Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

Nice yellow dress on Kate today

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/10/2022 13:32

Speaking of the Luxembourg brides, I am not usually a fan of a lot of lace, as I prefer simpler designs, but Princess Claire's Elie Saab was beautiful; it's right up there as one of my favorites.

The style is nice but I'm not sure that slightly more mustardy shade of yellow suits her. From a distance it looks like she's topless!

The clearer yellow she's worn to Wimbledon in the past looked much better.

Oh I like it!

But mustard is one of my favourite colours.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 13:37

Again with the shoes, though. Please Kate, I beg you. There are so many other styles you could wear!!

meateatingveggie · 05/10/2022 13:40

Not keen on the colour and to me navy accessories are too obvious. But she's 'working' so I get she needs a certain look, and this is very appropriate.

However I want full on royal bling and glamour for any evening/state/receptions please 😆

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 13:43

Yes definitely! We need serious sparkle!!

Spudlet · 05/10/2022 14:06

She’s using my work colours - I have ochre towels and navy couch covers. Excellent taste from the PoW there 😂

Serenster · 05/10/2022 14:48

Not keen on the colour and to me navy accessories are too obvious.

They are navy? I thought they were black on my screen. Navy is at least a step more interesting (imagine if she’d gone for aubergine…) so I’ll take it.

I was more surprised its Karen Millen. They must have revamped their house style, as they are not a label I would have thought of her wearing, previously.

Serenster · 05/10/2022 14:50

Also, I see that the dress isn’t sold with the belt. Given it’s a perfect match, I wonder if she bought two and used one to make the belt? Good advance planning by someone, if so.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 14:51

The problem is that all good colour choices are quite obvious, I think.

I mean, I’d certainly pick one of a few other colours if I was trying to be more interesting than navy, but they’d also be fairly predictable choices to those who know about what colours look great together.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 15:23

I expect it’s more likely that she either had the belt made and dyed to match by a third party, or that at time of buying she commissioned a belt from the brand to go perfectly with the dress. However if she did buy two, I expect the leftover fabric has been stored somewhere and will come in handy at a later date. Interesting all the behind-the-scenes details that go into a royal outfit!

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 16:08

I’ve had a look at the dress at Karen Millen and it’s definitely sold as a belted dress.

But its still more fun (if just a little bit ludicrous) to imagine an absolutely ginormous wing of Buckingham palace stuffed full of second dresses for each dress in her wardrobe, just in case she might one day want a matching hat/belt/bag/gloves/scarf/whatnot.

It's an improvement on the endless coat dresses.

@Tassen that last portrait of Margaret is one of my favourites. You can tell that it’s very intimate. She’s a woman in love.

Princess Margaret was Hollywood film star beautiful I think, the Snowdon portraits were very risqué at the time but look tame to us now. That blue tiara is beautiful.

My mum who’s in her late 80s says she used to keep a scrapbook of Margaret’s hair styles and dresses. I think she had a lot more freedom than HM Queen Elizabeth who had to wear British designers

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 18:27

The one in the bath with her tiara on says everything about Margaret’s character!

I read a biography of Snowdon a while back. They were quite horrid to each other at times.

Serenster · 05/10/2022 18:33

Ah, thanks for the correction - I was misled by instagram!

Princess Margaret was such a beauty. Her 21st birthday photos in her Dior dress - she does look like a film star. She could be playing Audrey Hepburn’s character in Roman Holiday here.

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/10/2022 18:37

In that picture, is she wearing the Cartier Halo tiara that Kate wore for her wedding?

Maireas · 05/10/2022 18:40

Looks like it! Good spot, Seneca!

Eaumyword · 05/10/2022 18:40

I think Kate looks gorgeous there and I'm not a fan of mustard yellow! She really is a beautiful woman imho.
Yes @NiqueNique it does seem the Snowdons had barely concealed animosity for each other after a whirlwind romance. Did I read correctly that he had a threesome (not with Margaret!) during their engagement? If that's not a red flag...!😱
I love that bath tiara photo of Margaret.

KillingMeDeftly · 05/10/2022 18:54

The threesome was in The Crown but I think there was some basis in reality. Didn't it come out that he was involved with a couple and their daughter was his?

Spudlet · 05/10/2022 19:00

He was awful to her - would write nasty little notes and pass them to her when they were in company to upset her. Absolutely
vile sounding man. It’s so sad.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 19:01

Yes that’s true, thinking about it the nasty behaviour might have been more (if not all) on his side.

Tempestuous, temperamental people make for some fantastic highs. But can also bring some pronounced lows.

Tassen · 05/10/2022 19:15

I do wonder why on earth Margaret married Antony Armstrong - Jones as he was definitely not right for her.

Perhaps she was worried about approaching 30 & not being married as I suppose back in those days 30 was considered quite old to be unmarried?

If only MN was around in the late 1950s, we could have probably sorted her out romance wise & told her not to to settle for any old one.

NiqueNique · 05/10/2022 19:22

She was a bit of a rebel and liked to live rather dangerously. She had already given up one big love for King and country and she wasn’t about to be told no again. (My take on it)
