A sad start to a new thread, but I hope we can celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Regina, what a woman, and what style!

I recently showed my mum the "suns out, legs out" pics of Letizia on holiday with Queen Sofia, Leonor and Sofia and said "that's the queen of Spain". My mum's response was "oh, she has three daughters?"!!!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/09/2022 20:35

Can't believe how young Queen Rania looks.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 20:40

We all would look young if we'd had as much work as Rania!

Oh my goodness...just had my first look at the wedding and Delphine’s outfit...

The shoes! That hat.

I think you’re gonna need to share this one with the class.

There's been a royal(ish) wedding! Not sure I care for the dress but the tiara is pretty.

And Leti (not at said wedding) looks smokin' in black sequins. Is she the hottest queen in Europe?? She's certainly the one who tends to go for sexier styles.

Don’t love the dress (a bit milkmaid) but quite like the starter tiara 👑

Just seen an emotional looking Daisy, with Fred, at the lying in state.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 20:48

Delphine appears to show up at the opening of an envelope. I'd love to know how her half-siblings feel about it, and indeed Queen Paola.

frugalkitty · 18/09/2022 20:50

I think the Queen Consort title came about when Charles and Camilla got married because at that time there was a lot of discussion about whether or not she could even become Queen because of the whole Diana thing and her being divorced. There was a lot of anti-Camilla feeling among the public at that time and the feeling was that being titled 'Queen' wouldn't be widely accepted but that keeping her Duchess title wouldn't be quite right either (because technically she would become Queen after Charles was King) so the suggestion (compromise?) was to go for Queen Consort, in other words, she's not going to be known as Queen Camilla when Diana would have (presumably) been Queen Diana thus everyone is happy. In theory!

paradyning · 18/09/2022 20:50

Daisy looked so sad!

Serenster · 18/09/2022 21:07

I am pleased for Daisy that she’ll have her sister Anne Marie with her tomorrow, as well as her son.

Oh love Max casually chatting with the Emperor of Japan there

Wasn’t there a blind rumour a while back that Max had offered assistance to a Japanese Empress in distress ?

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 21:11

@CliffsofMohair it was linked to earlier in the thread I think. I can’t remember where I came upon the photos tbh, might’ve been Instagram?

@MotherofPearl oh I wish I had seen that. Daisy and Lilibet (as they called each other) were actually quite close friends I think.

I can’t remember who mentioned it but I know that Margrethe suffers with osteoarthritis and has had two knee replacements so I suppose it’s likely that she has hip problems too. I remember her curtsying at her father and mother’s graves a year or two ago and it was very apparent that she couldn’t any longer do so really at all and had to make whatever token gesture she could.

Spudlet · 18/09/2022 20:01

Are there any pics of the various heads of state at Westminster hall?

For the Irish on the thread - our Taoiseach (PM) Michéal Martin , his wife Mary , our President Michael D Higgins (furthest right) with his wife Sabina Coyne Higgins. The other couple are the Irish ambassador to the UK Martin Fraser and his wife Deirdre Fraser.

@frugalkitty I remember that at the time of their engagement it was stated that Camilla would take the title Princess Consort. I assumed that was just to appease Diana fans as at that a point she'd only been dead about 7 or 8 years. But Camilla has definitely proved herself and I think she more than deserves the title given to her predecessors! I thought she was a real trooper during the pen leaking incident when she remained calm and professional while Charles had a little tantrum.

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 21:24

Yes the title of Queen Consort was not mooted back then. It would not have been a realistic option at that time.

NiqueNique · 18/09/2022 21:30

Ah to be fair to the Macrons, apparently they wore the more casual outfits & trainers to view the crowds and queues (to ‘share the pain of the British people’ according to DM), They changed into formal wear before paying their respects at Westminster Hall.

CliffsofMohair · 18/09/2022 21:56

Yep quite the hat. I have seen this actually I think I commented how alike her daughter is to Crown Princess Elisabeth.

I just find the pursuit of her royal entitlements so interesting. Others would have been satisfied to just have their paternity acknowledged and develop relationships privately. I admire her strength of character. There’s a real ‘woman, know your worth’ about her.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 21:57

I understand wanting to be recognised as his daughter but not the taking on of the princess title and duties. It's not like she was living in poverty - she comes from a wealthy and noble family, much like Mathilde.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/09/2022 21:58

I also wonder if her invites to family weddings etc are actually "unvitations"!

CliffsofMohair · 18/09/2022 21:58

Maybe that’s why. it’s not that far removed from her social circle anyway. Oh to be a fly in the family WhatsApp now she’s joined.

That's fair enough.

Also she’s comparing herself to Diana ( or reporting the comparison). Which is interesting.

Maybe they immediately set up an alternative group where they discuss how much of her is made of brass! 😂
