Hello fragrant friends,

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

@Horological no problem, love a good hunt. Sorry its discontinued, its so frustrating when that happens to something you love.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/07/2022 15:24

SOTD Diorissimo for a pizza lunch date with DP.

Chevyimpala67 · 29/07/2022 15:54

Sprayed CK contradiction again
Hope it lasts longer this time!
This is SO 90s
I love it :)

Chevyimpala67 · 29/07/2022 16:07

I would describe this as a frozen woody rose

It's rather lovely

MissBattleaxe · 29/07/2022 16:32

@Chevyimpala67 - yes there is a distinct frosty note to Contradiction!

In other news, Avon Timeless has definitely been discontinued. Again. Avon told me.

Nooooooooo!!!!!
Why????

simbobs · 29/07/2022 17:20

I have lurked on this thread from time to time. Sotd is O de Lancome. As someone mentioned up thread this has been discontinued (why???). I always liked it as a summer fragrance but hadn't had any for a number of years. I smelled it on someone recently and decided to buy some (before I knew that it had been discontinued). Searched everywhere. Became obsessed and had to have some. Eventually found some on a French website called My Origines. Obviously paid over the odds, as you have to pay vat, but it arrived quite quickly and also came with some samples, and mascara and serum from Lancome.

I am off to France soon but only travelling with hand luggage so will only be able to buy from duty free. Or not.

dolphinsarentcommon · 29/07/2022 20:14

@simbobs yes definitely discontinued... just as I'd found it 🙄. I bought mine from Perfumes Club but they don't have any anymore.. although they do have the O D'Azur. Does anyone know anything about that one?

simbobs · 29/07/2022 20:46

@dolphinsarentcommon they brought out 2 new variants, of which that was one. I had that one last time but wished I had gone for the original. I did get a big bottle from the French site so it should last a while.

FestivelyScent · 29/07/2022 22:36

SOTD is Miss Dior Originale.

can i ask how people know that the scent isn't lasting on you and how you tell the difference between that and nose blindness?

Alienbigcat45 · 30/07/2022 00:03

godmum56 I often wonder that too and how people could judge sillage. Then I tried White Diamonds and never have I been so aware of a perfume Shock

I think it's down to skin type.
My skin just slurps up scent...its borderline normal/oily. I'm lucky if any scent lasts longer than 3 hours. (Exceptions being obsession, opium, 4160tuesdays shazam, 4160tuesdays fluffy lemon top and au coeur du desert) and some only last 20/30 minutes.
I avoid colognes for this reason. Too weak.
I think scent lasts much longer on those with dry or more mature skin.
No idea what my sotd will be. I'm currently in bed sipping coffee ☕️

CorneliaStreet · 30/07/2022 11:07

I’ve got the same sort of skin and scent doesn’t last on me either, maybe three or four hours at best. I see this as an opportunity to wear two or three different perfumes in a day 🙂

The only exception is Gallivant Tel Aviv, which lasts for a good eight hours.

SOTD is something light today as I have a hangover - JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt.

Good question! Your nose gets used to smells quickly, but if there’s a change then you’ll be able to smell it again. For example, when I spray it around my neck and stay still, then I stop being able to smell it after a short time. But when there’s a breeze that wafts it around, I can smell it again. Or if I spray it on my wrists only, I’ll be able to smell it every time my arms move around. For this reason I don’t tend to apply perfume close to my face, but prefer it on my wrists or scarves.

Chevyimpala67 · 30/07/2022 12:41

Sotd ck contradiction
Loving this 😍

simbobs · 30/07/2022 13:27

Sotd - Pure Grace Nude Rose. I'm trying to empty a few bottles and this is close to finished.

FestivelyScent · 30/07/2022 13:45

My skin gulps down scent too; I also take advantage of this to apply two or three different perfumes per day! 😁 I try to avoid edts, as they might as well be colognes on me, but luckily the types of scent I favour - heavily spiced orientals, ambers, rich vanilla and woods, and thickly carpeted chypres - generally are among the longest lasting perfumes.

Skin chemistry is such an interesting topic. I genuinely think perfumes smell different on my wrists and arms to my neck, to the extent I actually don't like how perfumes smell on my wrist and never test spray there. I wear fragrance on my neck and can generally smell it throughout its wear time, more so if I'm moving around and there's a breeze.

I hardly ever spray more than three or four spritzes, and frequently apply less than that. If I overspray so that the only thing I can smell is perfume, my nose quickly gets tired, so that within half an hour I cannot smell it. I think this is nose blindness.

Also, if I wear the same fragrance more than two days in a row, I find I can't detect the notes as well, the perfume smells sort of 'blunted' - another case of nose blindness, I think. To avoid this I just wear a different scent every day! 😊

I do 2 sprays on wrist 2 on neck and that's it.

I do respray during the day and tend to change perfumes in the evening

Mrcpy · 30/07/2022 14:28

For those who respray during the day, do you carry a bottle around with you, or a decant, or do you mainly wfh?

I have a little travel atomiser which is nice and I'm wondering if I should get one for each fragrance…

chilliesandspices · 30/07/2022 14:32

SOTD is Aqua Allegoria Bergamote Calabria by Guerlain. It's a sample from last months blind trial by Escentual.

It's citrusy with ginger, cardamom and woody notes. It's inoffensive but not something I'd seek out. It's also very short lived. Still, it's not terrible so it would be a shame to leave it languishing in a drawer.

I have a couple of purse sprays in my bag
Samples are handy for this too

Nooooooooo!!!!!
Why????

Because it is the only decent fragrance they do!!

The rest are very watery nothings! When I think how lovely their perfumes were in the 70's!!!
