@Fraaahnces My glittery lip balm is about to be dispatched finally!

Experiment627 · 20/04/2023 21:14

I have had a lovely time today discovering stuff I left behind to use again - as well as trying the little sample things I brought with me. Sort of makes up for nightmare journey over.

I only went to Aldi today... the lovely drugstore thing next door will come soon... plus other beauty shops. I mean I need to find some mouth guard cleaning tablets... it is not like I will buy any actual "beauty" products... 🤥

LOL @Fraaahnces I have threatened my mum with getting her on a hoarders TV show - she has SO much stuff. Not anything beauty related (although have spied a Ponds cold cream cleanser I palmed off on her last September) but she hoards paper/documents... I have this tendency too & really want to do something about it.

Murad exfoliating cleanser, perfectly decent but not a game changer.

Neal's Yard rose body oil. This isn't a patch on the REN rose otto oil. It doesn't smell as nice and isn't as lovely on the skin. Too expensive for what it is.

Cult51 neck and décolletage cream. I love this, the scent is gorgeous and it is effective. I have a different neck cream to use but will happily buy this. It lasted ages too, a little goes a long way.

I've just tried the shampoo in the liberty box, gorgeous!

I hide my hoard in a big fabric cube, I'm committed to going through it before I buy anything else. Sadly it doesn't actually stop me buying other things.... I need a good chuck out session of things I don't actually like, silly to just put them back in there.

@Experiment627 If you find anything that works for paper clutter please share it with us. Paper is my nemesis…

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 21/04/2023 07:42

I know we can get most things in the U.K. now but off to America in the summer (New York, Orlando, Miami and Charlestown) are there any products that you can still only het over there that are worth looking out for.
i have a list of food and drinks from the
ds but no idea regarding skincare and make up.

empties wise I have reluctantly used the last of my Elemis pro collagen cleansing balm. Really want to replace it but I have the drunk elephant one which does the job but doesn’t leave my skin feeling as nice as the Elemis one. For years I reassured it as saw it all over social media and thought they were only slinging praises as paid to but it’s actually good.

Experiment627 · 21/04/2023 11:08

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel likewise with the paper clutter nemesis! I am still trying to get into a routine/habit to keep on top of all the incoming paper... and I have years of crap to go through. I got rid of 3 sacks earlier this year but I have so much more to clear.

Just had a glorious wash, cut & blowdry... it really is the simple things.

@UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter sounds like an amazing trip! You lucky thing! I loved Ulta Beauty when we visited Chicago last year.

Binned a bottle of Wow dead sea salt facial wash because although I haven't had it that long and only recently opened it, it's growing something (looks like white mould 🤮 ) in the bottom of the bottle. I'm not sure whether to blame the preservatives in the product or the discount seller (are they selling expired items? There's no expiry date on the bottle) but this isn't the first product from this brand to have a similar problem. Last year I had an unopened bi-phase eye makeup remover spontaneously grow a large black ball of mould 🤮 in it in the space of a few days. It's put me off the brand. Unfortunately I've still got some more of their stuff hanging around, mainly makeup. Guess it'll all have to go to the top of my mental things-to-use-up list, with close inspection for all things furry first. I haven't been on this thread long but I've been using up my toiletries for a while now and I'm down to 50%. My bathroom is looking a lot tidier. Makeup is another matter though, it takes so long to get through it

Fraaahnces · 21/04/2023 15:53

@Experiment627 I threatened my mum with sending round a mate who was “a very talented arsonist. He’ll sort you out…” She declined my offer to help sort out the piles of newspapers, etc in the shed (collecting rodents and snakes) and coincidentally made the choice to pay someone to get rid.

Experiment627 · 21/04/2023 17:09

I hear your pain with make-up @IndianSummer78 😫 the only thing I can suggest is shopping your stash and only use one item of each category until it is used up... but life is short and variety is the spice we all need...

@Fraaahnces snakes 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
My mum is keeping documents relating to a charity she started... she is very attached

Fallen behind on the thread a bit but have some empties, will read back to catch up then!

Pantene Pro V Smooth and Sleek shampoo - Fine, but didn't like the conditioner much so won't RP.

Beauty Pie concealer - a staple for me, love it.

Baylis & Harding sweet mandarin and grapefruit hand and body lotion - FINALLY finished this gift set. I used this as body lotion to finish it quicker and because I have a million hand creams. The smell was alright, didn't find it moisturising enough though. Won't RP.

Dr Barbara Sturm hyaluronic serum - wasnt wowed, wouldnt RP (thankfully, given the price Grin). Handy sized bottle though, keeping it for weekends away.

Olverum body oil - Im not a body oil fan so used this in the bath.. it was lovely and I will buy the bath oil when I need more.

Garnier hair mask - comes with my box dye so a staple for me. My hair likes it.

