Meghan's coat-dress

I saw a clip of the royals arriving at St Pauls yesterday and really liked Meghans coat dress. I was curious about this type of garment though - would she be wearing a dress underneath or did the coat remain on and fully buttoned all day?

I think it's just a coat. She looked beautiful and stylish as always

Ohnonevermind · 04/06/2022 19:40

i thought they all looked lovely.

Sophie Wessex’s wasn’t up to her usual high standard (I didn’t like the material - a more structured material like meghans Dior would have looked smarter. Again a little more structure in the top half of the orange dress worn by one one of the York girls as I could make out bra straps underneath, but the colour was gorgeous on her. Her sister looked lovely.

@Cherryblossoms85
nah, Kate and Meghan are about the same attractiveness, albeit very different features etc. I wouldn’t call either stunningly attractive. On an objective scale (ie if you asked 1000s of people who fancy women) they’d both be in the top 10%-20% for their age, but no higher than that.

diddl · 04/06/2022 19:43

I think it's one of the nicest outfits I've seen her in, although not necessarily the best shape for her figure.

But that shouldn't really matter should it?

Loved Kates's outfit & also Louise's dress.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:44

I’m still trying to figure out how it ended up not fitting. If it’s couture (as stated in the press although that might be wrong I guess) it should be made specifically for her. Do they do sample sizes that they let people use for publicity? No idea how it actually works at that level.

chunkymandarincoulis · 04/06/2022 19:50

This thread has just reminded me why I dislike both fashion and sleb gossip.

I thought Louise's was a little bit nightie-ish.

I liked what Sophie Winkleman was wearing. And thought Beatrice's dress was nice as well.

Do they do sample sizes that they let people use for publicity? No idea how it actually works at that level. they have samples of the runway looks, but this is not from the runway , it looks like something made specifically for her, you must remember models are tall and very thin, something like this wouldn’t fit her if it was a sample, I just think it was made in rush , under 3 weeks instead of the usually 2-3 months required for couture.

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2022 19:53

She’s stunning but looked like a trussed up Turkey in that coat.

And the York sisters need to adoot a V neck.

Ohnonevermind · 04/06/2022 19:54

I remember when Meghan wore a green linen dress when Archie was a baby to a polo match. I thought she looked lovely.

But surely the more quickly it was made the more likely it would be to fit well - they would have her current measurements and not much time for losing/gaining weight in the interim and having to have it altered at fittings. Unless it was made some long time ago I guess? If they made that specifically for her very recently then Dior have really let themselves down IMO!

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:58

@queenofarles i thought maybe they would have have sample sizes for normal people Grin but if it’s not a runway piece then that wouldn’t apply anyway.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 19:59

@Ohnonevermind I really liked that dress and I thought she looked great that day!

Whippet · 04/06/2022 20:19

No comment on the dresses, but did anyone else notice that NONE of them put seat belts on after they got in the cars? Now I know they're probably just going a mile or so around the corner, but even so, in the aftermath of Diana I would've thought they'd be more safety conscious.

”Former royal protection officers have said sometimes a decision will be made based on a 'threat matrix' that it is safer for a member of the royal family not to wear a seatbelt - and they are also exempted under law from having to wear seatbelts during certain processional or ceremonial journeys.”

Really ? I’m not sure I believe that if I’m honest

SunflowerGardens · 04/06/2022 20:30

It's true, my dad didn't have to wear a seatbelt because he was at risk due to his job - it's so that you can quickly duck if someone shoots at you.

SunflowerGardens · 04/06/2022 20:31

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/06/2022 19:37

She's stunningly beautiful. I have a low opinion of her, but she is by far the best looking person in that family.

Yeah she is incredibly beautiful. I think she really suits the royal style too even though it should look frumpy, somehow she just looks effortlessly stunning.

cottagegardenflower · 04/06/2022 20:36

HotWashCycle · 04/06/2022 14:29

I thought it was a poor fit on her, especially the waist. Is she pregnant? She looked the other day as though she might have a bump.

She has a very square body shape with a minimal waist, so always has this square look. I think its why she always wears a belt with formal clothes. She looks much better in informal wear with a baggy shirt and jeans.

The coat was Dior so it should have looked much nicer, but still wasn't 'bad'. You normally wouldn't wear something under a coat dress as its supposed to be slimming.

EggRollsForever · 04/06/2022 20:37

I saw it described as lilac...however it was not flattering to her as she is thick waisted. I would have thought pregnant but didn't they say two is enough because of their commitment to the planet?

EggRollsForever · 04/06/2022 20:39

No but I did notice Meghan with the window down waving to everyone which is surprising considering all the fuss Harry has made about security and their desire for privacy.

daretodenim · 04/06/2022 20:50

I think there's something quite unique dressing for these events where cameras catch you from every angle, live, while you're doing something "normal". It's not a TV set where your angles are considered. It's not red carpet where you pose.

I think that as Brits we inherently get this about big RF events because it's something we've grown up seeing (from time to time) to some extent. But it's uniquely British I think. I don't think she has the same experience, and I don't think her stylist(s) do either. And that impacts her choices. It's more like walking a runway where ever my clothing imperfection will be noticed. And I reckon the RF go for slightly boring because it's actually easier!

I can also imagine looking in the mirror seeing the collar framing her face and the hat finishing the frame and thinking it looks a certain way. Like in a portrait shot. Possibly for a high fashion magazine. But that's irrelevant in a RF official event. There is a style of dressing for RF official events and not adhering to it, as boring as it is, is noticeable. It's almost like a box of style uniforms and then someone doesn't wear the uniform.

But ultimately I reckon she's trying - hard - to get it right. She was dressing to be respectful of the event, put quite some thought into it and and that deserves no criticism. Dior should be apologising for allowing her to be in something ill fitting of theirs. Perhaps next time they can step in - and why wouldn't they want to? She's an absolutely stunning woman with an amazing figure.

And I have absolutely no idea how she managed to wear such high heels! Hats off to her really. Honestly my feet hurt just watching her go down the marble aisle!

But the fact still remains that Diana would be alive if she’d had her seatbelt on.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 21:10

Yes but her driver was drunk and she wasn’t driving in a slow moving procession.

NiqueNique · 04/06/2022 21:11

Oh wait, was he? I can’t remember...
