Meghan's coat-dress

LiverpoolFan83 · 04/06/2022 13:40

I saw a clip of the royals arriving at St Pauls yesterday and really liked Meghans coat dress. I was curious about this type of garment though - would she be wearing a dress underneath or did the coat remain on and fully buttoned all day?

Then perhaps you don’t understand how it was meant to sit?

Not being arsey at all, but really it was far too small. It would have sat quite differently had it been altered to fit her exactly right.

Is that comment to me? How do YOU know how it was meant to sit 😂 it was boxy in style 🤷‍♀️ think it was meant to look like that. If you don't like it fine but I much prefer it to Kate's look

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:10

No, it really was not meant to look like that. Anyone who knows about classic clothing and fit will tell you that. But I’m not going to argue about it with you. I liked the outfit a lot and I think Meghan looked gorgeous as usual. I liked Kate’s outfit a lot too and many others on the day. This isn’t some strange Kate vs. Meghan thing for me, but you do you.

meltypuff · 04/06/2022 19:11

Was meant to look like that so there

Lunificent · 04/06/2022 19:16

I imagine the colour was chosen very deliberately. The press would pretend she’s trying to outshine The Queen/the occasion/Kate if she wore colour. So a light greige would be the least likely to attract that sort of press commentary.

Frezia · 04/06/2022 19:16

I liked it. I mean it was a pretty boring coat dress but so what if she didn't look stick thin with a waspish waist? It made me like her more. She looked comfortable in her own body. I wish I had the confidence to wear something I liked even if people claimed it didn't work for my figure.

itsgettingweird · 04/06/2022 19:17

I thought she looked beautiful.

I wish I could pull something like that off.

She's one of these really annoying beautiful people who radiate beauty from angles.

I long for the day we discover she doesn't have a "good side" BlushGrin

queenofarles · 04/06/2022 19:19

I don’t think it’s boxy, it’s meant to be A-line but somehow the fabric keeps riding up over the belt when she walks.
maybe there was so little time for proper fittings?
But I think it’s really unacceptable for a big name like Dior to get it wrong and smaller brands like Emilia to always get it right.

Also don't really understand the you do you comment. I do what?

Ohnonevermind · 04/06/2022 19:22

@meltypuff

Trench coats are designed a certain way with the ‘storm flap lying flat. It would completely defeat the purpose if it stuck out so wind and rain could get under it

It also looked like there was a button under the collar at the front that kept popping (look at the videos) and she kept having to adjust it. If you’ve well tailored well fitting clothes on you don’t need to keep fiddling with them and buttons don’t keep popping.

ArtVandalay · 04/06/2022 19:22

I like that Meghan is fashionable, the rest of them are not. But, gorgeous as her coat was, I felt it didn't flatter her. She's very slim but it made her look thick around the middle.

Beatrice and Eugenie looked frightful as always. Kate looked perfect. But she has the most amazing figure and I'd love to see her dress less boringly.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:23

Oh I don’t care about having to be stick thin or always having to wear the most flattering styles, don’t wear a belt if you have a thick waist and other such bullshit - I don’t subscribe to all those rules borne of the tyranny of fashion. No problem at all with that side of things and absolutely no criticism of her figure, at all. But why, WHY wear Dior couture and not have it fit well? It should fit beautifully, with exquisite tailoring. Which is why I think it may be on loan - it doesn’t make sense for it not to sit properly.

If it has been perfectly fitted it would have been one of my favourite looks of the day, it’s right up my street. As I’ve said I still think she looked great but I think it’s a crying shame that it wasn’t on point with the tailoring.

Never mind, it’s only clothing!

I haven't a clue about clothes but thought it didn't look great. I definitely clocked the rear spoiler sitting wrongly. And I didn't think the hat went with it. I wonder would she be more comfortable carrying a bag, and have less need to hang onto Harry?

@meltypuff it’s just a crappy way of saying you keep holding your opinion, and I’ll hold mine. I don’t even know why I said it as I hate the phrase! Grin

meltypuff · 04/06/2022 19:26

Ok. It just looked perfect to me.. I like it swinging out at the back and the boxy look but I will admit defeat that I am clearly wrong!! Love fashion but clearly can't spot a bad fitting Dior BlushGrin

I saw Meghan's coat described as 'fashion forward', but I thought it was very unflattering and boxy. She has a lovely figure, but it was completely hidden and I thought it was very matronly. If she's trying not to outshine anyone, she's doing a great job.

Agree that Kate is very elegant and looked gorgeous in yellow. I loved Carrie Johnson's dress too.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:30

Well I think we should all have jubilee Cake and Brew or 🥂 and pretend we’re wearing perfectly fitted Dior frocks!

queenofarles · 04/06/2022 19:32

I have a Dior Bar jacket and skirt , not couture but it was brilliantly altered to my shape perfectly, by the lovely seamstress at the boutique , this is the kind of service you’d expect for £5k+ .
id expect nothing less for a couture piece either or else why pay more?

Daenerys77 · 04/06/2022 19:32

If it has to be a competition, I award the prize to the Duchess of Cornwall. But I did feel sorry for all those women tottering about in high heels on the steps.

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/06/2022 19:37

She's stunningly beautiful. I have a low opinion of her, but she is by far the best looking person in that family.

I thought they all looked amazing! Loved the dresses, hats, colours and men in matching coloured ties!
