Wasn't it lovely. The farmers with the tractors lined up really touched me! There were so many people just making the effort to go out and pay their respects which I think says a lot about HM.

How wonderful to view the cortège. It would be breathtaking and devastating I'm sure.

As an aside there's a link to a full on tiara event for Daisy here

NiqueNique · 11/09/2022 19:57

Ah thanks @Paradying I had missed those.

MotherofPearl · 11/09/2022 20:03

I watched some of the cortège on TV and also found it very moving, especially Princess Anne's deep curtesy to her mother's coffin as it was carried in.

Thanks for that link para. Aren't Queen Silvia's amethysts splendid?

chesterelly1 · 11/09/2022 20:10

It was a bit surreal, a lot of chat while we were waiting and cars tooting. A whole convoy of police in minibuses all waved (we were on a footbridge above the M90). I assume the police were maybe in Aberdeen then got scooped up, overtook while the cortège was stopped and re-located to Edinburgh to finish their shift. We heard the helicopters first and everything else fell silent until they had passed by then some applause. I was quite surprised they came by road, it must have been arduous for Anne. If I recall correctly she insisted on joining the grandsons in the vigil for the Queen Mother.

MotherofPearl · 11/09/2022 20:17

It's interesting to hear accounts from those who were there today. Thanks chester.

I had hoped to travel to London for the lying in state but reading about the queues and potential travel chaos, I feel a bit daunted. I am going to decide tomorrow I think. I'm in the NW so it's a bit of a trek, especially with the current situation with the trains.

Eaumyword · 11/09/2022 20:49

The amethysts are indeed beautiful. I love their rich colour.

CliffsofMohair · 11/09/2022 23:12

I love reading that account of their time in ‘HMS Bubble’. Such affection and care for HMQE(ii).

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2022 11:17

Camilla looked suitably sombre yet elegant in her black dress and pearls at Parliament today.

Camilla did look very elegant today.

I am slightly curious as to the amount of work that must be going on behind the scenes to support the RF with their wardrobes for this period of mourning. There must be a team that are tirelessly moving clothes, accessories (and black tights) across the country, particularly given the number of different engagements in different places all requiring different black outfits.

N0tfinished · 12/09/2022 14:34

@RomainingCalm I was thinking the same thing! They must keep these black outfits in their wardrobes constantly. There seem to be multiple appearances for them, so they'll need multiple outfits - especially Camilla. I thought Catherine's hem length yesterday was more reminiscent of what she wore about 4/5 years ago... she generally wears her hems longer in recent years. Are they all rushing through new coat dresses with their favorite designers? Although the core members have worn black annually at Remembrance Day. The behind the scenes organization fascinates me...

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2022 14:51

Well we know that after ten Remembrance Sundays, Kate is not short of a black coat! Then again I'm not sure the weather in London at this time of year requires a coat.

Maireas · 12/09/2022 14:54

I always have a funeral outfit in my wardrobe. More than one, depending on the season. Sadly at my age, they're getting use.
Well, the good Edinburgh folk are being very respectful, as of course we knew.

There were a lot of bags being taken off the plane when they got to Edinburgh! I think they have different coloured labels to help identify what's what!

I'm sure it's a dilemma for Harry and Meghan as well as to whether to bring the kids over or not. Two weeks is a long time not to see them.

iknowimcoming · 12/09/2022 15:45

I've been wondering if any of the RF wear earpieces during the processions so that they know when and where to stop, stand etc? I'd never remember it all!

meateatingveggie · 12/09/2022 16:15

I'm sure we've see Camilla in that hat before, probably at a Remembrance Day.

Can anyone see what necklace she's wearing?

NiqueNique · 12/09/2022 16:33

Yes we’ve seen the hat before, I’m sure.

The thistle brooch is a lovely touch. Do we know its provenance? I think the Queen Consort has struck just the right note in all appearances thus far.

meateatingveggie · 12/09/2022 16:45

I think she's wearing pearls with a diamond clasp..one we've seen her wear before.

I agree, she's looking really appropriate and elegant

applestamper · 12/09/2022 17:53

Interesting discussion on the black dresses. I thought it was interesting how Catherine's dress on the walkabout fitted her so perfectly, and Meghan's didn't; that's not a dig at Meghan at all, but an interesting insight into the difference in having the royal machine in operation behind one and not the other.

I thought both women looked smart and appropriate. Meghan's dress fitted fine.

I doubt Meghan packed anything black when she left America. She must be desperately trying to find things..

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/09/2022 18:15

I don't understand people commenting that Meghan's dress didn't fit well. It looked fine to me. Like her wedding dress, I don't think it was meant to be closely form fitting.

gluenotsoup · 12/09/2022 18:30

I have to say, Charles is looking very regal. His tailoring and attention to detail with the fit, trim on the morning suits, pocket squares are all perfect. Camilla, again very elegant. I saw some today though of Anne and Sophie, and they both look exhausted and just devastated. I read that Anne hasn’t left her mother’s side since she passed away, and intends to take part in the vigil of the princes. I am not surprised at all, her stoicism and strength are remarkable.

LadyEloise1 · 12/09/2022 18:32

I too thought Kate and Megan dressed very fittingly for the walkabout.
I particularly loved Kate's dress on her.

Did no one else notice Mathilde's shoes at the Belgian wedding ? 😮

gluenotsoup · 12/09/2022 19:04

No…
going to find a pic
