation of someone starting a 'what to wear to the opera' thread, or even better, 'is anyone here avant garde?' Oh the hubris!

Cantonet · 06/05/2023 19:57

I'm totally befuddled.
Who are you talking about?
As far as I'm aware there's none of those sorts of posters on here.
Cos we're not cool enough and none of us have mentioned buying clothes costing hundreds of pounds. Just because the quality's so much better & its all the better to make me feel superior.
