Would you judge me?

I’m being a little vague (deliberately) please forgive me.

My husband is going for what equates to an interview.

I’ll also be visible to the interviewers.

If I was wearing an LV scarf and carrying a mulberry or LV bag too would you judge me negatively?

Sorry I know it’s a weird scenario!

Have you considered All Saints? Or St Michael?

saraclara · 01/04/2022 23:08

I'm biased against any high value item that sports a logo, so I might do a metal eye roll (while recogising I'm being a bit unfair).
LV doesn't sound very vicar's wife to me, unless the parish is in Mayfair or maybe poshest Cotswolds.

AngelinaFibres · 01/04/2022 23:16

Being a vicar and a vicars wife is different to just about any other job. Private school house master or headmaster and wife, probably comes the closest ,but even that doesn't have the often unrealistic expectations placed on those in religious office. Most people on here, me included, cant really have much of a clue how it all works. If you knew your husband when he was curate and in his current post then you have a whole lot more knowledge that just about everyone on here. I live in a village. The PCC chose our current vicar because he had retired to the village and bought a house. They could rent out the vicarage privately and he had retired from being vicar of a nearby village so they thought he would fit in. He isn't a good fit. The vicar of our nearest town (where my mother lives) has just been suspended for inappropriate behaviour. His curate likes to prostrate herself before the altar and implore the Holy Spirit to enter her. Between them they have driven away the few church goers they had. Whether you fit is absolutely crucial. You need to be your true selves because, if you are offered the stipend ,this will be your life. I am not at all religious so what happens in the church has no great effect on my life. There are still ripples outwards into the village, or the town ,when the fit is wrong. It affects many other areas of life. I think you should wear what you normally wear and take in how they behave towards you. You will get a gut feeling about it all. If it feels right then great. If it doesn't ,it never will and you certainly wouldn't want to spend years there.

I'm not going to live up to my user name here 😄

I'm sorry OP, but after reading your first post and your answers to pp. I simply think you're a self absorbed air head.

ichifanny · 01/04/2022 23:24

Imagining OP on a zoom call with a million designer accessories on clutching a bag .

LV is more Essex or Kent than Mayfair?
fortyfourfeasts · 01/04/2022 23:33

Take your Mulberry and wear your scarf. We're not loaded by any measure, but we work hard and save when we can. My DH bought me a Mulberry for a special birthday. I love it, it's practical and looks, IMO, lovely. Be proud of who you are.
Good luck for the interview.

I'll take your word for it, @TheHoptimist! I wouldn't know what to do with an LV bag, much less buy one. Not being sneery at all btw, I just have more of a Healthy Back Bag lifestyle. I like comfort and lots of pockets.

Its a tribe bag You aspire to a certain lifestyle - and LV is designers tracksuits, Dubai, botox etc
Would you judge me?
Cherryana · 01/04/2022 23:56

You do know it’s the PCC who you are going to be meeting?!! The majority are middle class old men who wouldn’t know a LV scarf and a mulberry bag if they saw saw one!!

I dress nicely and put effort in and I am called flashy, such is the low bar, that is prevalent in C of E churches up and down the country!!

Be yourself and love it!!

I assume that the OP is worried that they will see the LV and think that she isnt the right social class to be a vicars wife (which is ridiculous )
HundredMilesAnHour · 02/04/2022 00:02

@Cirelle

If you were carrying a Mulberry I’d probably think you were middle class and a little outdated. Visible logos are a bit passé. I wouldn’t assume you were rich if that’s what you’re worried about - exactly the opposite in fact.
This. Wearing/carrying Mulberry/LV don't reflect well on you in any sense as they both fail the style test. I'd think you were trying too hard and/or were insecure as well as out-of-touch with current trends.
tkwal · 02/04/2022 00:34

Interview for your husband to be adopted as a candidate for a political, party. I think you would need to look respectable, efficient and enthusiastic. Nod sagely when he makes a good point. I wouldn't advise designer gear. At the moment it would probably just antagonise voters of all persuasions

Vapeyvapevape · 02/04/2022 00:43

@tkwal he's a vicar

Where is the new church?

^ this is crucial. As if they'd want the vicar's wife flashing the cash with designer gear when dealing with people in poverty all week. A Home Counties congregation still have problems.

WildFlowerBees · 02/04/2022 04:16

Be you! Wear the scarf and take the bag I love Empreinte and I wouldn't judge you at all.

picklemewalnuts · 02/04/2022 08:09

I'd be thrilled if you wore some suffragette ribbons, or had a dinosaur keyring. I'd love someone to talk to.
I don't think you're coming to any of my parishes though. We aren't a designer bag area!

CaliforniaDrumming · 02/04/2022 08:11

What an entertaining thread.

Bobnotpop · 02/04/2022 08:30

I think you sound great. If our Vicar’s wife was GC with a love of style and a sense of humour I’d be tempted to go to church.

OP has already said it’s more HC posh village
TheHoptimist · 02/04/2022 09:16

If the Hc posh village think that you are common because you are wearing a LV scarf and carrying a bag then just bluff it out

I am sure they have a bit of inner bling somewhere and secretly read hello magazine and take a break.

5329871e · 02/04/2022 09:17

This thread is great!

As a regular church-goer with a soft spot for designer bags, my advice would be to avoid taking the flashier bits to church. Mulberry is fine because the branding is subtle and people don’t know it unless they know it. Keep the LV and Chanel at home.

WTF475878237NC · 02/04/2022 09:32

OP has already said it’s more HC posh village

^ yes and I already said that a HC congregation still have problems. It doesn't seem appropriate to splash the cash. As PP said Mulberry may be more subtle.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 02/04/2022 10:59

He's interviewing for a headmaster live in position?
He's applying to be butler to HRH?
Grin

HumourReplacementTherapy · 02/04/2022 11:02

@gunnersgold

Unless you are in London I'd think they were fake ! I notice clothes and brands though . Why not just not wear them then you'll blend in 🤷‍♀️
🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious You're right. I'm up north and I can't even afford a handbag. I use an Aldi carrier bag instead to carry my copper about in.
