During the first lockdown I did a full face every day, thinking if I was gonna die I should use up some of my massive stash of make-up. I also wore all my loveliest clothes! Did that for about three months, but as you say, if you put it on you have to take it off again.
Die young, stay pretty - as the Blondie song goes.

I didn’t realise yiu had cystic acne @CinnamonCoffee. My eldest DD used to have issues with mild cystic acne around her chin area, but she was lucky and it responded almost immediately when she started contraceptive pill treatment. The snail mucin definitely helped with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and has kept that bay by keeping her skin hydrated but not oily.
Cystic acne is so hard to treat because generally the issue isn’t necessarily caused by what you put on because it comes from so deep within the skin. It doesn’t always respond to changes in diet or skincare and it’s painful and psychologically debilitating. Doctors are often dismissive about how much this affects your daily life.
I think snail mucin will be good in the long run for PIH and hydration. For cystic acne, I think you need a medical approach. (Sorry if I’m preaching to the choir.) That will depend on where in a woman’s life she is… Tretinoin is not advisable if you are planning on pregnancy or breastfeeding. (No Retin A or Roaccutane.) If you are out of that zone, I would start there. It works. Roaccutane has side effects, but it’s permanent and the scarring can be avoided. The snail mucin can be used as an adjunct to help soothe and heal in the meantime.

I think if you get onto it early @CinnamonCoffee you avoid more scarring. Must be so hard for you. My son is having issues too. Just coming into “that age”. I will get him to a dermatologist asap, but he needs disgusting toenails sorted first. (Roaccutane/Isotretinoin will affect the scarring process.)

And just like a smoker trying to get her friends to join her outside for a fag when they’ve given up, here’s the link:

Oh dear, I finally succumbed to Abigail James’ Glow Edit for LiB, because they promised me a “free box worth over £100” if I bought it. I’d been tempted anyway but had so far resisted because my skincare habit is really starting to worry me.
I am very tempted by this too. I only didn't buy it because my birthday was looming and my DH did in fact buy me some goodies. Having looked at it again, I will resist, but now I am on this thread and will no doubt see other temptations!

Been absent for a bit due to no internet (thank you Virgin!) and bit of a faff on the phone…so a few empties to report
M&S Mediate body wash - not impressed, thin watery and non foaming
Mitchum stick deodorant - a staple and the only thing that seems to stop me being wiffy since I knocked on a bit - thank you peri menopause…
Cult51 day cream - love this and this must be about my 3rd jar after discovering in the F&M AC in Dec 21. Would love to find a cheaper alternative though as it’s pricey
Aveda thickening tonic - another staple and I have already RP, works really well on my fine hair
Nuxe face and body cleansing gel with honey - was ok, not brilliant, found the honey aroma quite overpowering and prefer the usual Nuxe fragrance
Floral Street London Poppy - not really counting samples but as I have a little set of these I’ll report in…not a fan - very floral (obviously) and a bit cheapy smelling to me so used as air freshener
so 16/100 so far, not bad.
thanks to @Experiment627 for the new thread and keeping us all going

I finally gave in to the insane social media advertising and bought il makiage.
I do not recommend it at all. I ordered the most dewy one, it was almost matte. Very cakey and became patchy during the day. The colour was too yellow for me.
I don't know why but I am disappointed. Hopefully it's an easy process to return it.

@MavisMcMinty I was really tempted by that deal but I'm trying really hard not to buy until I deplete my stash.. argh!
Recent empties..
Garnier moisture bomb sheet mask - Nice, thought my skin was a bit glowy and plump after using. Would buy.
Rainbow bath bomb - got a couple of these as a gift. It was quite cool but I wouldn't buy as prefer bubble bath or oil.
Somerset Toiletry Co. cranberry bath caviar - another gift. this smelt surprisingly nice when I opened it, but was non-existent after 30 seconds of being added to my bath. Wouldn't buy.
Coach perfume sample - nice enough, would happily use again but wouldn't buy it.

My last purchases -> CeraVe skin care , the ordinary skincare .. Cleopatra's Natural teeth whitening

MidnightMeltdown · 14/03/2023 23:10
I've not purchased any of the beauty boxes...yet, but I did spend £100 on makeup in John Lewis . I got a concealer and a couple of foundations to try (including the Hourglass one).
John Lewis have 15% off at the moment so I decided to take advantage of that instead of waiting for a GWP and accumulating more products that I don't need!
I never used to see the point in foundation, but now I that I'm the wrong side of 35, I've suddenly decided that I could do with some!
MidnightMeltdown · 15/03/2023 00:02
Here are my latest empties:
18) Sunday Riley CEO Cream - this was pretty thick and sticky. Not the sort of cream that I would normally choose, but it was actually quite nice to use during the colder months, and it didn't break me out. Definitely a winter cream though, I wouldn't like to use it in the summer.
19) Elemis Cleansing Balm - lovely, but too pricey for a product that you wash down the sink. I happily use it when I get it in boxes, but I wouldn't go out and buy it as an individual item
20) Dr Jart Eye Cream - again, this was thicker than I would normally like for an eye cream, but quite nice to use during the winter months. It was surprisingly light for a thick cream and absorbed really well.
21) Hourglass Concealer - this is my HG concealer that I mentioned earlier.
22) Paula's Choice Exfoliate - Really like this. It definitely helped stop my premenstrual breakouts. Would rp.

@SkyandSurf I very nearly fell for the Il Maquillage phenomena too. A friend set me straight thank goodness. Her face looked like a “wizened Apple core” (her words) after it had been on for half an hour. She has had better luck with L’Oreal.
I swear by luminous silk for a splurge foundation, and I think Maybeline do some good ones at a lower price point.
Bare Minerals is also good, but I prefer luminous silk above anything else I've tried.
I don't know what's wrong with me, I keep buying new foundations searching for some holy grail. Clearly the algorithm knew I was a sucker and that's why I received a million Il Makiage a day. Hard pass.
