Dupe thread (saving money)

Hi all,

I'm sure months and months ago I saw a general dupe thread but it's seems to have gone(happy to stand corrected and delete this one if this is a double).Since I can't be the only one who's feeling the crunch financially though thought I would share some of my dupes I really rate

Foundation- double wear Estée Lauder (especially for those pale people with no colour to their skin - mine doesn't seem to have either pink or yellow tones)
Top contenders - rimmel 24hr stay (lots of colours available)
And primark foundation (one in square bottle) - (less colour range but if you have your match) it's literally better than the new EL one in my opinion.

Fashion - Skims dresses - (bare with me I have a teen in the house and she's obsessed with skims) but it's massively pricey - found on SHEIN exact shape of one of the black dresses with long arms
https://api-shein.shein.com/h5/sharejump/appsharejump?lan=en&sharetype=goods&site=iosshgb&localcountry=gb&currency=GBP&id=11664972&urll_from=GM7344813307376230400
I'm told super comfortable.

Hair Oplex is amazing for damaged hair but again pricey. I found the revolution Plex range which again is a dupe in my opinion www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk/en/hair/styling-and-treatments/serums/revolution-haircare-plex-3-bond-restore-treatment-super-sized/1531603.html

Feel free to share any dupes you have found from any category and if this is a duplicate thread pls share the current one.

Thanks for the Balance and Brighten links ladies. I'll certainly check those out. I've no idea how to tag individuals!
Fabulous thread op 👌

I prefer the Chanel bronzer to the Primark one. I find the Primark one too dark for me but I am quite fair skinned.

I’m mixed race so probably makes sense why I prefer primark one!

Boshi · 06/02/2023 14:15

Aldi do a great dupe for Emma Hardie Cleansing balm, I actually prefer it as it rinses cleaner and is a bit more gritty/cleansing

they also do a good dupe of Sisley Black rose cream, I am just waiting for a dupe of Elemis marine cream which is my HG, I will be all over that!

as an aside what is so good about Laura Geller balance and brighten? Is it a powder substitute for foundation?

At risk of exposing myself as an Aldi beauty dupe junkie - I forgot they did a dupe Elemis marine range last year - the Lacura Collagen pro range, I bought the serum and it smells incredible. I'm nearly at the end of the bottle so hoping they bring it back.

LadyEloise1 · 06/02/2023 15:18

@Noodlehen yes, the Primark one is darker and would suit your skin tone better than my Celtic skin.
Chanel now do more than one shade in their cream bronzer. The original suits me.

@hourbyhour101 I shop at shein alot and I can tell you for a fact none of the returns go to landfill, they get sent to their warehouses and then redistributed when someone orders that item in that size, that's why sometimes it takes ages to turn up as it's coming from china and sometimes it takes a day as it coming from one of their warehouses in uk and is someone elses return because it was too big/small, obviously things that are damaged I'd expect for them to be thrown and not resold ! Also@ChangedmynameagainforChristmas i have sent many items back to shein and never, ever had a problem with a return infact their returns are easier than anywhere else I have returned items, but I do use inpost for returns and usually am refunded next day, so that's really odd that it's taken so long for you to get a return,
Also alot of people on this thread have recommended primark but that also Is fast fashion, unfortunately majority of clothing items this day is fast fashion nearly everywhere you look, but it's just down to how much you want to pay for the exact same item! I have ordered items from shein that literally have labels in saying zara, forever 21, boohoo, nastygal, I saw it first, karen millen, they're merely just manufacturers, with essentially no middle man! Some people unfortunately can't seem to wrap their head around that and try and dictate and make you feel bad about where you shop, when no-one this day and age especially not women should be told where to shop, what to wear or not and where to spend their hard earned cash!

hourbyhour101 · 07/02/2023 20:21

@Puddinandpie thank you for this ❤️

I started this thread because I wanted to quite selfishly wanted if I could find some dupes and share ones I really rate and my teen rated.

I really don't want this thread to make anyone feel bad or start a MN war. We are all feeling the pinch although I realise I'm in fairly comfortable position I'm still finding it tough as I don't doubt others are

As I have said previously I'm just a mum who's trying to cut back (and as usual in the mum world) I'm looking at things I buy for myself to cut back on first.

