I agree with you about Anne. There was a lovely moment when Sophie gently touched her arm and said something to her, probably a word of comfort. It's an ordeal, isn't it.
The King has a very good tailor! I think they all look smart.

My money is on a black McQueen fit Kate. And more black Suzannah for Sophie. I think both her Edinburgh dresses have been Suzannah. Yesterday's looked like the short sleeve version of what she wore to PP's funeral. And today's had the same neckline.

chesterelly1 · 12/09/2022 20:03

I know we often feel the automatic reach for tartan when this side of the border is too much but I think King Charles wearing his kilt now is absolutely spot on. He's never worn it better and the white Heather buttonhole is a lovely detail.

gluenotsoup · 12/09/2022 20:14

Its nice to know you think that @chesterelly1, from a Scottish stylista point of view
So… I did think the vigil of the princes lasted a bit longer than that …😳but Anne was still the first princess to take part

Eaumyword · 12/09/2022 20:15

I thought both Kate and Meghan looked fabulous on the walkabout. Kate's dress was a fitted shift style, whereas Meghan's looked more fit and flare.
Anyone with multiple millions doesn't have to worry about searching for a black dress&tights etc.
I imagine your PA just rings the personal shopper at Harvey Nics and gives your size and your PA pops out and collect the selection. Then you just return what you don't wear 🤷‍♂️
Disclaimer: I wouldn't actually know😂!

I have to say, Charles is looking very regal. His tailoring and attention to detail with the fit, trim on the morning suits, pocket squares are all perfect. Camilla, again very elegant. I saw some today though of Anne and Sophie, and they both look exhausted and just devastated. I read that Anne hasn’t left her mother’s side since she passed away, and intends to take part in the vigil of the princes. I am not surprised at all, her stoicism and strength are remarkable.

I agree that Charles looks exceptionally regal. I think we've always said on here that is clothes are impeccable. I also totally agree about Princess Anne. Her fortitude is really impressive.

MotherofPearl · 12/09/2022 20:46

Charlene and Albert have attended a commemorative service for HMQ, along with the British ambassador to France and Monaco. I'm afraid I am not a fan of asymmetrical hemlines so Charlene's dress is not for me, but she looks pretty otherwise.

No, I don’t like that much either

Maireas · 12/09/2022 20:52

I'm glad she's looking better now.

I didn't know that the boys stood vigil when Diana was laid in state and that Anne was with them bless her

susiebluebell · 12/09/2022 20:56

And Princess Elisabeth of Belgium went to sign the book of condolences at the Ambassador's residence.

I love how understated and yet picture-perfect this look is. The ruffle on the dress 😍 The only thing I would change is the stilettos (I think I'm just dead set against them now) but a more interesting or attention-grabbing shoe might not have been appropriate.

What's another very formal shoe for women that could work in these situations? My mind's gone blank.

Charlene reminds me of her fellow South African Charlize Theron these days.

MotherofPearl · 12/09/2022 21:16

@susiebluebell I tend to opt for a block heel for smart wear. I especially like suede block heels (Hobbs is good for these).

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/09/2022 23:52

@Maireas have you had any ideas for the next thread title?
Something that honours the late HMQ?
Writing that brings a lump to my throat.
I still can't get my head round the fact that she's gone especially as we saw her only 2 days before.
I keep expecting HMQ to get out of one of the cars & bow to the coffin or be in a car following the funeral cortège.
I hope that doesn't sound ghoulish but it's so surreal.

StartupRepair · 13/09/2022 03:17

Yes agree I keep being shocked that it really has happened.
And I have been wondering about the supply of black dresses. Does Liz Truss have to wear one every day too?
Maybe a title like 96 years an icon?

KillingMeDeftly · 13/09/2022 05:29

How about "God save the queen and her stylish regime"?

KillingMeDeftly · 13/09/2022 05:38

Or "RIP to the Queen and her stylish regime"?

Or "RIP to the Queen and her stylish regime"?

I like this one.

FionaMacCool · 13/09/2022 09:25

Popping in to wish condolences to all the British MNers. So many lump-in-throat- moments- in Ireland, we have fond memories of her 2011 visit, her grace and strength.

I like this one -> "God save the queen and her stylish regime".

Another poem (this one by the Poet Laureate. And lovely it is, too)

Floral Tribute by Simon Armitage:

"Evening will come, however determined the late afternoon,

Limes and oaks in their last green flush, pearled in September mist.

I have conjured a lily to light these hours, a token of thanks,

Zones and auras of soft glare framing the brilliant globes.

A promise made and kept for life - that was your gift -

Because of which, here is a gift in return, glovewort to some,

Each shining bonnet guarded by stern lance-like leaves.

The country loaded its whole self into your slender hands,

Hands that can rest, now, relieved of a century's weight.

Evening has come. Rain on the black lochs and dark Munros.

Lily of the Valley, a namesake almost, a favourite flower

Interlaced with your famous bouquets, the restrained

Zeal and forceful grace of its lanterns, each inflorescence

A silent bell disguising a singular voice. A blurred new day

Breaks uncrowned on remote peaks and public parks, and

Everything turns on these luminous petals and deep roots,

This lily that thrives between spire and tree, whose brightness

Holds and glows beyond the life and border of its bloom."

It references one of the late Queen’s favourite flowers, the lily of the valley.
Simon said he wanted to write a personal tribute without being intrusive. He also chose to make it an acrostic - as the Queen wouldn’t have heard her name spoken on its own in public life.

KillingMeDeftly · 13/09/2022 09:52

And that's why he's Poet Laureate and Facebook Poem Person is not!

Serenster · 13/09/2022 10:02

Oh I like that very much - how clever it’s an acrostic!

A blurred new day
Breaks uncrowned on remote peaks and public parks

luminous petals and deep roots

Both these lines/phrases are genius!

susiebluebell · 13/09/2022 10:07

@MotherofPearl Yes, block heels are a good shout!

@NiqueNique I really like that poem too. 'Rain on the black lochs and dark Munros'... Wow.

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 10:14

Yes, it’s a truly wonderful piece of art!

NiqueNique · 13/09/2022 11:07

I thought Meghan’s shoes at the walkabout were lovely.

The heel had a little more interest which I always like, but it wasn’t so out there as to give any opportunity to the press to make it all about her.
