If money was no object what is the no.1. perfume you've ever tried?

OP posts:
OhFFS! · 29/12/2022 14:25

Eau Folle. Given by now discontinued.
Chanel Allure and now Acqua Di Parma Peonie

JaneJeffer · 29/12/2022 14:29

Hermes Kelly Caleche

icelollycraving · 29/12/2022 14:36

I always love Chanel Chance. I have lots of fragrance but is always my favourite.
I wish Dolce & Gabbana hadn’t discontinued By. It was very sexy, in leopard print bottle. The men’s was zebra. The ladies one reminds me of being in my 20s partying.
I loved the original Darby Rose by Chantecaille. I have a half used one which is now off but I can’t part with it.
Also loved Tiempe Passate by Antonia’s Flowers.

I have over 200 full bottles of perfume and collect vintage versions.
The perfumes that actually get finished and then replaced are:

Chanel 19
Miss Dior (original)
Anaïs Anaïs (original)
Eau d'Hadrien
Opium
Shalimar.

Vintages that I have small supplies of that won't be finished until I can source replacements:

Obsession
Dioressence
Fracas
Vent Vert
Dune
Ysatis

(Most of these are still available but formulations have changed so much in some cases (Obsession) that they are unrecognisable)

What would I buy this minute if money were no object?

The full bottle of vintage Dioressence I've been watching on eBay for years
A bottle of Tauer Lonestar Memories and L'Air du Desert Marocain
A bottle of Chanel 31 Rue Cambon and Coromandel.

@Cocolapew I've got an old tester bottle of Safari. It's fab. Makes me feel expensive and reminds me of walking through the perfume dept of Kendall's in Manchester in the early 90s and having a squirt.

For dupes I really rate most Perfume Parlour ones and find they last longer in some cases than the real thing. I don't think they are good at replicating Chanel or Guerlain though.

@PAFMO , did Anais Anais get reformulated?

Hope not!

@PAFMO , did Anais Anais get reformulated?

Hope not!

Yes, sadly, along with almost everything in existence before the 90s when the first ingredient regulations were brought in.

Anaïs Anaïs hasn't been reformulated totally (unlike others)just tweaked but you need Anaïs Anaïs l'originale on the bottle to be close to the original 1970s/80s stuff.

PurpleBurglarAlarm · 29/12/2022 16:53

I smell it from time to time on other people. No idea what it is but I have a really strong reaction to it. It’s gorgeous to me and I feel I remember it but I can’t for the life of me recall where from. I have a vague feeling it’s from when I was little. It’s not my mum though. Maybe a primary school teacher.

If I were braver I’d accost the wearer next time I smell it and find out what it is ☺️

I do absolutely love the tiny tester I have of You Or Someone Like You Etat Libre d'Orange and, were it not >£100 I would buy it and wear it all the time. It has daytime vibes and for some reason I feel real expense should be on the evening. Despite the fact I go nowhere in the evening

Allbeauty has 100ml for £72.95

Purplepeopleeaterz · 29/12/2022 17:21

One extreme to the other but current favourites are,

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille - it just doesn’t last long enough on me, won’t repurchase but will try a cheaper dupe

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau so fresh - reminds me of Parma violet sweets & lasts hours.

I still have a probably 2/3 full bottle of By that I only use on very special occasions. It was gorgeous, I wish they'd bring it back.

icelollycraving · 30/12/2022 10:09

I’m very jealous @evilharpy!

nettie434 · 30/12/2022 10:52

The Perfume Parlour, who do great dupes. I think I heard of it on here actually. I was then awaiting a Joy copy (called Delight), which I had purchased for £14 for 30ml (vs £60+) for the original.

Thanks for the tips @LoveMyPiano. There is a The Original Factory Shop quite near me too. I'd never heard of it before. I'm looking forward to a very fragrant 2023 (and hope everyone else has one too).

pocketvenuss · 30/12/2022 12:50

Bal d'afrique by Byredo. Premier Figuier by l'artisan perfumier. L'interdit by Givenchy.

I wish I liked Chanel as the bottles are very chic but I hate them all. They all seem to have some underlying consistent note that makes me feel slightly nauseous. I can't figure out what it is but I really dislike it.

Carlycat · 30/12/2022 20:38

OatFox · 28/12/2022 23:37

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille for the autumn winter months. Gorgeous but out of my reach for now so I unashamedly buy the dupes and they smell similar.

What are the dupes for this gorgeous smell?!

Carlycat · 30/12/2022 20:44

Fou D'elle. Another exquisite one by Ted Lapisdus.

Chaos- Donna Karan

Both discontinued. I use my stash sparingly!

Carlycat · 30/12/2022 20:47

evilharpy · 29/12/2022 06:47

The sadly discontinued Nina Ricci Delices d'Epices. It was cheap but no perfume I've ever owned or tried has come close. If money was no object I'd give my last remaining bottle to a perfumier and get them to replicate it.

For the Cosmetics To Go fans, here's a catalogue for nostalgia purposes.

Omg! I loved Cosmetic to go! I still dream of their Champagne bath bombs ❤️

My son bought me ysatis for Christmas. I hadn't tried it for years. It's lovely

This is gorgeous. Didn't realise it was still around!

maltesersarethedevil · 30/12/2022 20:50

Pacco rabanne XS pour Elle. Not the shite it is these days but when it was in a yellow/silver box in 90s

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/12/2022 20:51

Generally not keen on perfume, most smell of alcohol. I like Shalimar though.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 30/12/2022 20:52

Swinewitch · 29/12/2022 00:50

My favourite perfume - and the one I get most comments on - is Chloe Nomade. Not hideously expensive and it smells gorgeous.

Nomade is my absolute favourite- it just smells divine. The last bottle I bought didn’t seem to have the same hypnotic quality though, I thought they might have changed the formula! I’ll have to go and try it again.

AnyFucker · 30/12/2022 20:58

If I am feeling flush… Hermes, Eau de Merveilles

For daily/work use… I switch between Next and Zara scents. Currently I like Next Velvet Rose. It has a real Chanel vibe.

RulaCabula · 30/12/2022 21:02

Back in the very early 90s Gap used to sell perfumes, there was one called Dream which is probably my all time favourite, obviously long discontinued.

Also Deci Dela by Nina Ricci, discontinued many moons ago.

And the original Dune from the 1990s, not the reformulated scent which I don't like. I also used to love Gio by Armani.

orangetriangle · 30/12/2022 21:03

La belle est Vie is lovely as is Jean Paul Gautier

CoorieIn · 30/12/2022 21:04

I love Ghost Midnight and Gucci Rush.

CoorieIn · 30/12/2022 21:05

Oh an also Ana Sui Dreams

custardbear · 30/12/2022 21:23

I have my 3 favourites

  1. Mademoiselle coco
  2. Prada amber
  3. Chanel No 5

Not cheap but gorgeous!
