Meghan's coat-dress

I saw a clip of the royals arriving at St Pauls yesterday and really liked Meghans coat dress. I was curious about this type of garment though - would she be wearing a dress underneath or did the coat remain on and fully buttoned all day?

I thought it was just a coat, rather than a coat dress.
At 4:31 as she is walking down the step her coat blows a bit and she has a dress on underneath.

HelpIneedsomebodywontyouplease · 04/06/2022 13:57

She looked lovely I thought.

HumptyDumpty2022 · 04/06/2022 13:58

It was lovely and was Dior.
I think she had a dress under it.

Amrapaali · 04/06/2022 14:00

Was there some sort of memo sent out? Many of the female royals had something similar. Not coat dresses but structured midi dresses with belts (and buckle!) in the same colour. They all looked nice

LovelaceBiggWither · 04/06/2022 14:02

I was not a fan of Zara's hat and dress together. Either of them separately would have looked fine but the combo was a bit much of a clash.

CraftyGin · 04/06/2022 14:08

Unfortunately, I don't think Meghan's dress fitted her very well. The storm flap should not have billowed so much, implying that it did not fit well across the shoulders. Meghan likes to wear belts, but I don't think this really does her justice.

Not that I know, as I would be mutton dressed as lamb in anything.

I was surprised by Eugenie's orange dress - it looked so ordinary. The others were brilliant. Princess Beatrice has come so far and found her style.

It look good on Mike Tyndall - matched his tie.

starrynight21 · 04/06/2022 14:11

So bland ! I didn't like it at all - just ivory from head to foot.

HotWashCycle · 04/06/2022 14:29

I thought it was a poor fit on her, especially the waist. Is she pregnant? She looked the other day as though she might have a bump.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 14:39

It was a beautiful outfit, classic and elegant, and would have been perfect had it fitted her perfectly. Buying haute couture Dior and then not having it altered to sit well makes me 😭😭😭but maybe it was gifted to her or loaned.

She looked gorgeous but it’s just such a shame that it didn’t sit right.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 14:40

Oh and it definitely wasn’t a coat dress; it was a trench coat worn over an outfit.

nipersvest · 04/06/2022 14:45

I assume she had a dress underneath, there were funny bulges across the chest area, but the coat was too small for her, terrible fit. Fine from the waist down but waist up it looked 2 sizes too small.

queenofarles · 04/06/2022 15:29

If you look closely there is something under, a sort of collar peaking.
I personally loved the colour it’s Greige , but the fit was wrong, it seems too tight on the top.
such a shame as it’s a couture dress, the fit should be flawless.

Not at all keen on meghans Dior number, made her look very squashed in the middle. Very mediocre.

Arnaquer · 04/06/2022 15:40

I was wondering this as all the women had similar coat/ dress styles. I thought they all looked lovely but I loved Eugenie's orange dress.
I also ( begrudgingly) liked Carrie Johnson's red dress.

LaBellina · 04/06/2022 15:41

I loved Meghan’s outfit, very different from what she usual wears (this outfit is very classic, almost like the 1950’s Dior New Look and Meghan usually chooses more modern designs). It looked quite heavy so I think she might have worn it alone.

MiniTheMinx · 04/06/2022 15:42

I thought Princess Anne looked lovely.

Meghan Markle always dresses well but I thought the floppy hat was a mistake, it was too unstructured for such a formal coat. I loved the colour of Princess Eugenie's dress and the cheeky cut-out at the back. The sling back shoes worn by Princess Eugenie and Carrie were rather glamorous.

starlingdarling · 04/06/2022 16:50

Oh I loved her hat. Agree the coat looked a little too tight but she still looked better than I do on my best day so feels mean to say.

Viviennemary · 04/06/2022 16:51

It was OK. Beatrice and Eugenie ok but nothing special. Zara's was awful. Mike Tindall made a funny joke about it. I think Kate's was the nicest. She is so elegant.

Gosh I loved the combination of the bright pink and the lavender lilac hat.
Different tastes. And that's fine.

Badger1970 · 04/06/2022 16:59

Coat dresses only work when they're well tailored. Otherwise the wearer looks awkward. Which Meghan did.

I just don't know why she doesn't get a decent stylist on board. She's got an amazing figure, she just doesn't make the best of it.

thefirstfortyeight · 04/06/2022 17:01

@LadyEloise1 I absolutely loved the combination too! I thought Zara looked amazing.