Beauty Pie uber youth sheet mask - I wasn't too keen on the smell which spoilt it for me. Otherwise was nice enough but I prefer others so wouldn't RP.

Cien sakura & hyaluronic acid tissue mask - liked the smell, skin felt soft.. cheap and pleasant to use so would RP.

50/104

2 empties, both HG products to me which I have already repurchased,

Rosalique miracle formula

La Roche Posay waterproof eye make up remover. It's a biphasic one which I always find better. Always welcome suggestions of other ones to try for waterproof mascara and sensitive skin. I had the Dior one which was good but a bit too pricey for an everyday skincare brand.

3 empties.

K18 hair mask. Too small to know whether it was any good. It came in the CB advent calendar.

Revolution blur and prime. I really liked this. Did a good job of blurring. And cheap.

No 7 day cream. I like this one and use it on and off.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/04/2023 16:19

I've finished the Boots No 7 anti aging cleanser, it lasted absolutely ages. I think its ok but not as good as my fav vit C one.

IndianSummer78 · 23/04/2023 22:51

The conditioner I used to like before they changed the formula and put silicone in it. I've got another one to use up unfortunately. It's Garnier Ultimate Blends (With Argan Oil).

The mousse is good especially for winter humidity making hair frizz. It's Wella Shockwaves (Curls And Waves).

Hello everyone, still having to post via my laptop so I apologise for the lack of photo. Hope things are going ok Shelties. It's tough being part of the sandwich generation.
I love the Elemis cleansing Balm too and I'm eaking out the 1 I've got. The Emma Hardie cleansing balm is a good substitute though.
I totally get the hoarding thing and it's one of the reasons I joined this thread originally. I had a health scare in January and it made me realise that life's too short to be keeping things I know I won't use again. I go through phases of having a general clearout in order to spare my children the pain of having to sort through too much after my death. My dad was a hoarder and after he died Mum and I were sorting through his shed and workshop and at one point she looked at me and said, "It's a good job he's already dead, because I could kill him now!" 😂

Anyway, my list of empties:
Pixi Rose Tonic: Only half used because I don't like it so is going.
Estee Lauder Doublewear Sheer Matte sample bottle: Only half used but sits in my wrinkles. Not the effect I'm looking for!
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair sample Bottle: Love this product but I'm also liking the Clarins serum I'm currently using.
Crabtree and Evelyn mini shampoos X2: hotel minis from one of my son's work trips. nice smell of lavender and verbena.
Handmade in the Peak District Oatmeal and Vanilla Soap bar: Lovely creamy lather and smells comforting.
Sundari Body Lotion: Another hotel offering from my son. Smells herby and sinks in well.
Rituals Hydrate 24hr gel cream: this was a free sample and I'll definitely get this when I'm next near a Rituals as it didn't irritate my skin.

Fraaahnces · 24/04/2023 12:07

@latedecember1963 - my DH’s dad is a hoarder and he has a life-limiting illness. He lives on several acres of land with four commercial sheds completely filled with all kinds of shit, which attracts rodents, spiders and snakes. He has four or five dead washing machines that nobody’s allowed to remove, cluttering up the drive. His wife hoards bromeliads which attract water and breed mosquitoes. She has thousands and THOUSANDS of them. Don’t ask me about the house… appliance graveyard is definitely a description. I wont go unless I need to.

MavisMcMinty · 24/04/2023 12:22

When Covid-19 hit, during the first lockdown I was so sure I’d die if I caught the virus that I determined to spend my remaining weeks/months of life wearing all my loveliest clothes and putting on a full face of make-up and painted nails every day, even though nobody could see it. Lasted for months, but you know, when you put make-up on you have to take it off again and it all got to be a bit of a pointless chore.

PomRuns · 24/04/2023 22:45

I’m an anti hoarder due to living in a quite cluttered house as a child.

The covid lockdown feels quite surreal now - 2 of my colleagues died in the early days pre vaccine (nhs). I don’t think we ever processed it.

But yes, let’s not leave things for best.

IndianSummer78 · 24/04/2023 22:46

One empty Original Source Shower Gel. This is a regular purchase for me

Fraaahnces · 25/04/2023 04:18

I’m about to do a Swedish Death Cleanse. We have three dead relative’s clutter here (and one I pretend is dead - long story) and I’m over it. (Not to mention my own skincare!

Experiment627 · 25/04/2023 07:40

@Fraaahnces that sounds really intense. I am grateful that my mum's clutter (and mine) is not so extreme. I have 4 mosquito bites at the mo and they all started zanging when I ready your post 😵‍💫

I get what you are saying @MavisMcMinty - I am just coming out of almost two months of wearing a full face every day. It is quite a novelty not to have so much to clean off my face each evening, although I try to stay strong to my skincare routine as otherwise my face goes to pot.

OP posts:
Fraaahnces · 25/04/2023 08:57

Let’s just say that my DH has inherited his DF’s “it might come in handy” gene. I’m over it.
