Haven’t you heard the powers that be have decreed we are no longer to wear floral midi dresses… this is what we get instead

Hang on! No floral midi dresses? Vest and pants for me for the Summer then. 😂

Maireas · 11/02/2023 09:07

We hear you, @Spudlet .
Fear not, @ChicoryDip , even John Lewis, from whence this edict came, are still stocking many, many such dresses.
Oh, and the ones that aren't floral are "botanical" prints....

I’m a big fan of Erdem (Even the mustard!) so it’s no biggie for me...but I think even most of you would gladly take an Erdem over one of those monstrosities!

Shame as I’ve liked a few Alessandra Rich dresses! Kate’s had at least two really good ones.

gluenotsoup · 11/02/2023 09:46

Those AR dresses are all awful beyond words… I don’t think anyone ever, anywhere would want to wear one, never mind look ok in it 🤯

Maireas · 11/02/2023 10:11

To be fair, I think the navy polka dot AR dress Kate wore was nice.

OP posts:
TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 10:14

Yes that is one of the ones I really liked. I think the yellow one with the big bow on the shoulder is also hers isn’t it. I thought that one was fantastic.

Spudlet · 11/02/2023 10:22

Ok, I’m willing to give a pass to the yellow one with the bow, and the spotty cream one she wore to the races. Most of them
are just too much though - too many collars and buttons and sleeves and and patterns and spots and flounces and belts. I’m all for a bit of detail, but not all at the same time. They just aren’t elegant, they take over too much and they don’t let the wearer shine because you’re just too busy looking at ALL THE THINGS on the dress - in fact, that’s exactly the issue I have with the majority of Erdem’s stuff too. Just calm the effity jeff down, channel a bit of Coco Chanel, and remove at least one of the details before you let those things out of the door.

[swishes hair and marches off while wearing head to toe M&S, lightly accessorised with Labrador hair] 😉

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 10:22

Heheh @Spudlet I know what you mean!

Yes, that's the same one Abigail Spencer wore to H&M's wedding.

LadyEloise1 · 11/02/2023 10:30

I'm with you @Spudlet
My style is a simple Cos like plain coloured dress - navy or black with a lovely but probably shiny as in jewelled chest length small pendant. I like a bit of understated bling.
I can't be doing with big flowery flouncy stuff. Pared back style is my thing.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 10:36

I like both, and I'm in exactly the same quandary with interior decor/design.

My preferred aesthetic is pared back, neutrals, no clutter, carefully curated (think Scandi/Japanese). But then I also have a very strong appreciation of the exuberant. It makes for rather an eclectic style.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 10:41

--If I gave any credence to Astrology I'd say I'm an absolutely stereotypical Gemini! Duality is a constant in every aspect of my life. But particularly evident in aesthetics.

Think we missed this outfit of POW’s this week in Derby. Zara blazer and vejas and a nice trouser length. Very girl next door but more polished.

Royal Style: keep the Erdem, but bring on the tiaras!
TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 13:11

Very nice. Casual but serious enough to be taken seriously, and suits her.

KillingMeDeftly · 11/02/2023 13:44

I prefer those trousers to the wide floor-skimmers she favours these days. I like wide-leg trousers but I think they look better worn with just a shirt/blouse and flat shoes rather than a blazer and heels, which is how Kate tends to wear them.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 13:45

Yes me too @KillingMeDeftly.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 13:49

These photos made me smile today; I do find KC's frugality with clothing/shoes very endearing.

Apparently Prince Philip regularly wore his wedding shoes over a period of 70+ years.

I agree. A great casual look for the POW.

ChicoryDip · 11/02/2023 15:27

That's a really great smart-casual look in Kate. Those trousers are a zillion times better than the trusty skinnies.

Eaumyword · 11/02/2023 15:32

Ooh thumbs up for POW looking smart but age appropriate and stylish 👍

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 11/02/2023 16:50

@TangledWebOfDeception Wow! I think the coat in the last pic is nearly as old as me (50) Grin
You'd think someone would have darned the sock before letting him out...

Maireas · 11/02/2023 16:59

The Princess Royal at the rugby this afternoon, looking good in a navy wool coat and Dodie Weir tartan scarf.
She honestly looked like she wanted to join in, so reluctant was she to hand over the ball!

Nothing from AR appeals to me... my heart sinks when I see POW wearing her dresses, the vast majority of them are hideous. I don't think I can ever forgive the yellow frock horror on the Caribbean tour 👀

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 17:09

Yes @Gooseysgirl that was the horror frock of the tour!

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/02/2023 17:16

@pussycatinfluffyslippers I thought it was cute. I expect he just didn't think about the fact that he was going to visit a Mosque and would have to take off his shoes!
