Yes I agree! Maybe that’s why I find it so fresh, and refreshing!

paradyning · 25/02/2023 21:47

Are her boots not the brown ones she wore where she was enabled. Maybe in first engagement in Anglesey/Wales?

paradyning · 25/02/2023 21:47

*engaged not enabled

gluenotsoup · 25/02/2023 21:54

I agree about the shorter length.

justasking111 · 25/02/2023 22:09

Glad Kate took gloves it was very cold here today 🥶🥶

SenecaFallsRedux · 25/02/2023 22:59

@TangledWebOfDeception I have been following those discussions, and I am seriously considering leaving for the same reasons that you have stated. I am waiting to see if MNHQ takes further action in response to these concerns.

Anyway, if I do leave, I do want this little community of posters to know how much pleasure and company these threads have given me. I'll be thinking about y'all especially leading up to the coronation.

Saw this on Site Stuff...

JustineMumsnet
Hi again... Wow so this took off overnight! It's pretty clear from the strength of feeling and reaction to my post that this isn't so much about the actual affects of moving the Sex topic into Active, or the fact that individually you can avoid seeing it by hiding it, it's as much about tone and feel of the site. As such it seems to me there's no point us waiting for the data and so we'll remove Sex from active shortly.
One of the issues that we've got is that Active is very much the home page of Mumsnet for many - and as ComeTheFckOnBridget says lots of other sites do this differently.
When we launched follow topics last month, many users asked for a way to see a feed of the latest threads from the topics they're following - we're working on that feature at the moment and it will be ready to launch soon and I think over time it could be that Active then evolves to become more of an index and less of a landing page. But we'll see how the introduction of feed goes and what the take up is like before thinking about any further changes.
One thing that's been useful about this discussion is that it's made it clear we should formalise our guidelines on how we moderate the Sex board. As we've said, we have not, over the years, had any particular issues with this board (wrt to pervs, sex pests etc) but I agree we could communicate some clearer boundaries with regard to safeguarding and expected behaviour, so thanks to all who've mentioned that - we'll get on to asap.
Something I want to put on record is that this decision to move Sex threads into Active conversations had absolutely zilch to do with the Smilemakers partnership. There was no pressure put on us to make this move and at no point in any thinking about this did Smilemakers come up. Over the years we've literally turned down millions of pounds from brands because we've categorically refused to engage in disingenuous marketing and/or take money from those brands which don't make parents' lives easier - I think we've shown that we're pretty good at resisting commercial pressure.
Thanks as ever for the feedback and good weekends to all.

@TangledWebOfDeception I hope this encourages you to stay. Flowers

Thank you for that, @pussycatinfluffyslippers .

Ok, look at this other Spencer tiara
It is mine
Fascinating story of that Spencer wedding, that is one well connected family. No wonder they encouraged their daughters to get to know royals....

@pussycatinfluffyslippers thank you for posting that. Unfortunately that’s the comment I was replying to in the comment I re-posted here.

It’s too little too late for me. I think it’s absolutely appalling that users have had to point out such basic issues to the CEO and leadership of a women-centred company like this, dealing in advice for parenting and relationships. She personally makes £25,000 per month from this site, and the company definitely has plenty of money to pay for actual expertise on extremely important things like safeguarding in relation to sex/hook up chat threads and potential illegality on the sex topic relating to hosting material of a certain nature. It’s ludicrous. I’m angry that we have to scream and shout to get anyone to consider these things and I’m sick of doing that. They only capitulated when people started cancelling premium and saying we were leaving. Really not good enough.

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 09:19

At the very least they need to close down that hook up thread, which is NOT in the spirit of Mumsnet on any level unless their mission statement has drastically changed - ‘we help married men/women find sex chat and hook-ups with random strangers’ isn’t in there, I don’t think. Re-instate the 90 day registration period to be able to post in the sex topic (to discourage pervs and trolls from posting there) ‘we happily host weirdos and creeps’ isn’t in there either as far as I can tell. And finally, hire a specifically trained team to robustly moderate the sex topic to keep it from straying into really dangerous territory, legally and morally.

I’m still really angry that they thought having a bunch of threads in Active clearly started by men on things like rimming and flesh lights and god knows what else was an appropriate direction for this site. Never mind the ads for sex toys everywhere. This is a parenting site! We know how to have sex, we know our bodies and what we want (or don’t want) after childbirth, and we also often have children/teenagers hanging around whilst browsing, or read Mumsnet at work! I’m really angry that it took a great deal of shouting over an extended period of time for them to actually listen to their users on this. FGS do better.

Anyway, sorry. I’m full of my subject so it spills out every time.

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 09:26

(But thank you @pussycatinfluffyslippers for thinking of me and posting it. I do appreciate it. I’m very disheartened by this most recent episode tbh - it’s not right that we should have to fight and argue so vehemently against this in order for them to take it seriously. Thank you also @SenecaFallsRedux for your comment. If I end up elsewhere I will start a little mini royal S&B discussion in honour of this one, so maybe I’ll see one or two of you there.)

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 09:43

Oh @Maireas I love that tiara. 😍😍 I’ll read it later, sounds interesting. DH and I are watching luxury travel/holiday vlogs on YouTube right now (our Saturday morning ritual and much cheaper than actually travelling 😁).

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 09:50

Sorry meant Sunday morning! I was so angry yesterday I lost a day! 😆😆

StartupRepair · 26/02/2023 10:20

@TangledWebOfDeception I had blithely ignored this whole fiasco. Good for you for standing up to it. Fred and Mary have posted the obligatory iconic Taj Mahal photo.

Tangled if you do set up a new thread somewhere would you be so kind as to share the link. PM if you don’t want to post publicly.

The photo looks slightly awkward to me but that might be because they're both staring directly into the sun. Fred's choice of footwear is interesting but I guess he's after comfort!

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 11:12

KillingMeDeftly · 25/02/2023 12:17

I agree totally @TangledWebOfDeception, it's actually quite staggering how MNHQ is responding to some very valid concerns.

Sorry @KillingMeDeftly i think I missed this somehow (unless I’ve forgotten having replied). Thank you for lending support.

To those who asked, yes I will PM once I know what’s up.

Back to fashion! I really like Mary’s outfit, it’s relaxed but smart. Like the colours/pattern in the skirt. Like the length. The belt is nice too. I think Fred gets away with the shoes as they do at least half go with his outfit and I think you need comfort if you’re going to do any serious walking around the Taj Mahal. I can’t quite make out Mary’s footwear, probably scrappy sandals I guess?

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 11:12

*strappy

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 11:31

@StartupRepair thanks. Honestly it helps.

Apparently Fred and Mary visited Daisy in hospital before they left. I’m sure her feisty and determined nature will help immensely with getting back to full health and mobility, but she is elderly and I’m sure extensive op will have taken its toll.

Serenster · 26/02/2023 11:35

Mary’s wearing her gorgeous Etro skirt! Every time she pulls it out of her closet I am reminded anew of how much I cover it 😀 I like it when she leans into the inner boho girl that’s never gone away, despite a couple of decades of decorous royal dressing).

It will be sorry to see you go, Tangled, but more power to you for taking a stand on something that matters to you a great deal.

TangledWebOfDeception · 26/02/2023 11:39

(Sorry if I've missed anyone out - your comments are each much appreciated and I have read them all but can’t aways remember names attached to specific comments. I have executive function issues which means I easily miss things and reading back too much tends to make it worse so I’m damned if I do, damned if I don’t!)
