Just caught the "What Looks Frumpy Dated" thread and it is so broad, perhaps someone can tell me, coming up 42, what in hell I should be wearing!

I'm gutted skinnies have gone. I've hung onto a couple of pairs of mine. I'm 5ft and everything else makes me look truly awful

Just wear them. I bought 2 new pairs the other day in Mango. They had mom, flares and relaxed fit as well as skinny, push up (bum an tum) straight and cutoffs. I don't think skinnys are going anywhere.

They’ve only gone on mumsnet…someone on here clearly decided they were passe and it’s been parroted ever since.

I teach and all my students were skinnies still, including the Uber cool and gorgeous 18 year olds so I wouldn’t worry too much

hatchyu · 03/07/2022 10:43

It's likely skinnies will be uber hip again since it's all about the 00s/10s. Maybe summer 23

Sunnytwobridges · 03/07/2022 11:10

At first that thread made me feel bad and old (I’m 51). But now I don’t care, I’m wearing my knee high boots with my pants tucked in with one of my colorful cardigans 😂

Maireas · 03/07/2022 11:14

Lots of skinny jeans worn by my sixth formers as well, so they can't be that passé!

hatinacat · 03/07/2022 11:19

I have no idea.

I went to a party a short while ago and every single woman my age was wearing white trainers with floral dresses. I was probably the only person dressed differently.

Don't be a sheep is my advice.

LetsGoDoDoDo · 03/07/2022 11:23

Im another who gavd up skinnies! I now wear the Whistles barrel leg jeans, which I find really flattering. Having lived in skinny jeans for over a decade I was reluctant to change my style but honestly, this one simple switch has refreshed my whole look and I feel better for it. I do have four pairs of skinnies lovingly stored away in the back of my wardrobe though as I suspect it won't be long before they are back on trend.

As pp mentioned, fashion is fickle! 😂

I've read that the white vest top will be a huge trend for AW... I feel cold just thinking about it!

As an alternative to cardigans, a linen shirt can look lovely and is practical. Also, bomber jackets are making a come back. There's a load on eBay for those interested in a bargain! I found a virtually new one from Rodebjer for around £35 that I will likely wear until it falls apart 😊

Lovely 🙂

Maireas · 03/07/2022 14:51

@JaceLancs - I like jewellery too!
How much is too much? I like the ring on your middle finger, it's really pretty.

BasiliskStare · 03/07/2022 14:53

Sitting here in M&S Jeggings Grin - v comfy & I think OK . There Is a lovely charity which a friend of mine went to who take in clothing and give it to women who are applying for a job but cannot afford a new outfit for the interview . I cannot remember the name of it but it was a great thing. Some of the clothes were several years old - but as my friend gratefully said - classic will probably be classic. I realise not the point of the thread.

Maireas · 03/07/2022 14:57

Ooooh! I'm wearing M&S jeggings too, @BasiliskStare! So comfy. What colour?

BasiliskStare · 03/07/2022 15:27

@Maireas Ha ha - Today white as we had some sun . with a navy shirt . I also have navy blue and black - quite forgiving with a decent top half but doesn't look like you are going out in your pyjamas - they can pass as jeans to a blind man on a galloping horse Grin.

RampantIvy · 03/07/2022 15:31

My friend wore skinny jeans and leopard print heels yesterday, and looked fabulous.

JaceLancs · 03/07/2022 16:03

@Maireas
Thank you!
I always wear a necklace and earrings
bracelet on one wrist and watch and bangles on other
rings as shown on left hand - although I do swap the middle finger ring to match either clothes or nails
right hand

Well, what SHOULD we be wearing?!
Maireas · 03/07/2022 16:18

Your opals are nice.
I wear a necklace, earrings and bracelets every day!.

Bunty55 · 03/07/2022 16:24

If you walk away from your computer and leave your house for a bit you will see what people are wearing and believe me there are bad clothes days as well as bad hair days played out for all to see.
I have to admit to some good days and really dire ones with my appearance but I will be buggered if I let MN dictate to me what I should and should not be wearing :)

mathanxiety · 03/07/2022 18:38

@FarFarFarAndAway
@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Agree with both of your posts. This is basically where I shop and how I dress.

AbreathofFrenchair · 03/07/2022 19:23

Wear whatever suits you and fits your style.

Just because something is deemed on trend and fashionable, doesn't mean it suits everyone who wears it nor that it should be worn.

People always look better when they dress in what suits them rather than what they are told should be being worn.

People on here hate crocs, I love mine!

sunglassesonthetable · 03/07/2022 19:37

See so many youngsters wearing them. Son's girlfriend was wearing a baby blue pair to match her short painted nails on holiday. Looked fab.

Deathraystare · 07/07/2022 17:34

I can’t really give fashion advice (since I look like an over stuffed bin bag during a 4 week bin men strike during the Winter of Discontent in the 70s, with half of my stuffing scattered along the pavement by a fox**

Well, that is a look! Mine is similar. Homeless bag lady look (not making light of homelessness. I was for two weeks! NOT fun) and your Nan won't be happy cos I sometimes forget to brush my hair!!!
