If money was no object what is the no.1. perfume you've ever tried?

I’m surprised no one has said Maison Francis Baccarat Rouge 540

I have a sample of this and I can’t understand the fuss. I only realised today that is was really popular and I remembered I had a tiny bottle.

Onynx · 29/12/2022 01:41

My favourite perfumes have all been altered or discontinued. My first perfume was the original Nina by Nina Ricci- almost 40 years ago, then the original Ralph Lauren Romance. I remember meeting it for the first time in Montreal when it was being launched. My everyday perfume Yves Rocher 'Nature' sadly discontinued. And I've just remembered a gorgeous Bourjois perfume circa 1996 that I bought in France but can't remember the name🙈

easy

molecue essentric 01
(constantly stopped by strangers asking what it is)

Santal 33 is another.

nunsflipflop · 29/12/2022 02:23

I love Molton Brown Milk Musk

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 29/12/2022 02:50

I like Fragonard by the house of Fragonard

Anais Anais is an old favorite

Juicy Couture

Chanel No 5

NIparty · 29/12/2022 02:51

Chanel coco mademoiselle

Erolfa for women by creed. My mum adored this and they stopped making it. I had a bit of a row with a girl in harrods who denied it ever existed. It definitely did and just smells of my mum. Id love to find her a bottle.

Also very Valentino and 212 Carolina Herrera were the two repeat perfumes I had, I don't think they make either of them any more sadly. Or the DKNY Apple ones.

Is this the one?

Erolfa

CoffeandTiaMaria · 29/12/2022 03:08

Miss Dior
Cabochard by Grès
Bloom Gucci

Yogipineapple123 · 29/12/2022 03:23

Santal 33!

Dustyblue · 29/12/2022 03:34

For my b'day I treated myself to a bottle of Cacheral LouLou, the 90's classic. Still love it.

Chloe Narcisse (discontinued)- another 90's classic. LOVED THAT.

Still love the original Giorgio Armani in the yellow/white striped box, it smells like summer to me.

Black Opium isn't as fabulous as I expected so I haven't spent the money on it.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/12/2022 04:36

Mine is Chanel No5; Coco Chanel; and Angel (Mugler). No changes for me in ages. Hardly wear scent though.

This was apparently a dupe of YSL ‘Paris’.

I’ve not tried it though, so can’t comment as to whether that’s accurate

I had completely forgotten Roma. It was lovely and very like YSL Paris. Now I wish I had either. They were both quite light and sweet but not too cloying.

I am planning to buy Miss Dior original, which I have not worn for years. I got a Shay & Blue Black Tulip spray in my M&S Advent Calendar (a present from a friend) which I thought was really nice. My money no object buy would be to have matching perfume and body lotion.

Did anyone listen to Sliced Bread on Radio 4 in which Greg Foot investigated clone perfumes?

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001fwfc

He concluded that some were very good but that the fragrance lasted less than the premium brands.

glittermoomoo · 29/12/2022 05:59

Thank you, I have enjoyed reading all your answers- I shall try to try some of these out as samples just to smell them!

My favourite is either Chanel Coco Madomiselle or Body shop Oceanus which they stopped many years ago but will always have a place in my heart.

Another vote for Le Labo Santal 33
Vilhelm Parfumerie Moon Carnival 💛

Zoetrope1 · 29/12/2022 06:07

@RumblePhish try Le Labo Rose 31. As with all Le Labo perfumes, suggest you grab a sample or spritz it on in store and see how it develops. They really do smell different on the skin vs paper strip and they develop over time

wishiwasacollie · 29/12/2022 06:18

For me Dior Le Grand Bal. sadly discontinued. Eeking out very last drops of bottle bought for my 50th

evilharpy · 29/12/2022 06:47

The sadly discontinued Nina Ricci Delices d'Epices. It was cheap but no perfume I've ever owned or tried has come close. If money was no object I'd give my last remaining bottle to a perfumier and get them to replicate it.

For the Cosmetics To Go fans, here's a catalogue for nostalgia purposes.

barmycatmum · 29/12/2022 07:13

Vanille Abricot by Comptoir noir did pacifique.

Basically, I love smelling like a bakery 😂

barmycatmum · 29/12/2022 07:13
  • sud pacifique
QuicheQuoche · 29/12/2022 07:51

@nunsflipflop Milk Musk is my favourite too. Absolutely love it.

scarecrow22 · 29/12/2022 09:16

Aromatics Noir by Clinique

DH bout it for me at Xmas even though we were not supposed to be doing presents for each other (other than little treats). I still feel a glow of happiness about it. But maybe it just suits my skin/warmth/pheromones....

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/12/2022 09:18

Any by Roja as the bottles are divine.

CHANEL Coromandel, 22 and 31 Rue Cambon from their Les Exclusives collection.

boobot1 · 29/12/2022 09:23

misssunshine4040 · 28/12/2022 23:13

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique.
I've loved since it was first released and buy it every year

Agree, and guerlain insolence, love them both.

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/12/2022 09:26

LadyOfTheCanyon · 28/12/2022 22:29

The original 'Om' by Gap in the late 90s. I would pay a ton for that now.

Also the original Envy for Men by Gucci.

Body Shop here too - their Woody Sandalwood oil from the 80s was incredible.

Me too. OM was so beautiful. Im still searching for anything similar.

the other one I loved was Libertine by Vivienne Westwood.

RumblePhish · 29/12/2022 09:27

CatChant · 29/12/2022 00:05

Frederique Malle’s Portrait of a Lady. I was given a bottle bought from Liberty for Christmas - lucky me! And it would certainly be one of my candidates for best perfume ever.

But I think vintage Balmain Vent Vert with its glorious savage gust of green fumes beats it - it has to be vintage though, not the anaemic, watery, modern reformulation.

Thank you!!
