Dupe thread (saving money)

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 14:47

Hi all,

I'm sure months and months ago I saw a general dupe thread but it's seems to have gone(happy to stand corrected and delete this one if this is a double).Since I can't be the only one who's feeling the crunch financially though thought I would share some of my dupes I really rate

Foundation- double wear Estée Lauder (especially for those pale people with no colour to their skin - mine doesn't seem to have either pink or yellow tones)
Top contenders - rimmel 24hr stay (lots of colours available)
And primark foundation (one in square bottle) - (less colour range but if you have your match) it's literally better than the new EL one in my opinion.

Fashion - Skims dresses - (bare with me I have a teen in the house and she's obsessed with skims) but it's massively pricey - found on SHEIN exact shape of one of the black dresses with long arms
https://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appsharejump?lan=en&sharetype=goods&site=iosshgb&localcountry=gb&currency=GBP&id=11664972&urll_from=GM7344813307376230400
I'm told super comfortable.

Hair Oplex is amazing for damaged hair but again pricey. I found the revolution Plex range which again is a dupe in my opinion www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk/en/hair/styling-and-treatments/serums/revolution-haircare-plex-3-bond-restore-treatment-super-sized/1531603.html

Feel free to share any dupes you have found from any category and if this is a duplicate thread pls share the current one.

Hi, OP. We hope you don't mind but we've moved your thread to Style & Beauty now as we think it's a better fit there.

Weelegs29 · 05/02/2023 16:01

Oh I love a good dupe!

Superdrug Naturally Radiant hot cloth cleanser is a fantastic dupe for Liz Earle

Zara Red Temptation or Arianna Grande Cloud perfumes both fab dupes for Baccarat Rouge 540

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2023 16:40

DD likes the Revolution Drying Lotion , dupe for Mario Badescu (and half the price )

I didn't like the Revolution Plex but I didn't like Olaplex either , though the Revolution one made my scalp itchy .

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 16:56

@Weelegs29 ohhh love a good perfume dupe will have a look at those

@70isaLimitNotaTarget funnily enough I have a similar reaction to patent pro v and all related products which is annoying as it makes my hair super shine y but head literally on fire !

Thanks MNHQ 🥰

I love the Aldi Lacura Rose oil, and apparently it's a dupe for a Pixi one.

ReamsOfCheese · 05/02/2023 17:05

Lidl's Suddenly Madame Glamour is a perfect dupe of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfume. For £5. Saving you about £60.

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 17:17

@rookiemere I have heard this ! Is it any good ? Always good to get other's opinions before purchasing.

@ReamsOfCheese ahhh Brillant my sister loves this one !

If anyone likes snow fairy smell from lush - I have a wax melt things from Amazon that smells like this ! I realise though not all people love lush smells

rookiemere · 05/02/2023 17:28

@hourbyhour101 I've not used the more expensive one but the Aldi Rose Oil smells gorgeous and seems to make my skin a bit less dry, so for £3.99 I'd definitely recommend

I love the Aldi Lacura Rose oil, and apparently it's a dupe for a Pixi one.

They did one that was a dupe for Sisley that was good

JamSandle · 05/02/2023 17:36

Shein is just more fast fashion and Chinese made tat.

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 17:45

@JamSandle tbf there's another site similar to SHEIN called manomano and my friend got a bathroom mirror that demists itself, lights up and plays music via Bluetooth (and is a carbon copy of the one sold in bath store/wicks theirs £300 and Manomano £60.

Literally carbon copy and is three years in and going strong.

IMO (but I know I'm in a minority) Superdrug Radiant hot cloth is nothing like Liz Earle. Smells different and has different ingredients. It's in a green tube though 🤣

Missha Ampoule's main ingredients are the same as Estée Lauder ANR.

Boots own brand heel balm is the same as Flexitol.

Loads and loads of companies have a salicylic acid toner with 2% SA which is the same % as Paula's Choice but loads cheaper.

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 18:09

@PAFMO could you explain to the novice over here (me) what Salic acid does in laymens terms ?

I have a few cleansers with it but I literally have no idea and any explanation on Google sounds like waffle I don't trust 100%.

These are Brillant ladies keep them coming !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2023 18:26

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polih is different texture to Superdrug , IIRC the C&P is more clay like .

Aldi dupes always have me searching for what they are copying , sometimes the name s a give away but often the packagng is very similar .

They are often worth a punt , the Pink clay mask is good (dupe for Sand and Sky though I haven't tried the S&S one)

PAFMO · 05/02/2023 18:28

I'm no expert, but salicylic is good particularly for oily and blemish prone skin- it goes deeper into the skin to help reduce imperfections, while other acids like glycolic are more for mature and ageing skin as they don't go as deep and so resurface and exfoliate chemically (they've taken the role that those gritty scrubs you used to do) I use a glycolic toner a couple of times a week and my DD uses a salicylic cleanser.

(I heartily recommend Nadine Baggott's videos- on Insta and Youtube - she's very good at explaining what ingredients do in a simple way- I learn most stuff from her!)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/02/2023 18:28

Aldi does a dupe of Elizabeth Arden 8 hour and it’s identical. Use it for everything- hand cream, dry feet, lip balm, use round your hairline when colouring hair. I think it’s about 2.99 a tube but they don’t always have it.

KillingMeDeftly · 05/02/2023 18:36

Most Garnier sunscreens are dupes of LaRoche Posay for half the price because both are owned by L'Oreal.

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 18:45

@PAFMO thank you I asked the teen of the house and she gave me usual teen answer "omg your so old how do you not know this"

I for the record am 32 😒 but she's right I should know about this stuff thank you for the insta recommendation and the explanation.

Now where are my granny slippers and dressing gown... 😏

PatsysBeehive · 05/02/2023 21:25

Does anyone know of a good dupe for NARS Orgasm blush? I don't have an Aldi or Lidl nearby so would be an online order.

KillingMeDeftly · 05/02/2023 21:38

@PatsysBeehive There used to be one by Sleek but I can't remember the name of the shade.

KillingMeDeftly · 05/02/2023 21:39

Ah, got it - Rose Gold!!

DoubleShotEspresso · 05/02/2023 21:39

If anybody in here could kindly recommend dupes of the following I'd be forever in your debt:

-Freezyderm facial SPF 50+

-Laura Geller Balance & Brighten in porcelain

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/02/2023 21:59

KillingMeDeftly · 05/02/2023 21:39

Ah, got it - Rose Gold!!

It's very glitterey , I don;t know if the Nars one is but I had to buff the Sleek one a bit

hourbyhour101 · 05/02/2023 22:04

@DoubleShotEspresso I only know like the frezyderm is the avene very high protection cream spf50+ but I will be honest and say I'm not sure how close it will be ingredients wise- others may have better knowledge on this.

Also re your first one I want to say kiko cosmetics had one very similar and actually I really rate their stuff (but this was a year or so ago they had a similar colour to the one you mentioned) and may have discontinued - https://www.kikocosmetics.com/fr-fr/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt97-y7D_AIVEpXICh2aOwaBEAAYASAAEgKfKPDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Sorry brains but addled currently

Thanks so much I'll check both these out. Smile

The freezyderm is a very silicone type of texture which (for me) works brilliantly under make-up
