Meghan's coat-dress

I saw a clip of the royals arriving at St Pauls yesterday and really liked Meghans coat dress. I was curious about this type of garment though - would she be wearing a dress underneath or did the coat remain on and fully buttoned all day?

I thought Louise's was a little bit nightie-ish.

I liked what Sophie Winkleman was wearing. And thought Beatrice's dress was nice as well.

I don’t know why Louise always wears stuff that looks like she’s borrowed it from her maiden Aunt thirty years older. Poor girl. Why doesn’t Sophie take her shopping and get her a decent wardrobe? I hated that thing on her head too.

KittyMcKitty · 04/06/2022 21:17

Yes of course but you don’t have to be speeding to be seriously injured in a car accident and honestly if it would have saved your mothers life wouldn’t you make 100% sure you always wore a seatbelt?

anyway distracting from the issue of the fact that dior should be ashamed by the poor fit of the coat. Meghan does struggle with the body length (shoulder to waist) length in clothes - the blue VB dress was similarly I’ll fitted and there have been others. With her money and resources it’s a shame as with properly fitted clothes she would look stunning.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 21:19

My mistake so I’m correcting it quickly! The driver was not drunk. Not a nice topic of conversation really...

As for safety, I think the security experts involved and the family themselves are probably better equipped to make those calls.

Maybe it's a dress/outfit that she chose herself & likes.

What's a "decent wardrobe" ffs?

It was suitable for the occasion imo.

Why is she a "poor girl"?

She only arrived in the U.K. very recently. Perhaps she didn’t have time to have it altered before the service? Or perhaps she hadn’t realised how cold it would be in the U.K. and ended up wearing something bulkier than originally intended underneath?

It's Dior.

It shouldn't have to be altered.

I just think she looks like her mother has dressed her, but you’re right. Perhaps she did choose it herself. She looked lovely at the concert tonight.

I think she's only young, maybe not interested in clothes/fashion, but on certain occasions has to appear in public.

I think it's awful that she gets ripped to shreds as the York sisters have always done.

pattish · 04/06/2022 21:52

I thought Meghan’s was really unflattering. Made her look very thick-waisted (I know she is a bit anyway, but this made it more obvious). And the hat was wrong.

Kate looked spot on, as she always does.

I really hope things have changed enough so Louise doesn’t experience the same cruelty wrt her looks and sense of style that the York sisters got as very young women.

It was a beautiful outfit, classic and elegant, and would have been perfect had it fitted her perfectly. Buying haute couture Dior and then not having it altered to sit well makes me 😭😭😭but maybe it was gifted to her or loaned.

She looked gorgeous but it’s just such a shame that it didn’t sit right.

The hat was wrong for the coat. The coat was like a trench coat and the lightweight feminine summer hat just didn't suit.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 22:15

I liked the hat. I’m quite fond of a little twist, and I thought it looked sculptural enough to make it okay.

diddl · 04/06/2022 22:24

I agree.

I mean why does having to appear in public mean that you must be dressed/look a certain way?

Surely being neat, tidy & appropriately dressed is enough?

BaconAndAvocado · 04/06/2022 22:33

I thought Zara and Kate’s outfits were gorgeous.
Kate has worn that style of hat before I think and it really suits her IMO.
Zara always looks beautiful and unstuffy for a royal.

JacquelineCarlyle · 04/06/2022 22:39

I completely agree @diddl although sadly I don't think they have.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 04/06/2022 22:46

Sophie and Bea were in the same dress, just different colours!

AngeloMysterioso · 04/06/2022 22:47

Meghan’s outfit just gave me Inspector Gadget vibes to be honest. Ill fitting and such a blah colour.

Kate looked lovely (as always) but a little bit on the safe side (as always).

Beatrice and Sophie W had the same dress in different colours. I thought they both looked pretty great. Beatrice really seems to be finding her groove now.

Zara and Eugenie- great that they take risks and go for punchy colours but why always the matronly neckline? It does nothing for either of them.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 04/06/2022 22:48

(Sophie Winkleman that is)

Starcatty · 04/06/2022 23:07

I thought Lady Louise looked lovely. I did feel for her walking down those stairs though- but she managed it far better than I ever could.

WonderWine · 05/06/2022 08:10

One or two conspiracy theory Reddit threads are buzzing with the theory that the reason Meghan’s outfit looked so awkward was because it was concealing a hidden mic & recording device! There are photos circulating which show like a third ‘nipple’ across her front when it stretched and claims that the reason it didn’t sit well at the back was due to a hidden battery pack etc.
I know it sounds mad, but weren’t they discreetly wired up for Netflix when they did their NYC trip?
I did think she was wearing too many layers for what was essentially a fairly warm day, and was also tugging at her collar a lot!

hamdden12 · 05/06/2022 08:19

I'm not a fan of Meghan but she always looks well dressed as do most of the royal family. I've seen lots of people saying it was a boring outfit but if she'd worn anything else she'd have been accused of trying to steal the limelight so she can't win really.

LilythePunk · 05/06/2022 08:19

Yes that could be the explanation. She was wearing ridiculous clothes for a warm day in NY.

I assumed that little lump was from her dress underneath. A button or something. I thought that it was just a poorly chosen dress underneath that made the coat look like it wasn't sitting quite right.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/06/2022 09:04

There are two lumps, one is a bit like a button underneath, the other one on the other side, it's rectangular, rich where the princess seams of the coat are.

Take a look at the Vogue photos.

Could she be wearing a bulletproof vest?

awaynboilyurheid · 05/06/2022 09:09

I never think Megan gets it quite right, it looked like it didn’t fit well over the bust area, like you could see she must have had a dress on under it pushing it out so it didn’t sit straight.

zafferana · 05/06/2022 09:30

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/06/2022 21:23

It's Dior.

It shouldn't have to be altered.

No, it would need to be altered to fit her exactly. She's not a 5'10" model who is a sample size 0 and every body is a slightly different size and shape. For something to fit perfectly for a public occasion it would need alteration.

As for 'she only arrived on Friday', I'm sure she has been fitted for and brought her entire wardrobe for the trip with her from California. They do have Dior there, you know.
