Things you are just fed up with?

I'm really really tired of everything being stretchy jersey. I used to find crisp cotton pj's everywhere but not anymore, it's nearly always thin, cheap jersey now that clings and has no shape. Just why? It's everywhere and usually touted as being 'perfectly soft', but it rarely looks decent.

Also fed up of white trainers, plimsols, slip on footwear, but I do get that these are often comfortable.

Polyester and viscose unlined dresses in lurid patterns that cost as much as lined silk Shock

I like stretchy jersey, I couldn’t sleep in cotton as it’s too restrictive.
And I like breathable fabrics, so no polyester for me !

ChickenStripper · 27/03/2022 13:24

Boring stuff like blazers from the 1980s resurfacing but then I'm old 😂

WannaBeCool · 27/03/2022 15:28

Fuck polyester. Every time I see a pair of trousers or shirt I like it's always nasty polyester. Nice dresses that are flimsy and clingy poly. My work shirt and trousers are polyester and I sweat my tits off in it. Vile.

balalake · 27/03/2022 16:10

Thin fabrics. Clothes should not be see-through in all but name.

MercedesBenz · 27/03/2022 16:18

Go to cyber jammies for nice pjs

Mindtheears · 27/03/2022 16:21

Someone recommended a company for dressing gowns the other day. They really were “gowns”, patterned and no towelling (or jersey!) in sight. No idea what the company was though which is annoying as was trying to remember.

MercedesBenz · 27/03/2022 16:28

@Mindtheears

Was it ‘ one hundred stars ‘

beatrixpotterspencil · 27/03/2022 16:52

I love a nice gown, only in cotton or silk though, so hard to find.
I have a lovely one from Toast that I found on ebay.

Was out today had a snoot in the shops (the one's left standing in this quickly vanishing town) and couldnt believe the prices for thin poly stuff in New Look.

Another thing im fed up with is how all vests, cami's and tees are stretchy jersey. Im slim but they make me look like a slumped sausage.
I just want a decent silk or cotton, not fitted and stretchy, aaargh. The price of silk though Shock, but worth it for a special purchase.

Well I came on to say I’m fed up with the side effects of chemo, the sickness, weight gain, hair, eyebrows and eyelash loss and then realised I’d got it wrong 🙈😂 for this thread!!

So anyway, I AM still fed up with the weight gain, meaning none of my clothes fit, although thanks to the lovely S&B posters I bought a mini capsule wardrobe last weekend to tide me over til I get back to normal. Thank you all again 😘

But in the theme of the thread, I’m fed up with the huge long billowing dresses that swamp me (even when I was thinner!) as I’m only 5’2”, they just look ridiculous. And it’s the same for blouses too. I love wearing dresses, but haven’t been able to buy a really nice flattering one for a couple of years now.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 27/03/2022 17:01

Pressed ‘post’ too soon….

So anyway, I’ve decided to dig out my sewing machine and start making my own dresses again, so I can tailor them to me exactly. Have bought some patterns to get me going, (even though I can make my own), so it’s going to get me started again. Quite excited!!

Was it Susannah? Their dressing gowns are epic: lovely cotton, gorgeous prints. Wouldn’t buy anything else.
Iamthewombat · 27/03/2022 17:07

To answer the question, I’ve had it with those billowy print midi dresses. When worn with a cardigan and trainers they look like something your auntie Maureen would have worn in the 1970s.

I would like to see fitted, plain coloured, sharply cut clothes come back into fashion.

Summerhillsquare · 27/03/2022 17:09

Frills, puffy sleeves, ruffles - the milkmaid look. Nothing ever suited me less.

QuentininQuarantino · 27/03/2022 17:12

Stupid sleeves. There are NO simple sleeves anywhere.

Acne Envy

Supersimkin2 · 27/03/2022 17:13

White trainers.

Just bought some fluffy Vans which are so out of date they’ll be back in soon enough.

All knitwear pilling cos acrylic.

Stinky pits on the tube cos everyone in polyester (not my pits, oh no).

MargosKaftan · 27/03/2022 17:16

OP - also sick of the shit quality stuff. Last year, I bought one of these t shirts last year, silk cotton blend. It looked great and washed well. Annoyingly I left it behind when we went away, so glad they have them back in this year and plan to buy several. silk cotton t

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/03/2022 17:17

Tiered dresses with ridiculously high waistlines. In fact either of those things in a dress.

Also polyester everything and flimsy fabrics.

PrincessPaws · 27/03/2022 17:18

Dressing gowns. I just want a proper towelling robe, but they all seem to be that waffle stuff/thin cotton/satin (not warm enough), or that awful synthetic fleecy material, which is lovely and soft but makes you sweat like nobodies business. Why is it so hard to find a dressing gown???

CraftyBugger · 27/03/2022 17:19

Only being able to buy the top half of a top, why do they all have the bottom chopped off? Not everyone is comfortable walking around with their belly out!

Relentlessrose · 27/03/2022 17:23

Fake pockets give me the rage
Puffed sleeves
Off the shoulder things
Anything you can't wear a bra with (most clothes at the moment it seems!)

TimBoothseyes · 27/03/2022 17:38

Hideous patterns
Fitted tops
Tops that stop just on the waistline

All I want is a bum skimming baggy top with decent sleeves.

LookdeepintotheParka · 27/03/2022 17:40

@TwoBigNoisyBoys that does put it all in perspective Flowers

I'm fed up with the stupid sleeves trend. I found a pretty dress in Next but it had these massive flouncy sleeves and being broad shouldered I just look like a rugby player!

I'm also fed up with trainer socks slipping under my heels. Love my NB trainers but not the 150 billion times I have to hike up the socks when I'm wearing them. Have tried all brands to no avail.

Also fed up of trousers being far too long these days - even the petite length ones.

And not being able to find any jeans that fit....

Will stop moaning now Grin

SquirrelFan · 27/03/2022 17:41

The weird colours - for a few years now all the colours look "off" - sort of greyed out, 70s, Orla Kiely-ish. Would love to see a proper blue or clear kelly green again, instead of coral, sea-green or avocado!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 27/03/2022 17:44

I’m with you on the awful jersey pjs - I find it so uncomfortable to sleep in. Rucks up and twists. I will only sleep in cotton.

I’m over anything cropped
Bell, puffed or wide sleeves

But most of all:

FUCK OFF HIGH WAISTED JEANS / TROUSERS AND TAKE MUM JEANS WITH YOU.

Mindtheears · 27/03/2022 17:59

Gowns weren’t from the companies suggested but similar to One Hundred Stars. I think it was generally “Mother of the Bride” style outfits plus gowns
