Or "RIP to the Queen and her stylish regime"?

Love it.

so many happy memories of the Queen’s visit to Ireland in 2011.

LadyEloise1 · 13/09/2022 13:14

@CliffsofMohair
Her dress and crown at the banquet in her honour at Dublin Castle, where she spoke Irish, were stunning.
The photo with the Cork fishmonger, after being told the ugly monkfish is called "mother in law" fish in Cork, where she is laughing is iconic
If someone could post a photo I'd be much obliged. I'm a technophobe.

Camilla has a very pretty shamrock brooch on today for the visit to NI. I did wonder about emeralds for a touch of green, but the brooch is probably less ostentatious

Lily of the Valley, a namesake almost, a favourite flower

I've read that Philip often called her "Lil" short for Lilibet.

The poem repeats the acrostic as well "Elizabeth x 2." Speaking of which, I noticed that in St. Giles and in the Scottish Parliament, there were no references to a regnal number, in recognition of the fact that in Scotland she was the one and only Elizabeth.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 14:26

@LadyEloise1 as requested.

Do you know, I hadn’t though that Elizabeth x2 also reflects that HM was Queen Elizabeth II!

LadyEloise1 · 13/09/2022 14:34

Ah, thank you @NiqueNique and @HoollyWugger Flowers

LadyEloise1 · 13/09/2022 14:35

The photo with Seamus Heaney doesn't do justice to the diamonds in the tiara and the diamanté in the dress. On tv they sparkled and twinkled.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 14:40

Yes I did think it must have looked spectacular in person, and in movement under lights. I’ve tried to find some more to show its beauty a bit better.

I love Camilla's brooch ☘️

LadyEloise1 · 13/09/2022 15:44

Thank you @NiqueNique
It glittered and sparkled amazingly under the tv lights.
It will probably be shown again as it was a very significant moment in British / Irish relations.
That whole trip was momentous historically. Not just because of the visit but what the Queen said on her visit.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 15:50

I will look it up, I’m sure there are videos on YouTube. I’m very interested to hear the Queen speaking Irish.

Can any of you lovely Royal experts help me understand Royal ranking, as I assume that differs from line of succession? So Charles and then Camilla first? And then William? Where does Anne, Princess Royal fit - she is obviously must lower in the line of succession but surely she ranks higher than Princess Charlotte, for example? Can you help me understand? Thank you!

Maireas · 13/09/2022 18:07

@TheSoundOfMucus - After Charles: William, George, Charlotte, Louis; Harry, Archie, Lilibet ; Andrew, Beatrice, Sienna, Eugenie, August; Edward, James, Louise; Anne, Peter, Savannah, Isla, Zara, Mia, Lena, Lucas....
Then it goes on to Snowdon and his family, and his sister's. Then the Gloucesters then the Kents. I think there may be a tree on the Royal Family website?

Heir to the throne is first. Then when they have children their firstborn comes next highest and then whey they have children they come higher than others.

So Charles had children it knocked his siblings down the line and then Willian had children and his kids knocked everyone down a place as well.

hopeishere · 13/09/2022 18:10

But I'd we now you are asking about rank not succession. I think it's complicated!! I did see a thing once about who curtsies to who and how it depends on whether or not their husbands are there!!

TheSoundOfMucus · 13/09/2022 18:37

It is a bit complicated isn’t it? But it still appears that Charlotte outranks Anne? Or have I misunderstood?

Yes, she does outrank her great aunt

Don't get too excited as I think it was a mere sentence.
But it meant a lot because the Irish were not allowed speak the Irish language, be taught it in schools etc for many years.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 18:50

I was only expecting a few sentences. But it was a hugely symbolic gesture as you say and I love anything like that with historic significance, so I’m very interested.

That picture is still in the English Market. She made the fishmonger famous

TheGander · 13/09/2022 20:09

She said “my ladies and gentlemen” in Irish.

The photo with Seamus Heaney doesn't do justice to the diamonds in the tiara and the diamanté in the dress. On tv they sparkled and twinkled.

There was apparently much diplomatic concern over whether or not we (Irish people) should curtsy when meeting HM or if a handshake was more appropriate. In the end people were charmed by her. She was so warm and respectful. Her outfits were as beautiful as they were symbolic.
