I started menopause at age 42 which was a bit crap. I’ve been in HRT for a very long time. I have to argue each year to continue it. I would not cope without it. I also probably had endometriosis but never actually received official diagnosis from bastard gynaecologist. Everyone I know went private but we never had the money with 3 young kids sadly!

having such a nice weekend with DH away with DS and Percy on a big walk. They are all so noisy! It’s sunny again after horrendous rainy day. Hoping to sit outside with my book for a bit
jumper: knitted by me ( years ago)
tee under: Rae Feather last year part if pj set but far too good for bed!
jeans: hush
sandals: Birkenstock

Ah enjoy the peace and quiet @Sooverthemill

It is indeed a mulberry! It’s the Anthony and I was very lucky. I had the smaller one in oxblood and when I got poorly with covid and pneumonia as I am still on inhalers - my DH surprised me with the bigger one so I could fit all my stuff in it!

Lovely outfits @toastfiend

Will catch up properly later as I have a busy day! I hope the sun shines. ☀️

missfliss · 08/05/2022 11:59

Just popping on to say @EllaPaella and anyone else with menopause questions.

I went to newson clinic - couldn't be arsed with the whole GP battle - there is no mandatory menopause training for GPS so unless you are very lucky you may well get a very outmoded response.

Also there is no reliable blood test for perimenopause ( again a common GP issue) - by definition it's a period where your oestrogen and progesterone are fluctuating wildly- so any test will only give a snappy of one day. Peri menopause should be diagnosed on symptoms alone ( and in fact of you are over 45 most GPs won't even bother with blood tests)

OublietteBravo · 08/05/2022 12:40

I think I’m also in the perimenopause camp. It’s definitely getting harder to keep my weight stable, and having been pear shaped for as long as I can remember the weight is now going on round my middle rather than on my hips.

I didn’t get round to taking a photo yesterday. Today I’m starting off in a jumper and hoping to progress to a T-shirt. It’s sunny, but still rather cool - especially in the shade.

jumper: Boden
dungarees: Boden
trainers: M&S

What a gorgeous outfit @Davethecat2001

Don’t get me started on menopause, lol - feeling hot, sweaty, grumpy and generally out of sorts at the moment! It sucks. So a chilled Sunday is in order. Dog walk is the most I can manage today! Dress is ancient, from a Scandi designer that is no more - a shame as I love this piece. Long, cardi-of-doom from Silkfred, and socks-of-woe from Marks.

Love the outfit too @Davethecat2001 and sandals @toastfiend enjoy your chilled days @Purplecatshopaholic and @Sooverthemill

I'm 43 and don't think I'm showing any signs yet apart from weight around my middle but that could be that I move less and eat more 😉

No outfit today DS is Ill and I'm trying to tidy just put sealant and colouring balm on the leather sofa and chairs we inherited I definitely should have worn gloves!

Which shoes do I get? I need a pair for a 3 Day exhibition where I'll be on my feet all day and a few other formal events so will wear with skirts/dresses/cropped trousers. The chunky pair are probably more supportive but less flattering and had my eye on for a while.

are the events spring / summer @Sickoffamilydrama I used to love my Clark’s hamble oak brogues. They sometimes do in colours so worth looking on the outlet site etc.

I am not a fan of the chunky loafer ones.

toastfiend · 08/05/2022 20:15

Thanks @EllaPaella and @Softpebbles!

I always love those dungarees @OublietteBravo, they're great!

Personally, I'd go for the chunky loafers @sickoffamilydrama. I have a pair from Zara and I wear them loads. To me they look a bit more modern than the others, but depends which you like best and which you think will be more comfortable!

Hope everyone's had a lovely Sunday. Glorious weather here, we've had a brilliant day at my parents'.

Dress - Hobbs, via the preloved shop
Trainers - Philip Hogg

I popped to the same preloved shop near them to drop some clothes off and found this Temperly London dress for £45!! Really chuffed with my bargain, the embroidery on it is stunning and it's 100% silk so lovely and cool and comfortable.

That’s interesting @missfliss thank you. I’m 50 and not sure if I’m peri menopausal or menopausal! I’ve only had about 2 or 3 periods in the last 18 months or so. Should all women be taking HRT?

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/05/2022 00:17

I keep forgetting to take photos but I’m enjoying all your lovely outfits. Going to be a lovely week weather wise, I’m hoping to ditch the jeans and pull out my summer dresses.

Alwayspaintyournails · 09/05/2022 00:25

EllaPaella · 07/05/2022 17:21

Off out for tea in new Zara dress

@EllaPaella I was eyeing this up online… would you mind sharing how it is size wise?

Sooverthemill · 09/05/2022 08:25

Yesterday was nice but weather shitty! I would like some reliable warm weather. Old dog very unwell again and I think he needs meds but DH unhelpfully on a course all week so getting him there will be tricky. Hedgehog improving though. Yay. God I can’t believe I’m still looking after the kids animals

@toastfiend awesome find. Gorgeous
@Sickoffamilydrama i would go chunky loafers. More modern and will go with loads

so I’m hoping I will take off the sweatshirt soon
sweatshirt:Sézane
jeans: hush
sandals: Birkenstock ( it doesn’t feel warm enough fur any of my other styles yet)
tee:hush truly ancient 2016?

@bendmeoverbackwards interesting question.
I can't really answer it as I'm not a health professional - just an interested layman.

All I will say is:

  • the effects of oestrogen depletion are wide ranging, very single cell in your entire body has oestrogen receptors - so it's very far beyond something that only affects your reproductive organs.
  • there are many different HRT regimes, and just as the choice to take HRT is personal and individualized, the type of HRT is also personal and individualized
  • modern HRT is made to be body identical ( from Yams believe it or not) but it is recognised and metabolized much better than older types.
  • HRT can have protective health benefits. So far the only proven one is against osteoporosis. Areas currently being researched include dementia and heart disease

Thank you @missfliss I’ll look into it further. And lovely cardi! 👍

OublietteBravo · 09/05/2022 09:16

I have a week where all the senior people from my bit of the business are visiting my site. Which means office wear. I’m definitely out of practice when it comes to summer office wear - I just haven’t had to wear it (because I was WFH for summer 2020 and 2021).

Jumpsuit: The Fold
Shoes: Clarks

Oh that jumpsuit is divine @OublietteBravo. I have a Reiss one that colour, must dig it out. And loving your look today @missfliss , that cardi is lovely. Not taken a pic today as faffing about the house on a cheeky wee day off looking decidedly bag-lady-esque, lol.

PalacePaper · 09/05/2022 20:22

Hello! I used to be on these threads a while ago but haven't been on Mumsnet for a while. I've enjoyed catching up by binge-viewing all your lovely outfits!

Absolutely love the floriza skirt @Davethecat2001 and your charity shop dress find @KiteflyingKitty. @Sickoffamilydrama those black trousers are a great shape on you.

Today - jeans from M&S, t-shirt from mint velvet and trainers from new balance. Plus cardi from other stories when I popped out as it was colder than it looked! I really needed a light coat as well.

Oh, a bit behind I know but @EllaPaella and @Sooverthemill both of your new trainers are amazing 😍

Sooverthemill · 09/05/2022 20:35

@PalacePaper lovely to see you back!

EllaPaella · 09/05/2022 21:31

@Alwayspaintyournails I got the medium (I'm a 10-12 and usually find Zara sizing quite small) - It's pretty loose and I could of probably got away with a small but I'm happy with it. I would say if between sizes then size down. This dress is big for a standard Zara medium.
