I loved William's written tribute earlier, it captured the moment perfectly. It must be incredibly difficult for them having to keep going when their hearts must be breaking.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:32

❤️❤️❤️ Our Daisy.

I am always so proud of my Queen. I, too, found her letter of condolences very heartfelt, affectionate and warm. All celebrations relating to Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee that was reached in January this year were cancelled due to the pandemic and had been postponed til September. In light of HM’s death the celebrations have now been markedly scaled back, but some events are going ahead as planned with adaptations.

I remember the lovely comments she made about Queen Elizabeth in connection with the Platinum Jubilee (seems so long ago now, and so much has changed since then...).

I posted at the time but will re-post here:

I still think Charles when I see "the Prince of Wales said..." and then have to remind myself it's William. Oh well, I guess we'll get used to it!

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 21:34

I'm always astounded by Daisy's cut-glass accent. If I didn't know better I'd think she was an English aristocrat!

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:35

@KillingMeDeftly I’m making a concerted effort to use the new and correct terms and titles every single time so that I can train my brain more quickly. It already feels much more natural. I said on another thread that I’ll probably have the most trouble with the National Anthem.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 21:35

(Is she now the world's current longest-reigning monarch?)

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:35

Oh, is the video not working?

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:36

No I think it’s the King of Bhutan, if I’m not mistaken. However, Margrethe is the only Queen Regnant.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:38

No that can’t be right! Will have to look it up.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 21:38

@NiqueNique I don't think it's the King of Bhutan - he's only in his early 40s.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 21:39

Ah, it's the Sultan of Brunei!

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 21:40

Heh yes that was just me being very silly and getting mixed up!

Gooseysgirl · 10/09/2022 22:08

Here's a link to the Belgian Royal Wedding with some really fun outfits! Check out Delphine's shoes, Astrid's feathers, and some jaunty hats from Mathilde et al. And of course stunning bride - just gorgeous!

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 23:16

While on NMR I also spotted what I thought was a visit by Princess Caroline and GDMT to a waxwork
museum but no, that's just Sheikha Moza! She actually looks like some sort of Barbie doll now.

There are some lovely pics of the King of Bhutan with his family giving offerings for HM. I'll never to able to find them now

Firstly deepest condolences to the British Mumsnetters on this thread on the death of their beloved Queen Elizabeth.
I am in awe at the pomp and ceremony following her death.
Such fitting tributes to a great monarch.
Her trip to Ireland back in 2011 was a momentous occasion.
I heard yesterday that the green trim on her outfit worn at our Garden of Remembrance on that trip was the exact same colour green as the uniform of the Irish Army. And so it was.
Such attention to detail.

It was lovely to see William, Harry, Kate and Megan together.
Kate's dress was beautiful.

Did anyone else notice Mathilde's funky shoes at the Belgian wedding ?

I remember the Queen Mother's grandsons standing vigil all night over her coffin but that was 20 years ago and none of them are getting any younger! Maybe HMQ's grandchildren will do it instead.

They are doing three shifts, the four children of HM The Queen, then the eight grandchildren. So there will be princesses too, Anne insisted. I bet she wears military uniform too 😍

I wonder what will happen to her jewellery collection. I imagine she will have specified where some goes, and some belongs to the crown, but there is so much of it.

As other have said, it seems unlikely we will see some of it. Such a shame.

I think we will see plenty of jewellery, Camilla seems to enjoy jewellery and suits it too. The jewels owned by the crown or passed to Charles are likely to be worn, and seen just as much if not more. As for the rest I suppose it depends who she passed it to.

I did think the King's morning suit at the Proclamation was beautiful.

Wasn't it? The velvet (?) edging and the handkerchief were lovely touches. It will be odd seeing suits where we are used to seeing brightly coloured coats dresses and hats but perhaps Charles will keep us entertained with some flamboyant touches.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/09/2022 00:54

I was hoping it might get Camilla out of the cream/ivory/duck egg blue, but I suppose Charles has to be more visible.

We did this for my sister the night before her funeral. There were quite a few of us including cousins who split the 24hr vigil between us. Most of us had our prayers books and prayer beads with us, I'm forever grateful to everyone who stayed up with me.

Here you go @paradyning . (I remembered that the lamps they were lighting are called butterlamps, which made googling it easier!)

I wonder when the King(!) will have his coronation? My guess is around the second May bank holiday next year and we'll get an extra day like we have for past Jubilees.

Yes I've been wondering that too, and also when the investiture of the Prince of Wales will take place. I'm hopeful that these will be events where we see a lot of jewels?

KillingMeDeftly · 11/09/2022 08:59

I've heard Charles wants a more low-key coronation but we know they have the bling in the vaults so they may as well get it out and give us something to look at. It's not like he'll purchase a brand new golden carriage for the occasion and Camilla will go to town in Garrard!
