I remember when Princess Anne got married. It was a cold November with an energy crisis and power cuts. We got the day off school to watch it, and it was an oasis of colour and shine and bling in rather bleak times.

I didn't realise Anne married in November (wasn't yet born!) but it seems like a strange time of year for a royal wedding. I think her brothers all married in the summer, as did William and Harry.

I read that Ted Heath asked them to bring it forward because of the problems in the country and risks of civil unrest. A positive and colourful event to unite the nation. How true that is, I don't know.

I didn't realise that but have just seen that today would've been their 75th anniversary.

I rather like winter, and there's something rather romantic about a winter wedding to me. Or late autumn I guess, if we're talking November.