Anyway anything you really rate pls do share and people can make their own choices ❤️

@Puddinandpie

This is quite strange because I ordered from SHEIN when I saw your pics on style and beauty so you sort of influenced me ! However, I am a pensioner and am stuck with almost £50 of badly made ill fitting rubbish I can't afford to lose and now can't do a thing with, and am about to give it to charity as every time I looked at the unsent parcel I feel very bad.

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 08/02/2023 11:48

@Puddinandpie

You say this "Some people unfortunately can't seem to wrap their head around that and try and dictate and make you feel bad about where you shop, when no-one this day and age especially not women should be told where to shop, what to wear or not and where to spend their hard earned cash!"

But we can complain when those people SHEIN treat a potential good customer like shit taking their money and sending absolute rubbish like the cheapest tat you have ever seen and then not allowing it to be returned, making me in particular feel bad We can have a voice too and we will say so.

Laura Gellor does a cream baked into a powder. Used to be made in Italy. Not sure if it still is . Still sold on QVC where I’ve watched too many presentations ☺️

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/02/2023 11:54

I’ve got the Bare Minerals powder MineralVeil. Not a foundation but gives a light coverage. I could never gets to grips with all the colour choices and Medium certainly didn’t suit me !

Jins · 08/02/2023 12:00

Revolution do a blurring balm and line filler that works (on me at least) like Trinny London miracle blur. It’s not a complete dupe as it doesn’t have the mattifying effect that Trinny’s does but it polyfillas those lines pretty well

Puddinandpie · 08/02/2023 12:00

@ChangedmynameagainforChristmas I'm so sorry you have had a bad experience, its seems like its your returns process that seems to be at fault here as i find it relatively easy, you generate a code, wrap the parcel back up then go to inpost locker and type in the QR code, ive literally never had a problem with this but i am quite thorough with the code and make sure all the numbers are in properly, unfortunately I've had worse returns from all different places it's just one of those things! The quality of the items I have bought have really never been an issue either, yes sometimes the size is off but no different to any other shop I've bought from! What gets me is that the minute you say shein I find so many posters on mumsnet immediately tell you "you mustn't shop there, it's forbidden" which really gets my goat as in my eyes it's being very dictatory!

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 08/02/2023 12:06

Fair enough. I had heard about the bad practices but I still ordered from them so they don't appear to be affected nor care about their bad press ! If they had accepted my return which I tried over and over to do I would probably have considered using them again but not now since I am £50 odd.. down

Puddinandpie · 08/02/2023 12:11

@ChangedmynameagainforChristmas when you say the date ran out also, did you try and post within the returns date or after, as you get 45 days to return which is quite a while! Also after it's gone in the locker you need to upload the tracking number and pic of tracking info(I always do, I think that's why my refund is issued so quickly)

Chez09 · 08/02/2023 12:15

I don't know if it's a dupe of anything but the physicians formula butter bronzer is the best I've tried!! It's such a gorgeous bronzer and £11.45 on justmylook.
Few other cheap products I love and regularly repurchase-
Revolution 5D lash pow mascara
Revolution miracle cream
OSMO intensive deep repair mask- justmylook and really reasonable.
I don't know if they are dupes but things I can't live without!

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 08/02/2023 12:25

@Puddinandpie

I tried within the 45 days. I tried and tried and tried and tried ! The returns machine would not play. I tried to do it manually and it still would not work. My daughter tried on her phone thinking it was my phone at fault. We are quite familiar with returns processes.. she gets things all the time from lots of different retailers and sends items back with no problems at all - so this is when I tried to contact them and they would not let me chat to anyone. They knew what it was about because the three items came up on the chat page. I tried everything - I could not find an address to write an email complaining. It was a firm communication block.

Talking dupes - please can anyone suggest a dupe for Benefit Dandelion?
I'm a porcelain skinned redhead and the colour is just perfect for me. Every other blush l've tried is either too bright, or too pigmented.
Powder if possible, but l'd be happy to give cream/liquid a try. Thanks! x

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/02/2023 13:08

Some here... www.allintheblush.com/benefit-dandelion-blush-dupes/

Or maybe Hourglass Champagne Rose ambient lighting blush?

Natural Collection blush in Cloud Pink or Pink Cloud, something like that. Costs £2.

Anyone love the Charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick - found a dupe of it colour : chauffeur revolution. I have just bought it and I have to say the colour is massively similar imo

And apparently the blusher from Poundland is amazing (several people have said this) as being really pale I have to be careful.

Also am I the only one who now has a dupe list in their phone for aldi/lidi shop ? 😂
