What a fabulous photo glue! She looks very glamorous and I love how she's wearing her hat at a saucy angle!

frugalkitty · 10/10/2022 20:34

If anyone needs something to watch on Netflix, I can recommend The Empress (though it's subtitled so you need to pay attention). Not so much for the jewels but from the historical angle.

RomainingCalm · 10/10/2022 20:56

I had no idea either about Mrs Greville so thank you to everyone for sharing all of that. Having now done some reading I feel we should have a meeting at Polesden Lacey and wear our jewels. and I'd really love Mrs G's ivy leaf earrings please if nobody else wants them

@gluenotsoup beautiful photo of your grandma she looks very chic, I love the gloves are they gauntlet style folded over ?

I agree about grunge in the 90s I never did grunge, I liked looking glamorous and I had skinny legs too they looked ridiculous in Doc Martens !

gluenotsoup · 10/10/2022 20:57

Thanks! I’d thought I’d put a full length one on actually, complete with shoes..

The version we have access to in the US is dubbed. I'm usually not fond of dubbing but I am often doing something else while I'm watching TV and subtitles does make that a bit more difficult.

gluenotsoup · 10/10/2022 20:59

I think they were folded over, it’s a bit hard to make them out. She was very interested in clothes and fashion, really rather stylish for the time and demographic.

Thank you will definitely put that on my watch list, I love a period drama

William and Kate have been recording a Newsbeat special for World Mental Health Day.

It's a Zara blazer and with trousers seems to be her current 'go to' working look which I like.

Wow @gluenotsoup what a gorgeous picture. She looks amazing!
You know I'm a Kate fashion fan and she looks fabulous as ever. But - although she looks glossy, it almost doesn't look like her? Is it different makeup and longer hair or just me?

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/10/2022 22:01

I agree. She looks great in that picture. I usually like her 'business attire." And I really like her necklace as well.

Maireas · 10/10/2022 22:14

She looks lovely, I agree it's a better look for her, a bit more sharp and business like.

An sharing arrangement sounds reasonable to me @JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon. The peardrops are pretty spectacular too, so happy to borrow those, and in return let you have a go with the Greville Festoon. It looks heavy enough to induce headaches so perhaps it's just as well I share it. Grin

Good point, my old whiplash injury might not like such a heavy necklace on a regular basis!

A mutually beneficial swap is agreed!

Sounds like a great idea; count me in! You'll know it's me because I'll be wearing the Greville Festoon necklace, obvs.

I like Kate's look there. She was also in a red Zara blazer a few days ago when she recorded a good luck message for the England Rugby Team (I think it's the blazer she wore for the football a while back?).

Sophie’s Africa visit continues - she's been to DRC, Rwanda, and now she's in Botswana. I think she's doing such great work with not a lot of recognition or plaudits. If KC is going to be relying on Edward and Sophie to do a lot, including international visits, I think they need to be given a more generous wardrobe and jewellery allowance. Here's Sophie in pink in Botswana. I think the colour is good on her but can't quite see the whole style/shape.

Sorry, first paragraph of my post is a reply to Romaining; the rest is general chat aimed at all!

State visit from the Dutch royals to Sweden today. There's a rumour at the airport (according to Svensk Damtidning) that W-A flew the plane himself.

I am confident there will be pretty dresses later ;)

StartupRepair · 11/10/2022 11:37

Seems like a long and gruelling trip for Sophie.

Yes, she seems to have been away for ages (longer than a week I think).

And hopefully tiaras! Do we think Max packed the Stuart?

I agree, I don’t read newspapers really, but does Sophie get as much press as Kate and William ? Doesn’t seem so to me, it’s a shame when she is doing such good work

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/10/2022 13:17

Speaking of relying on Edward and Sophie, I wonder if Charles is going to give Edward the Edinburgh dukedom. If not, he should give him some other dukedom or make Wessex a dukedom.

KillingMeDeftly · 11/10/2022 13:22

She doesn't @667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast but twas ever the case that the younger and more glamorous members of the royal family get the bulk of the media coverage.

gluenotsoup · 11/10/2022 13:47

I agree, they definitely need more coverage and a promotion. I’ve barely seen anything reported about Sophie’s visit, but work like that going unoticed doesn’t help people to see the genuine good that they do, rather than just the celebrity/ glamour style reporting.
Not that I’m averse to a bit is sparkle and glamour… send more Sophie’s way!
I like Kate in the jackets… and the side fringe. I think her make up is more subtle, that might be making her look a bit different (and a little whisper… maybe a bit of baby Botox?…). I’m a Kate fan, she looks great 👍🏼 😊

Quarique · 11/10/2022 14:35

When KC did his mini tour and was in Scotland making his vows he said he gives all this Scottish titles to his son. Maybe that includes Edinburgh? At the time I did wonder if it was Rothsey or more?

eggandonion · 11/10/2022 14:58

Was qe2 Duchess of Edinburgh, like Queen Mum was Duchess of York, so Edinburgh wasn't a Charles title? If that makes sense.
I wonder if the blazers were frowned upon by her majesty, who liked a nice coat dress? Will royal ladies have more wardrobe freedom now?
