A sad start to a new thread, but I hope we can celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Regina, what a woman, and what style!

Yes I think the need to ensure there was some colour to their faces probably got the better of some of the women - it’s important for photographs as well, as the lights wash out your face completely and they will have been very tired and likely very pale with grief and exhaustion.

I don’t believe Sarah was invited. I think she will be at the funeral itself.

I don't think she will, it's a state occasion and she's not a member of the family.
She only went to Meghan and Harry's wedding because she's a friend of the couple (and taught Meghan to curtsey!)

True enough, I thought I had read that she had had an invitation but...thinking about it that really wouldn’t happen in relation to a state funeral, would it.

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/09/2022 16:40

I think I read somewhere that she was invited to Meghan and Harry's wedding in part because he is so close to Eugenie, and he did it in part for her.

Supposedly she continued to have a good relationship with the Queen (but not with Philip), so it will be interesting. She's looking after the corgis, so that should count for something.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/09/2022 16:54

I think Sarah will have been invited to the funeral as she always got along with HMQ very well, plus it would be terribly mean not to invite her, corgis or no corgis.

NiqueNique · 15/09/2022 17:00

I guess we’ll see on the day! She may be there in her capacity of whatever she is to Andrew, if the Queen wanted it that way.

NiqueNique · 15/09/2022 17:04

Yes if it’s true that she and the Queen were still friendly, I think HM was the kind of person who would show kindness in this instance.

Floralei · 15/09/2022 17:07

I think Fergie will be there as a general mourner not as family. She knew the Queen long before she married - her father knew the royals through the army and polo.

APB (the new Queen’s Ex!) writes in the Speccie this week “On a state visit, Major Ronald Ferguson, riding next to the rear carriage wheel, let his horse get too far forward. ‘Major Ferguson,’ [HMQ] told him, ‘the crowd has come to see me, not you.’”

frugalkitty · 15/09/2022 17:15

I love Kate's outfit today, it's super elegant. Didn't H & M say something once about only having two children because it's better for the planet? I don't think they'll have any more

frugalkitty · 15/09/2022 17:18

Photo would help!

They both look very smart. I like Kate's handbag, she usually carries a little clutch.
Her hair is lovely.

Interesting re Meghan Markle's earrings being the gift from that joint engagement. I wonder if they were stored over here, whether she just happened to have them for their trip, or whether they were brought over from Montecito?

That's a good question! I wonder if they were brought over, together with other items she needed. They're beautiful, and I also read HMQ gave her a necklace to match, I hope we see her in that.

Do you think it's because Kate is so tall that she always looks elegant? I have a very tall friend who always looks so perfectly put together too. I hope that's what it is because I'm not tall and look scruffy no matter what. I'd like to blame it on my height!

She only went to Meghan and Harry's wedding because she's a friend of the couple (and taught Meghan to curtsey!)

She did a great job then. They all curtsied as they left and Meghan's was definitely the deepest... and in those heels too. Respect.

NiqueNique · 15/09/2022 17:47

It’s definitely easier to look elegant and well put together when you are tall and very slim. But Kate (or her stylist) also clearly understands the principles of well fitting clothes as her outfits are always impeccably tailored to fit her perfectly. That makes a big difference to the overall look she has.

Maireas · 15/09/2022 17:52

I agree, @NiqueNique, the fit is very good. Even if she has something from Topshop or Hobbs, they're always fitted well.

I really like that top handle handbag of Kate's. Very elegant.

MotherofPearl · 15/09/2022 19:18

I agree that Kate looked very elegant today.

Speaking of Sarahs - have we seen anything of Sarah Chatto in the recent days? She was very close to HMQ and will be at the funeral I'm sure. She's certainly one of the most stylish royals, in an understated way. I love her signature look of full skirt and neat little cardis.

Maireas · 15/09/2022 19:38

Yes, @MotherofPearl - she was there - in her signature look!

OP posts:
NiqueNique · 15/09/2022 19:44

Yes, she was at the service yesterday.

NiqueNique · 15/09/2022 19:48

Yes she was beautifully turned out as usual. It must be very hard for her as well - she and HM were close, particularly after Margaret’s death.

Apparently Lady Gabriella Windsor fainted as the coffin was brought into Westminster Hall.

Maireas · 15/09/2022 19:50

Yes, I saw that, poor thing.

Goodness just saw it reported all the grandchildren will hold a vigil on Sunday. That will be emotional.

paradyning · 15/09/2022 20:49

Mike T looked devastated too yesterday.
I really like Kate's dress and coat today too.
Have been watching the lying in state on bbc parliament. It is strangely absorbing. People watching and the impeccable guard chanting, and the intricacy of their uniforms. Then you see the mahooosive diamond at the front of the crown!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 15/09/2022 20:52

What an honour and a privilege to do that for their Granny.

My heart will break for them but they will do her proud. I’m sure of that.
