Would you wear these as daily trainers?

I live in jeans - need some everyday trainers as I’m sick of walking about in black ankle boots!

I’m 40 if that’s important

OP posts:
TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/03/2022 20:26

I would wear them, no hesitation. They would be quite the step up from my current Tesco trainers!

dudsville · 02/03/2022 20:30

I think your choice and the other sketchers a pp linked to are both fab. The brand gets a lot of hate here. I don't get it.

vickylou78 · 02/03/2022 20:32

I'm 43 and would totally wear them! I've never heard of them being so unfashionable before....but I'm from the West country so we aren't known for fashion! I'd wear them as feel they are more subtle and blend in with outfit and not too clumpy if wearing jeans. I wouldn't wear them as a fashion statement but none of my friends would care! Several of my friends (also 40ish) wear them all the time!

RampantIvy · 02/03/2022 20:34

Neither do I @dudsville. I think the world is divided into people who look at the trainers you are wearing to judge the brand and the person wearing them, and people like you and me who don't look at what people are wearing on their feet. It just wouldn't occur to me.

Kenworthington · 02/03/2022 20:37

Well they aren’t cool/stylish/fashionable. But if you like them then you should get them

VivienneDelacroix · 02/03/2022 20:38

I'm a Nike person. Nike Daybreaks are my favourites, but I could be swayed by other styles.

RampantIvy · 02/03/2022 20:42

Well they aren’t cool/stylish/fashionable

But I don't think any trainers are particularly stylish or cool.

Beurre · 02/03/2022 21:33

Fitflop trainers are my absolute favourite for confort and they look stylish. Currently wearing these and love them :

It's the dark top and white stripe sole that kills them for me.
White only or pastel with dresses and totally black with jeans for me

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 02/03/2022 23:26

Look up Cariuma. I wear OCD low. Have a pair in pale blue suede and just bought a red suede pair.
They come in leather suede, canvas soo many colours, patterns and style. Soooo comfortable, trendy and for every pair you buy they plant two trees in Brasil so sustainable also. int.cariuma.com/collections/oca-low-super-plp-women

Which is absolutely fine, but the op posted on style and beauty about 'would you wear them', not asking whether they were a comfortable line, or good brand.

So sick of people coming on style and beauty to speak disdainfully of people who care about style and beauty. It feels just as sexist as someone who would judge a woman for not caring.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 03/03/2022 07:20

I like sketchers. I wear an all black pair for work...very very comfy. I'm on my feet for up to 9 hours a shift and never get sore feet. I'm 46.

RampantIvy · 03/03/2022 08:01

And those who speak disdainfully about other people's choices that aren't "fashionable" - back at you.

Hmm I didn't speak at all disparagingly of people's choices that aren't fashionable. Many of my clothes aren't fashionable.

However I also wouldn't go onto a unicycling forum to point out that two wheeled bicycles are more practical and personally I think it's silly to be playing around on a unicycle. It's called 'style and beauty', but so many posters like to come on to act disdainfully about people who care about it.

Caranjo · 03/03/2022 08:20

@Lookingoutside

I just discovered Wushu. Nice thick sole and really amazing colours and design.

There a bit more expensive but appear to be something special.

I just had a look at these, I love them. They don't seem easy to get in the UK though.

‘I just had a look at these, I love them. They don't seem easy to get in the UK though.’

Oh right. That’s a shame. Can you not shop from the website then? I didn’t try, just browsed.

You can, I just don't fancy the extra custom payments as it comes from EU.

Lookingoutside · 03/03/2022 13:18

‘You can, I just don't fancy the extra custom payments as it comes from EU.’

Annoying. I didn’t think of that.

'So sick of people coming on style and beauty to speak disdainfully of people who care about style and beauty. It feels just as sexist as someone who would judge a woman for not caring.'

Agree. And OP does care or wouldn't have posted a thread asking for opinions.
It's not a thread asking specifically about comfort, OP is asking if they are considered fashionable.

MrsMiddleMother · 03/03/2022 20:48

I think they look fine, and if they're comfy that's a win! Honestly I think women over 40 look silly in the Nike air max or new balance etc

RampantIvy · 03/03/2022 21:10

Sorry but no they're not very stylish. Nan on a walk type shoes.
Oh sorry OP but they're awful.
Sketchers are a bit fuddy duddy for a 40 year old OP.
They are quite ugly and are v unfashionable I'm afraid!
I’m 10 years older than you and I wouldn’t wear Skechers. My mother wears things like that.
Do you have painful feet? I would presume you did if I saw you wearing them
They are a bit 'nan'
No round my way skechers are the choice of retired folk or people with orthopaedic issues

So sick of people coming on style and beauty to speak disdainfully of people who care about style and beauty

All the above comments which are on this thread, from people who care about style and beauty, are pretty disdainful IMO. It's not surprising that people get defensive about their footwear choices when faced with comments like that.

They are lovely! I am sooooo tempted but I really shouldn't...

What do you want people to say in response to the OP? Lots people on here think Skechers look awful, so they're letting the OP know their views. Which is what she asked for!
RampantIvy · 03/03/2022 21:30

So it's OK to tell someone that they are wearing shoes that are only fit for people with orthopaedic problems @harrumphs? You don't think that is rude?

There's nothing wrong with saying, "it's not my style" or "don't like them"? Making disablist and ageist remarks about people's choice of footwear is what I take issue with.
