Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Haha, sometimes I really don't get fragrantica reviews and accords/notes lists. To me the Fahrenheit edp is just a richer, deeper version of the original - I don't get anything ozonic and definitely nothing aquatic (I wouldn't be wearing it if I did - calone/melon/watery scents give me a headache). It is very unisex imo.

SOTD is Naranji by Angel Schlesser, its a summery orange blossom, its gorgeous.

Have just ordered two from San Garden as they are having 20% off today. Berber Blonde and Venus of Verbenas. Not tried the company before but I loved the sound of them so I bought the small roller bottles to try.

musicmum75 · 27/07/2022 16:54

Sotd is I am Trash by Etat Libre d'Orange. It's a lovely fruity strawberry scent but doesn't last very long. I got it through my first Sniph subscription. I'm going to compare it to Drop the Hoo Haa for a few months and see how they both compare.

musicmum75 · 27/07/2022 16:56

@ThankYouVeryMuchGerry I also took advantage of the 20% off at Sana Jardin too 😊. I got a full bottle of Incense Water as the rollerball I bought has nearly all been used up. I love Tiger By Her Side too. It's one of my favourite perfumes.

Stokey · 27/07/2022 18:08

Thanks @FestivelyScent and @MissBattleaxe for the Jasmine recommendations. I think I remember looking Samsara back in the 80s as a teen, that and Paloma Picasso!

I'm about to go out and the Channel talk is tempting me with No. 5. I have a bottle but rarely wear it as think it is a bit cat's pee on me too.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/07/2022 18:12

SOTD Byredo Gypsy Water for a hair cut.

Chevyimpala67 · 27/07/2022 19:04

I thi k the whole body chemistry thing is fascinating tbh

I loved certain perfumes on my late aunt (she was very glamorous) but they smell awful on me :(

(White linen, safari, Estee lauder super cologne...)

FestivelyScent · 27/07/2022 23:13

Welcome to the thread @dolphinsarentcommon 👋😊 If you like citrus and are comfortable crossing the aisle, have you tried the original Dior Eau Sauvage? (not the modern blue bottle) It's an elegant citrus-y chypre from the '60s and quite widely available in dept stores to sniff. 🙂

SOTD is Angel's Share. I'm so tired I can't seem to think straight. 😴

I find the perfume to body chemistry interaction interesting too @Chevyimpala67 Rose fragrances smell amazing on my mum, sophisticated and rich, but most turn to vinegar on me - I walk around wondering why I can smell salad dressing and salt and vinegar crisps. 😂

@FestivelyScent do you mean this one? Will happily try.. in fact I was only thinking today how much the Guerlain I love could be worn by my OH

SOTD is Paco Rabanne Olympea. I blind bought 15ml of this as it was on sale. It's vanilla, salt and a bit of jasmine and to me is really summery without being suncreen-like, more like warm summer skin but better. I really like it, can't stop sniffing my wrist.

RedPandaFluff · 28/07/2022 09:17

Hi everyone! I think you all might have exactly the expertise I need, so I'm hoping to get some advice from you, please!

My mum looooooves Ysatis but it's been discontinued. I can still buy it (there are a few bottles of the original formulation/black box on eBay, and you can get the reformulated one/purple box on Amazon) but I reckon the clock is ticking and this stock will start to go "off", surely?

So, if someone loves Ysatis, what else do you think they would love too?

Thank you for any opinions Grin

Chevyimpala67 · 28/07/2022 09:18

Go on fragrantica.com and it will give you other perfect that smell similar 😉

Chevyimpala67 · 28/07/2022 09:20

Perfumes even!

MissBattleaxe · 28/07/2022 11:40

@RedPandaFluff the stock won't go off if it's kept in a cool dark place. I have perfume that's around 50 years old and still smells good. On Fragrantica many readers say it smells similar to Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. Having tried both, I'd say they were right.

RedPandaFluff · 28/07/2022 14:12

Thank you! Off to explore Fragrantica Grin

Chevyimpala67 · 28/07/2022 14:21

@MissBattleaxe I've ordered some CK contradiction on your recommendation 🙂
I'm excited to try it!

MissBattleaxe · 28/07/2022 14:29

@Chevyimpala67 Oh I love it when someone follows my recommendations! I'm sure you'll like it. It's a very good every day sort of scent: a woody rose with a touch of frost.

FestivelyScent · 28/07/2022 14:39

@dolphinsarentcommon The one you've pictured is the Edp version, it's slightly different to the original - more balsamic and woody.

The original (pic below) with a silver label is still available in edt form - this is more chypre-y.

Sniff both and see which you prefer. 😊

Sotd is Miller Harris Fleur du Matin. Very Citrussy & herbal. I'm on project finish bottle at the moment. So far I've finished Hermes Pamplemousse Rose & very nearly the current one. Anything to reduce Fragantica Numbers!
I've definitely fallen a little out of love with perfumes. I think joining some Facebook perfume groups where some are absolutely obsessed ( and spend so much money ) has actually made me go the other way strangely.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/07/2022 16:54

SOTD MH Violet Ida. I am off to meet my friend for Thai food.

Horological · 28/07/2022 17:04

Hi, I'm new to this thread and hope this isn't a repetition of something discussed before.

When I was in France in 2019 I came across a range of supermarket colognes which are apparently really commonly sold in supermarkets there. The range is called Bien Etre. There are several fragrances eg. naturelle, fraiche, lavender etc. They are sold in very attractive engraved glass bottles and are sooo nice AND super cheap (about 5 euros).

I bought the naturelle one which is quite a classic cologne fragrance, sort of citrussy and fresh. I also bought one called L'Herboriste which has the same fresh smell but also woody and earthy I think it is a fig smell. They are amazing after a bath or shower and if you keep them in the fridge really refreshing on hot skin.

Because of lockdown I wasn't able to buy any more, but held on to the empty bottles and sniffed them now and then to remind me of summer holidays! After a while I found out that you can buy the naturelle one on amazon, though it costs a lot more than in France.

I have just been to France again and I tried several supermarkets. They all stock Bien Etre but not L'Herboriste and I can't find it anywhere on the internet. Does anybody know this cologne and if so, any ideas how to get hold of it or any info on whether it's been discontinued?

Have you tried ebay?

Horological · 28/07/2022 17:15

@Chevyimpala67 no I hadn't thought of ebay, I don't know why. I'll try it now!
