John Lewis being in financial trouble probably means they are no longer offering loss leaders to entice future customers.

It's a shame because the Liberty Advent calendar and Beauty drop boxes always get me buying products I wouldn't have previously considered

RoyalDeathCult · 04/04/2023 19:40

I was hoping to get another car air freshener on the site; I know they were like marmite but I really liked it.
I've compensated for my disappointment by using some of my credit on a Chantecaille blusher - I hope it's as good as the lipstick.

FredaFox · 04/04/2023 20:51

My look fantastic easter egg cane today, pretty happy with it, pays £49.80 via TikTok, the Elemis alone is £44 so not a bad deal.
also bought a glossy box set off TikTok for £18, decent enough price for what I got

Where did you use it? I liked the smell and when it was stored in the box I enjoyed a whiff of it. But when I took it out and hung it in a large room it was so strong gave me a headache.

I cut a hole in the plastic and put it back into the paper envelope so it wasn’t too strong in the car. After about a month I took the rest of the plastic and paper envelope off.

I am feeling the absence of the John Lewis boxes too. I am sure they did their online beauty events last March where the ticket price got you a free box. They also have a couple of nice GWPs a year but haven’t seen anything from them since Autumn.

I got the new John Lewis Glow Getter box last week. I'm not sure if it's still in stock. Fantastic value with lovely perfume and makeup.

I loved the air freshener in the last box! Put it in my car and was really enjoying it then car went for a service and they threw it away! Actually may buy them again.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 05/04/2023 17:57

Today while walking to the local shop I passed a parked car with the famous air freshener dangling from its rear-view mirror.

I'm taking that to mean there's a fellow box subscriber living on our street. Of course now, out of sheer nosiness, I really want to know who it is.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 06/04/2023 10:28

I haven't found the air freshener to be that strong. It's in our downstairs loo which is absolutely tiny (and I do mean tiny, it's barely 1m x 0.7m!) and I can hardly smell it. I ended up with two so I wonder if the second one will be any stronger?

MavisMcMinty · 06/04/2023 11:20

I don’t know about the car air freshener as I’ve only just joined the Liberty Beauty Drop (so excited for my first box this month!), but have been using Yankee Candle ones that you dangle from the mirror, and it’s the swaying around from the movement of the car that releases the fragrance - maybe that’s the problem with yours in the larder, @SwordBilledHummingbird ?

Bimblesalong · 06/04/2023 11:24

They did this spend £125 (?) and get a big box of products incentive which ran every few months for about a year. Had a few great boxes. They also did this online beauty promotion and you got a box of products for booking onto that. They were really good boxes - miss the promotions!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 06/04/2023 11:38

@MavisMcMinty Maybe that's it then? It would never have occurred to me that's how they work 😂

HaroldTheStallion · 11/04/2023 12:24

I'm a bit annoyed with what Liberty has just done. I ordered two pairs of earrings for £105 total and used my credit for part payment which was £60. They've now said one pair of the earrings is out of stock so they've refunded me the price of them (£55) to my gift card balance. I think they should have refunded my cash first and the balance on the gift card. Obviously if I'd known some of the earrings were out of stock I'd just have ordered the pair that cost £50 and paid with my gift card balance! Do you think it's worth ringing them about this?

SwordBilledHummingbird · 11/04/2023 13:09

I would, I'd be really annoyed if they did that to me.

SweetSakura · 11/04/2023 13:31

Agreed, yes I think they should have checked and not assumed!

redredwineub40 · 11/04/2023 13:32

I’d ring too, I’d expect they can sort it. V irritating

HaroldTheStallion · 11/04/2023 16:13

So I called them and basically (once I managed to get through to someone) they told me "tough luck." They're not going to sort it. So now I'm stuck and I'm really quite in shock as to the terrible customer service from this so-called luxury shop!

TreesinthePark · 11/04/2023 16:45

I would email and call it a formal complaint or something. My guess is that you spoke to someone who doesn't actually know how to switch the refund from BD credit to cash so they fobbed you off.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 11/04/2023 16:59

I agree, I'd call back. I don't think what they told you is correct.

HundredMilesAnHour · 11/04/2023 17:23

Sounds like they've followed their T&C as stated on their website:

If you return all or part of an order or purchase, or if we have been unable to fulfil part of your order, that was purchased in whole or in part with a Voucher, your refund will be in the form of a gift card (up to a maximum of the value of your Voucher), with any balance of your refund returned to your original payment method (except where you paid by cash, which will also be refunded in the form of a gift card). Please note that the proportions of your refund that you receive as a gift card and to your original payment method may vary.

BakeOffRewatch · 11/04/2023 19:33

How annoying @HaroldTheStallion, though I think @HundredMilesAnHour is right about their T&Cs. I think it’s the case in quite a few places that use such a credit system. There was a big thread about it this year, about a lady who had used a gift voucher that someone had given her, and then some money buy multiples of homeware to decide at home which fit, and was really upset (and unable to afford it) when they refunded back to gift card only. Some of the posts mentioned fraud protection and money laundering means that it has to be standard practice.

If I were in your position I’d refund the earrings because it’s an online purchase and they have to refund!

Twinsandsome · 12/04/2023 15:19

Really looking forward to this months box. What do we all hope will be in it? X

MavisMcMinty · 12/04/2023 15:27

I’m all out of bubble bath, so hoping for that.

HaroldTheStallion · 12/04/2023 15:53

Thanks all, I tried again and their customer services agent told me he had escalated the case to their finance team but that they said it's an automated process and there's nothing they can do. I find the whole thing pretty ridiculous as they never should have sold me an out of stock item to begin with. Completely their fault from start to finish and they're refusing to fix it. After this month's beauty drop I'm cancelling as it's left a bad taste in my mouth.
