A sad start to a new thread, but I hope we can celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Regina, what a woman, and what style!

I read that both queens owned them.

I read that both queens owned them.

Do you think Elizabeth got them after Mary was executed?

Overall of the ladies I really liked Camilla's outfit - especially the hat. So lovely and it suited her, unlike the one Nicola Sturgeon wore yesterday - far too big.
I also liked Zara's outfit but agree that Sophie's one was a bit frumpy.

KillingMeDeftly · 14/09/2022 20:50

Didn't Meghan wear that coat to Remembrance Sunday one year? I love saucer hats with half-veils - they're so elegant.

hopeishere · 14/09/2022 20:53

Sophie's is a bit fussy and unforgiving- you can see where her tights are digging in at the waist. Meghan's ankles are so slim!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2022 20:57

Meghan does have the slimmest little ankles. They all looked good. I hope they can rest up a bit before Monday.

LadyEloise1 · 14/09/2022 21:03

Zara looked beautiful.
Sad but beautiful.
The neckline really suited her.

justasking111 · 14/09/2022 21:04

Apparently Camilla has gone home to Wiltshire and Charles to Highgrove. They both need to get some rest now

NiqueNique · 14/09/2022 21:06

Yes I think they desperately need a night and day of rest.

NiqueNique · 14/09/2022 21:14

It does make sense that Elizabeth I would have worn the pearls too! I need to watch that programme about the imperial crown!

NiqueNique · 14/09/2022 21:17

(Please excuse excessive exclamation marks. And excessive comments.)

Clarabe1 · 14/09/2022 21:20

Hats! We need to talk about hats. The queen had some amazing ones. Her silver jubilee hat was amazing! It was a work of art. The queen wore bright colours not because she was a huge fan but because she knew how important it was for her public to be able to see her. I suspect that is why her hats were always so striking

NiqueNique · 14/09/2022 21:30

H! did love her fantastic hats. And her brooches - I think that’s why both the Queen Consort and the Princess of Wales wore one today.

SenecaFallsRedux · 14/09/2022 21:33

That might be the best I have seen on Zara. I especially like that type of neckline.

I thought Camilla, Kate, and Meghan all looked lovely and very elegant. I'm not sure about the brooches though. From a distance, Catherine's looked a bit like a Christmas tree.

NiqueNique · 14/09/2022 21:37

Yes it’s much too big for my liking tbf and not particularly elegant for that reason
But it was loaned to Kate by the Queen so perhaps it had a personal meaning behind it. I agree that everyone got it right and looked lovely but Sophie’s dress was far too fussy.

AdaColeman · 14/09/2022 21:38

👑 Thanks @Maireas for this new thread, lovely title.

I especially liked Kate's hat today, I love a bit a bit of veiling, and Zara looked very nice, not as tightly trussed up as she has often looked of late.
I suppose we will start to see pieces of the Queen's jewellery worn now by Kate, Camilla and others. I thought the brooch worn by Kate would have looked better positioned high on the shoulder.

Camilla has done well this week, though she looked exhausted today & yesterday, but her trusty pearls have given her a bit of a lift. I think it's an old trick to wear something white at your throat if you are tired.

My Grandma used to have a box of black ostrich feathers that were attached to hats worn to funerals, essential items years ago apparently.

SenecaFallsRedux · 14/09/2022 21:44

I was really impressed by the Duke of Gloucester. He walked the whole way, and he was the oldest member of the RF walking, at 78.

excelledyourself · 14/09/2022 22:12

I am exhausted just thinking about the organisation and effort that has gone into these last few days. The staff and military must a bag of nerves. I felt those going men carrying the coffin today. And the riders of some of the more restless horses.

And I really feel for the RF having to endure all this formality and public performance.

As an aside, I've just read about the attempted kidnapping of Princess Anne. What a story!

excelledyourself · 14/09/2022 22:12

So many typos Blush

gingercat02 · 14/09/2022 22:29

Amazing few days of pomp and circumstance and of total love and humility from the Queen's family. They must be wiped out.

Anne has done her Mother proud and Charles and Camilla I hope will be a brillant King and Queen.

I would like them all to be curled up on the sofa with their drink of choice just taking stock of things.

StartupRepair · 14/09/2022 22:41

It has been an extraordinary few days. I hope the immediate family have a moment to regroup. Princess Anne must be exhausted. Very moved by her fierce devotion.

I think the queen gave it her to wear at the Commonwealth War Graves. So maybe she was honouring the queen's commitment to the Commonwealth?

I also thought that Kate won the hat wars. I usually hate her fascinators and hairbands but this was just right. She looked like she'd been crying, though. She kept gulping hard as if she was trying to keep her tears under control. They all obviously cared about the queen so much. So sad.

hopeishere · 15/09/2022 06:28

I think showing bit of emotion will do them no harm. I saw some close ups of Kate and she does look wrecked. They're off to Sandringham today to look at the tributes.

And I know we don't get into the Meghan/Harry's stuff but this cannot be easy for any of them when feelings about that are still running high.
