A sad start to a new thread, but I hope we can celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Regina, what a woman, and what style!

Everyone has looked so elegant so far. Black and pearls - very chic.

I almost wish those who are clearly holding back tears just let them go, though; it wouldn't be something HMQ would have done, but I think it would go very far to humanising the RF and perhaps win sympathy from those who don't currently hold any. It's so sad to see Kate clearly trying to stop herself from crying.

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 12:57

Yes a lot of people aren’t happy about that.

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 12:58

(The former King of Spain’s attendance, I mean)

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/09/2022 13:01

I know there is an issue with numbers (sounds almost like every thread on MN about weddings) so maybe that's the issue with the Danish RF. There was a bit of discussion in the US media about whether President Biden would have been invited to bring an entourage and who might be included (in some past state funerals in other countries, the sitting president has brought a bi-partisan delegation including former presidents.) But then it was made clear that, because of limited numbers that the Abbey can accommodate, the invitation is just for him and Dr. Jill.

Perhaps they're worried if they start, they won't stop. I've never let myself cry at funerals, I don't like to lose control in front of people. It's not that I don't want to, it's just that I'd hate to be sobbing away with an audience. I do my bawling in private, with just family there. Can't imagine what it would be like if I had the press there too!

Serenster · 16/09/2022 13:08

I know for the history it really has to be Westminster Abbey, but I wonder whether behind the scenes any serious consideration was given to having the funeral at St Pauls, given it can seat more. That was why Charles and Diana were married there, rather than the Abbey.

Here you are frugalkitty. It’s a bit slapdash though - they talk of the Delhi Durbar tiara, but then show photos of the emerald setting of the Vladimir, and they miss out a couple that are still around. They also add in Princess Anne’s meander tiara which was Prince Phillip’s mother’s tiara and never belonged to the Queen

It's pretty obvious that they need to hire us as consultants for this stuff! Who knows their tiaras as well as we do, after all?

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/09/2022 13:51

So true. I heard one commentator say that the crown on top of the coffin is the one that King Charles will be crowned with. No, Mr. Expert. He will be crowned with St. Edward's Crown which is much older, has historically been considered a holy relic, and is only used for coronations. Charles could arguably use a different crown, including the Imperial State Crown, but I think it highly unlikely that he would do that.

I've just seen this on Twitter — I think Daisy will have to find a more sombre raincoat if the funeral is a drizzly day!

She's been watching the sewing bee!

Apparently she made this herself from a plastic coated tablecloth. Contestants on Sewing Bee made raincoats from shower curtains once!

I think Patrick and Esme would approve of this!

KillingMeDeftly · 16/09/2022 14:01

I wonder if a personal invitation will be extended to the Obamas? They did seem to have more than just a formal/head of state relationship with HMQ. Not just compared with Trump but even with the Bidens and Clintons.

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2022 19:18

I agree that Kate looked very elegant today.

Speaking of Sarahs - have we seen anything of Sarah Chatto in the recent days? She was very close to HMQ and will be at the funeral I'm sure. She's certainly one of the most stylish royals, in an understated way. I love her signature look of full skirt and neat little cardis.

She was quite difficult to spot as her hat had a reasonably large somewhat downturned brim so her face was quite obscured, probably a very sensible move if you can get away with it.

iknowimcoming · 16/09/2022 15:33

I'm assuming that the family will have a private service at Windsor after all the processions when they will be able to show emotion away from cameras?

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/09/2022 16:05

I thought Charles and Camilla both looked well-turned out and somewhat rested at the service in Wales.I really like Camilla's suit; it looked as though the jacket has a bit of a peplum effect. She appeared to hesitate (not quite a stumble) on the walk out and she and Charles smiled at each other, probably a broken toe issue. I notice that Charles brought his own pen for signing the guest book. Smile

Yes, the internment is private.

Here's the Prince and Princess of Wales meeting Commonwealth troops. Kate's in a very neat suit, cute hat and that nice handbag again.

SnottyLottie · 16/09/2022 16:45

Catherine looks gorgeous, I love the shape of her hat, it really suits her. And she looks a lot healthier and more well rested than she has in the past few days (understandably).

hopeishere · 16/09/2022 17:19

She needs to blend her blusher a bit more. Otherwise looks lovely!

Eaumyword · 16/09/2022 17:24

She looks lovely.

HeddaGarbled · 16/09/2022 18:23

She looks like Mary Poppins (in a good way).

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 18:33

I thought that too (also in a good way)! Love the hat, especially, and the heels which are welcome change from stilettos.

hbdgwalls · 16/09/2022 18:50

I thought there was issues with JC attending due to his court case with his former girlfriend? He's subject to investigation by an English court?

LadyEloise1 · 16/09/2022 18:57

How does Sofia stick JC ?

CliffsofMohair · 16/09/2022 19:52

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 11:46

Alternatively it could have been a misunderstanding on the Danish side? Not sure how it all went down. Anyway she’s not going. And probably quite moody about it. Wink

@NiqueNique i feel like you have insider Danske Royals knowledge…. 🤔

Gooseysgirl · 16/09/2022 20:11

Just watched the Vigil of the Princes(s)... most of the grandchildren and great grandchildren were there watching from the balcony, except for the Wales' and Sussexes, Linleys and Chattos so I'm guessing they will be there tomorrow and probably George and Charlotte too.

Chewbecca · 16/09/2022 20:38

Love Kate’s hair and hat today. I feel sorry for her feet, I would be desperate for a pair of hotters on my trotters.
