Evening Royal style and beauty fans.
Into the Carolean era, with more bling we hope! Also more state banquets?

@meateatingveggie they are red!

Oh how boring lol

KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2022 09:46

I prefer Elisabeth's deep red heels, even if she is matching them to her clutch.

Wow Mathilde just blew the thread up!

meateatingveggie · 01/10/2022 09:51

What a mish mash of styles. Not only are the ladies so opposite, the men too. Either uniform or 'golf club annual dinner'.

CliffsofMohair · 01/10/2022 06:25

I know it’s a Belgian military event and she probably has to wear something colour appropriate …

BUT WHAT IN THE NAME OF RONALD MCDONALD IS THIS?

Your post made me laugh out loud this morning, thank you! 😂😂

Wow Mathilde just blew the thread up!

I’d say that was her plan. Tired of being overshadowed by her mate Max

Eaumyword · 01/10/2022 10:25

Brilliant comments, friends 😂
Ronald Mcdonald indeed - what was she thinking!
I like the grey suit the other lady is wearing...

KillingMeDeftly · 01/10/2022 10:26

@Eaumyword That's her daughter Elisabeth, the future queen.

LadyEloise1 · 01/10/2022 10:59

Mathilde has outmaxed Max !!!! 😂
Ronald Mc Donald indeed.

Did Philippe not say "Holy sh*t Mats, what are ya wearin !!!"

CliffsofMohair · 01/10/2022 11:26

As a teen princess with a Queen Mum do you not develop the skill of saying ‘wouldn’t be seen dead near you in that’ ? Is it all curtsy’ing and reverence?
and does she not have a stylist?

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 11:35

This illustrates very well that you’ve either got it, or you’ve not. There’s always a right and a wrong in fashion, even if you do like to ‘break the rules’...

Poor Mathilde.

Wow Mathilde just blew the thread up!

Bless her though, she's certainly given us something to discuss on a chilly Saturday morning!

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 11:47

Tbh I still applaud her for it, even if it didn’t work. I quite like seeing someone at least try to be interesting.

MotherofPearl · 01/10/2022 11:52

Elisabeth looks good and I like her matching shoes and bag. Blush

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 11:53

Matching shoes and bag is okay here and there. I do it myself sometimes!

It’s only when it’s all the freakin’ time that it bothers me (a bit like the ubiquitous dress coat).

AdaColeman · 01/10/2022 11:58

Mathilde is from Bastogne, they all dress like that there!
I like the exuberance of the colour combination, with the red and yellow of the Belgian flag. Mathilde has worn the pieces separately previously, the suit is by Natan a Belgian designer. I think she has put together a fun outfit for what was essentially a family outing for Gabriel's passing out parade.
I especially like the hat and the gloves!
Elizabeth looks lovely in her Prince of Wales check outfit and burgundy accessories.

Maireas · 01/10/2022 12:02

I do like colour, and if I were in charge (as I should be) grey would be banned completely, and black only for funerals.
I don't think these individual items are bad, but the particular shades in combination don't look great imo.
Mathilde will forever be the woman who had matching masks to her outfits, which gives her a gold star in my book!

I'm a fan of colour and have similar feelings about grey and black@Maireas@MaireasMathilde would have been better served by a skirt

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 12:11

Ah fair enough if it’s a cultural thing. And I get that maybe it was intended to be a particularly fun and celebratory look.

The colours do go together perfectly well but IMO would have looked much better with a darker colour - blue or green, maybe - to ground it a bit (and also avoids the awful likeness to Ronald McDonald). Even a patterned blouse with one or both of her primary outfit colours plus darker colours would have helped. As would a darker hat and possibly shoes too.

But at the end of the day she obviously loved it enough to wear it, so I’m not going to diss it too much.

NiqueNique · 01/10/2022 12:15

Ah so this is where my lack of knowledge of flags comes in...

I think the biggest problem for me is the red top. Combined with the red hat, shoes and gloves it cuts her figure up in a very unflattering way - it looks a bit like a jigsaw puzzle because of the very bright colours, it’s just all wrong in my book. Fully yellow outfit with red bag/shoes or red hat/bag, or whatever combination, would have been better.

CliffsofMohair · 01/10/2022 13:08

The belt is huge as well which is adding to the Ronald effect

paradyning · 01/10/2022 13:26

People dress like this in Bastogne?
In what context?

Checking into Instagram I follow a UK style icon. Actress aged around 90 Yesterday's picture I thought OH she's not well or maybe an off day. Reminded me how I felt when I saw some of the queens final pictures. It's perhaps weird to feel invested in a complete stranger but I do miss the queen as if I had known her

I’m exactly the same about the Queen, she was so much part of British culture, even if you weren’t a royal family fan she was an extraordinary woman. I’m finding that I feel like I didn’t really appreciate her fully until she’d gone 😔 as I hardly ever watched her Christmas speech etc. She was just always there. It also took me a few years to realise she was a fashion icon, for many years I just thought she looked old fashioned(when I was younger) but I really like the way she had her own style and stuck with it regardless of what fashions were in or out.

Tassen · 01/10/2022 17:07

It's the red gloves & hat that ruin Mathilde's outfit as they've made it too extra (as my DD & her friends would exclaim with lots of eye rolling)
Bin the gloves & hat & it would be great just like something Max would wear.

PeasInOurTime · 01/10/2022 17:48

I kind of like Mathilde’s outfit. It gives no fucks. It’s growing on me 😳🤣
