She was Margaret of Connaught wasn't she? A British princess.

banivani · 29/04/2022 11:28

Aye, I think so! But I don't keep up Blush

Serenster · 29/04/2022 11:28

Yes, she was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and died tragically young of sepsis while 8 months pregnant. 😥 She was the grandmother of both the current King Carl Gustav of Sweden, and Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

CPV looks lovely in that outfit - very 50s Riviera chic!

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/04/2022 14:24

She was the grandmother of both the current King Carl Gustav of Sweden, and Queen Margrethe of Denmark.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark was named for her, including her nickname, Daisy.

Princess Margaret's widow had a second British wife. After he became King Gustav VI Adolph, he married Lady Louise Mountbatten, (sister of Louis and aunt of Philip). There was a bit of a kerfluffle because she was titled as a mere "lady" and not royal as was required in Sweden at the time. But it was decided that since she was born a princess (hers was one of the German titles that got changed during WWI), it was okay.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/04/2022 14:33

Correction, he was still Crown Prince when he married Lady Louise.

susiebluebell · 29/04/2022 19:32

Can't believe a Nazi will was still active and keeping two people from getting married...

LadyEloise10 · 30/04/2022 09:08

One of Princess Margaret of Sweden's sons, Carl, renounced his titles to marry a commoner in 1946.

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 09:22

And only died in 2012! The last of Queen Victoria's great-grandchildren.

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 09:31

Is it just me who think it would've been more romantic if Gustav had given up his title 20 years ago? I mean, it's only a courtesy one (I think!) and he would've had plenty of time to build a career etc and make his own money.

Maireas · 30/04/2022 09:33

... it's not just you - I was thinking the same.

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 09:43

I mean, Carina is a successful author and with his family connections they'd hardly have been short of funds!

Maireas · 30/04/2022 10:24

I certainly wouldn't play into the hands of a racist.

It's not just you @KillingMeDeftly
That's why I posted about Carl Johan Bernadotte

SenecaFallsRedux · 30/04/2022 12:33

I think it was more than the title, though. I think it was the wealth, including the ancestral home, that went with the title. Also, an argument can be made that fighting a racist document in court to have it invalidated is a good thing.

One question I haven't been able to find an answer to is when did this court battle begin and why has it taken so long. I know nothing about the laws in Germany, but certainly in the US (and I assume in the jurisdictions in the UK), provisions like those are considered against public policy and are not enforceable. I would have thought Germany would have similar laws.

susiebluebell · 30/04/2022 17:15

Really interesting thought Seneca! I wonder if racist nonsense (and other personal 'quirks' people might choose to put in their wills) is enforceable by law when it comes to wills? No idea about the UK, or Germany either for that matter. Glad that they are happy though.

DisforDarkChocolate · 30/04/2022 17:42

I like lots of CPV's clothes, I just wish she'd have a bit more fun with her lovely hair.

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 17:47

Maybe it's her on-duty look so that she's not so easily recognised off-duty while wearing it down?

frugalkitty · 30/04/2022 18:22

Pictures of Charlene at the Monaco Grand Prix

frugalkitty · 30/04/2022 18:24

Whoops!

Maireas · 30/04/2022 18:34

Well, it's nice to see Charlene back with her family. Slightly different hair, and overall quite a severe look.

OP posts:
paradyning · 30/04/2022 18:50

Absolutely love that hair on her now. The colour really suits her. Hope she is ok

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 19:08

I love how normal the Monegasque twins seem - if they're bored they will yawn in public and if they want to wear trainers to a big event then they will!

GrouchyKiwi · 30/04/2022 19:12

The F1 race in Monaco hasn't happened yet this year so I wonder what GP that is.

Charlene suits that severe cut. The twins are so funny. Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 19:12

Isabella of Denmark has just had her confirmation. She looks very sophisticated in her white suit (apparently one of Mary's!) and older than 15, and how tall is Christian? Daisy is nearly 6' and Fred is about 6'2 yet he towers over them!

KillingMeDeftly · 30/04/2022 19:17

Charlene could pass as a sister of a her fellow countrywoman Charlize Theron. Both have really embraced the severe blonde pixie cut.
