If money was no object what is the no.1. perfume you've ever tried?

OP posts:
RumblePhish · 29/12/2022 09:28

I love a rose scent!

KylieCharlene · 29/12/2022 09:32

Monsoon (wild lagoon) was amazing. It would be my no.1. Always.
Dior Dune is also a favorite of mine.
Currently wearing Molecule 01. I wore it last year and absolutely adored it however I've just opened a new bottle and I'm not feeling the love.

Pelo22 · 29/12/2022 09:38

AG cloud. I actually prefer it to baccarat!

It's a weird scent, I wear it and forget about it. Then every so often I get a whiff and think "what's that gorgeous scent?!" And then remember it's cloud. Every single time I wear it Confused

Woahhohoho · 29/12/2022 09:44

@DuncanBiscuits

Hold on it might be!! I've found the aftershave and the unisex one which are nice but not quite right. I might have to save for a while and take a trip to London. Thanks!

saveforthat · 29/12/2022 09:49

My son bought me ysatis for Christmas. I hadn't tried it for years. It's lovely

DuncanBiscuits · 29/12/2022 10:03

No problem! I want to smell it now…

beguilingeyes · 29/12/2022 10:48

I like the original Salvador Dali perfume. Clinique aromatics Elixir is a constant.
There used to be a shampoo called Elseve Balsam that smelt so wonderful I'd wear it all the time as a perfume if I could.

I had completely forgotten Roma. It was lovely and very like YSL Paris. Now I wish I had either. They were both quite light and sweet but not too cloying.

I am planning to buy Miss Dior original, which I have not worn for years. I got a Shay & Blue Black Tulip spray in my M&S Advent Calendar (a present from a friend) which I thought was really nice. My money no object buy would be to have matching perfume and body lotion.

Did anyone listen to Sliced Bread on Radio 4 in which Greg Foot investigated clone perfumes?

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001fwfc

He concluded that some were very good but that the fragrance lasted less than the premium brands.

I heard the radio programme, but wasn't listening intently (even the second time, when it was repeated and I was in my car). I though t I heard him mention The Perfume Parlour, who do great dupes. I think I heard of it on here actually. I was then awaiting a Joy copy (called Delight), which I had purchased for £14 for 30ml (vs £60+) for the original.
It came very quickly, and indeed does smell very very much like Joy - BUT, as they said, does not last very long - so I spray it intentionally onto clothes, where it lasts longer. (It also makes me sneeze.)
I have to say though, that it is often that packaging for me (I remember Anais Anais actually winning a packaging award many many years ago - I am sure others do but I am no longer following these days - I worked in Marketing back then) - and yet some packaging should never have reached beyond the concept stage - I'm looking at you Good Girl stiletto 🤔
And, much as I love and agree with the refilling approach, I don't even really get along with those little refillable sprays from The Perfume Shop, although I do have three - but I only put copies into them.
Speaking of which, The Original Factory Shop (don't know if it's just a northern things...) does great copies; I am actually getting the copy of Idole (Lancome) at the weekend.
So much for loyalty....😊

Bought myself a small bottle of Opium as a nostalgia treat for Christmas (wore it 35 years ago) expecting to not like it so much anymore. But, no, still smells great and "me".

I still wear Opium - evenings only though as it is really quite a strong scent. Love it though

BlueKaftan · 29/12/2022 11:45

Penhaligons Halfeti and 4160 Tuesdays Take me to the river

Cocolapew · 29/12/2022 12:08

Chloe Narcisse, I'm gutted its been discontinued, I wore it for over 30 years.
The Body Shop did a perfumed oil, Mostly Musk, it was lovely.
My mum wears Safari by Ralph Lauren.
Estée Lauder Beautiful.
Ysatis is an old favourite.
Coco Mademoiselle.

pompomdaisy · 29/12/2022 13:15

I'm loving my Chanel No 5 right now

Penhaligons halfeti

That’s the smell of my bloke. I love it.

PAFMO · 29/12/2022 13:23

I have over 200 full bottles of perfume and collect vintage versions.
The perfumes that actually get finished and then replaced are:

Chanel 19
Miss Dior (original)
Anaïs Anaïs (original)
Eau d'Hadrien
Opium
Shalimar.

Vintages that I have small supplies of that won't be finished until I can source replacements:

Obsession
Dioressence
Fracas
Vent Vert
Dune
Ysatis

(Most of these are still available but formulations have changed so much in some cases (Obsession) that they are unrecognisable)

What would I buy this minute if money were no object?

The full bottle of vintage Dioressence I've been watching on eBay for years
A bottle of Tauer Lonestar Memories and L'Air du Desert Marocain
A bottle of Chanel 31 Rue Cambon and Coromandel.

@Cocolapew I've got an old tester bottle of Safari. It's fab. Makes me feel expensive and reminds me of walking through the perfume dept of Kendall's in Manchester in the early 90s and having a squirt.

For dupes I really rate most Perfume Parlour ones and find they last longer in some cases than the real thing. I don't think they are good at replicating Chanel or Guerlain though.

PutYourBackIntoit · 29/12/2022 13:25

@DeadDonkey Sun, moon stars was also my favourite. I loved it so much, the bottle, the scent, the fact it was voted 'sexiest scent' in Cosmo :)

I found the exact same scent in Primark by the cashier desk for £4 a month ago. The bottle has small moons and stars on the applique. The scent doesn't stick, it's a diluted version but it took me straight back to the 90's.

TragicMuse · 29/12/2022 13:27

Thameen Cullinan Diamond. It's just wonderful.

I had a spray in Selfridges in September and it has lived in my memory ever since.

I ADORE Dioressence. I was given it for Christmas in 1996 by then secret lover! It's one of the best scents I've ever encountered.

Mydogisanaughtyboy · 29/12/2022 13:32

Chanel Gardenia - insane price £300 plus but smells so good. Also in love with Tiger By Her Side which is more reasonable £95. Sort of!

CockSpadget · 29/12/2022 13:35

It’s one of the love it or hate it perfumes, but the original Poison is my absolute fave. I’ve worn it for 30 years, and never get tired of it.

Knobblykneeshairytoes · 29/12/2022 13:51

J'adore - Christian Dior

WinterFoxes · 29/12/2022 13:58

Eau de Givenchy the way it smelled in 1980s. They've changed the recipe and it is nothing like what it was.

KiwiMum2023 · 29/12/2022 14:03

I could never choose one but right now I am loving my Replica by the fireplace and Azuree from Estée Lauder which is divine.

That reminds me to add Givenchy III to my list of "not to be finished until replaced"
So many beautiful perfumes, so little time!

crochetcrazy1978 · 29/12/2022 14:17

L'eau D'Issey for sure
