Would you judge me?

I’m being a little vague (deliberately) please forgive me.

My husband is going for what equates to an interview.

I’ll also be visible to the interviewers.

If I was wearing an LV scarf and carrying a mulberry or LV bag too would you judge me negatively?

Sorry I know it’s a weird scenario!

Don’t double LV- if anyone does by chance notice then you are making more of a statement. If suburban or rural so not super edgy then I’d go LV scarf, Mulberry bag as appeals to very wide range and has a timeless smartness/slightly older nod. You broaden the appeal if you do need to. I totally understand this as we live a similar life where I do this sort of thing.

I use an Aldi carrier bag instead to carry my copper about in.

^ you don't need Style and Beauty you need to share your wisdom on the Money boards Grin

ukborn · 02/04/2022 11:56

I wouldn't think negatively about you though LV is not my style at all.

ChimChimeny · 02/04/2022 11:57

@Bobnotpop

I think you sound great. If our Vicar’s wife was GC with a love of style and a sense of humour I’d be tempted to go to church.
I agree!

Once I realised who OP was I no longer cared what she wore Grin

PlainJaneEyre · 02/04/2022 11:59

This has the potential for a classic 😂

NurseBernard · 02/04/2022 12:07

This thread is really 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

I mean, it’s not. A couple of posts a mildly funny, at best.

But as long as the OP is getting something out of it…………….

iCouldSleepForAYear · 02/04/2022 12:28

LV isn't my style either, but I also know expensive handbags can last for decades if they're well looked after.

If you showed up with both a baby and the nice handbag/cashmere combo, I think I'd just be impressed you managed to keep them clean. I was a sicked-upon stressed-out mess when my two were babies. Grin

@TheHoptimist

No-one is going to notice a mulberry bag- its the bag of choice of most 15 year olds these days
Absolutely zero 15 year olds would carry Mulberry. They wouldn't even know what it was. It's not exactly in their realm. They would be Gucci, Fendi or YSL

Maybe you could ask your husband for advice? Not really au fait with religion but an ostentatious display of wealth doesn't seem to go down well in the bible. Apparently some bearded bloke called Peter said "Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within". In keeping with biblical teaching I would wear sackcloth accessorised with ashes 🙄

But! It is god’s will that you should prosper!

'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. '”

Praise be. Blessed be the fruit 🍎 🐍

@Sexnotgender has long gone but if I were her, I'd be very mindfully tuning out any strangers' judgements
You can't please everybody all of the time, universal truth and sometimes these stalwarts of the parish can lean towards judgment. I saw this when I went back to my parents' church, a single mother. Most people lovely but there were some stalwarts who not only judged me but needed me to know they judged me.

So, tune it out tune it out tune it out.

In your shoes OP, focus positivity on the people intelligent enough that you are your own person with your own salary but more to the point, you're your own person and do not have to donate every cent you earn to charity. You're entitled to make decisions about how to spend the money you earn like we all do.

Regarding london I meant Lv isn't readily available and some people don't even know it exists . It's not like other brands , lv is only sold in harrods / Selfridges and flannels online etc .

I do realise there is money out of London but people I see with them in the south are clearly fakes .

It's not like other brands that are a few hundred , they are thousands for a bag so I would just think you were wearing fakes if your lifestyle doesn't match the brand..
🤷‍♀️

I can assure you that mulberry is very much year 11 (been to 15 secondary schools in past month across the country)

I never knew people thought like this. Mind Blown. I am in Ireland and I see lots of designer bags. Never realised that Londoners would be assuming they were fake! You can buy them online obviously. As well as going to the shops that sell them. i do have a fake channel flap but I never use it. I use my (real) loewe.
Honor9to5 · 02/04/2022 13:47

My lifestyle is just get up, go to work on the bus, come home, watch netflix! but yeh, I did spend 2,000 (approx) on a bag. The vast majority women who buy an expensive bag don't have any kind of ''lifestyle''
to match the bag.

I had no idea teens were into Mulberry. I like Mulberry but I’m a boring mid-30’s professional. Who are these teens? Are they carrying Mulberry ironically? Where are they getting the money from? Confused
Sexnotgender · 02/04/2022 14:00

If anyone cares I’ve gone for a Mulberry oak Cara and a mulberry scarf that is plain.

OP posts:
Honor9to5 · 02/04/2022 14:03

Own it !!
You are not obliged to don a sackcloth

TillyTopper · 02/04/2022 14:13

If you're taking Neonoe in empreinte leather then I'd say don't - I think they are a bit in your face especially if the print part is a strong contrast to the leather. Does that help?

I’ve gone with an oak cara.

My Neonoe is marine rouge and the print is the same colour as the leather.

Would you judge me?

Gorgeous! Bag and toddler!

emeraldjones · 02/04/2022 14:44

I'd go with a longish pleated skirt, mohair twinset, pearls and a crocodile handbag from a second hand shop. Oh and brogues. Nice and reassuring for the PCC.

OrlandointheWilderness · 02/04/2022 14:50

If it's as a vicars wife I wouldn't worry tbh. My parents are both vicars and I know more vicars (and wives) than most, and some are very stylish. I remember when dad was interviewed we all had to go, as a 14 year old I hated it 😂

OrlandointheWilderness · 02/04/2022 14:51

@DuckaLucka

Don’t vicars get free housing? And no council tax. The only vicar I know has a wife who rubs a lucrative business, they’re absolutely fricken loaded, multiple horses, trust me they’re living the life.
Then they are living off his wife's money! Trust me in this, being a vicar is NOT a well paid job! Not nearly well paid enough for the crap they have to put up with!
