Would you wear these as daily trainers?

I live in jeans - need some everyday trainers as I’m sick of walking about in black ankle boots!

I’m 40 if that’s important

I suggest Allbirds wool runners (or any of the other styles). So so comfortable, sustainable, and depending on the colour they can look less like a classic running shoe and a bit more like an every day trainer but still very comfortable. For comparison, have also worn vejas and Stan smiths and I find them a bit uncomfortable.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/03/2022 17:14

I’m 10 years older than you and I wouldn’t wear Skechers. My mother wears things like that. I have white Adidas superstars with silver stripes, a leather dark lilac pair of Adidas (not sure what they are) and Nike Huaraches. The latter are super super comfy so would be good for summer dog walking not being in any way water proof. They are also dd’s cast offs as she wanted a coloured pair and now will only wear the black ones. I’ve also got dd’s cast off black suede vans but not really that keen.

I like the chunky trainer look. If I were buying some more, I’d buy something like those pumas.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/03/2022 17:15

As for washing the Superstars, they’ve been through the machine 3 times and the Huaraches far more than that.

Samanabanana · 01/03/2022 17:17

37 and wear NB or Adidas. The more garish the colour the better Grin

merryhouse · 01/03/2022 17:19

Well, I wasn't going to comment (that I don't really like the ones you originally posted, and those all-black ones that are definitely for running in are dreadful as Proper Clothes) because I'm a frumpy middle-aged fuddy-duddy who doesn't wear trainers much

then someone posted a link to a pair of Stan Smiths, apparently The Thing, which apart from the colour and a horrible padded-coat bit at the back look exactly like my supremely comfortable leather Hotter shoes.

Maybe now is the time to give up on trainers?

notacooldad · 01/03/2022 17:22

I'm not keen on the style of the trainer OP, nor the colour tbh. However the most important things are is that you like them and they comfy for you.
On a day to day basis I wear to work Nike Air both in black and white depending what I am wearing. I also wear high top Vans and I have too many pairs of Converse. I've slowed down wearing them though. I have a couple of pairs of New Balance as well.
As a concession to me getting old I usually take the insoles out and replace with gel insoles for a lot of my trainers.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 01/03/2022 17:23

I love trainers and wear them daily but wouldn't ever wear those.

Tipsylizard · 01/03/2022 17:24

I am wearing these - they are very comfortable and have a wide fit. At 52 I am all about comfort!!

People slag off Sketchers all the time. Just one of those brands you are judged for wearing. Old woman shoes... Call the fashion police...yada yada yawn. I'm 70 and I wouldn't wear them coz I am down with the kids and a hip young thang. So funny...the horror of buying a pair of Sketchers!

If they feel good on your feet buy them. I have an all black chunky pair that are very comfortable for running round the house or going to Tesco in, I wouldn't wear them with jeans however but they look fine with leggings. Perfect for every day wear if you are walking your dogs or getting things done and not too fussed about having the latest trend that the kids are wearing on your trotters.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 01/03/2022 17:25

@Sofasogood1

I don't like them op but they aren't my style. If you aren't stylish and don't care about fashion does it matter?

I wear Adidas

They look fine to me, so I guess I'm unstylish and unfashionable. Could you please tell me what makes these not stylish and Adidas trainers stylish? Is there something in particular about a trainer I should look for if I want a stylish pair?
RampantIvy · 01/03/2022 17:27

TBH I don't look at people's feet to see what brand of trainers they are wearing. Do people really do that?

Nap1983 · 01/03/2022 17:31

Adidas Gazzeles For everyday/casual wear I have them In several colours. Really comfy and not expensive

WinterOfOurDiscoTent · 01/03/2022 17:36

I wear Sketchers and I'm 40 so I guess I'm an unfashionable fuddy duddy. Shoot me now! Hmm

MaudieandMe · 01/03/2022 17:39

Surely by 40 you’ve realised that ‘fashionable’ and ‘cool’ are alternative words that essentially mean ‘screwing money out of gullible folk’? Grin

Honestly, I’ve never given a fuck about fashion from about the age of 13 and I’m very happy for it. It’s never stopped me getting ahead in my career or enjoying a happy home life and I don’t suffer from social anxiety either.

Wear what you want to, is comfortable for you and makes you feel happy and stop giving a stuff about the irrelevant opinions of other people.

BeyondMyWits · 01/03/2022 17:49

I wear sketchers... all black including sole) for work. Comfy, lightweight, not particularly "stylish" but who cares.

Pisces89 · 01/03/2022 17:52

I love them. I also love sketchers they are so comfy.

catinboots123 · 01/03/2022 17:56

@catfunk

Sorry but no they're not very stylish. Nan on a walk type shoes.
Nan on a walk Grin
Bishop26 · 01/03/2022 18:00

I also think it depends what jeans your wearing them with on what they'd look like. I love Nike air max and theyre great for my plantar faciitis but just got some air force ones in plain white as felt they looked a bit smarter & could get away with wearing them when trying to look less casual

Fellrunner85 · 01/03/2022 18:05

I hate Sketchers and don't see the point of them tbh. But then I'm a runner and I buy the best shoes for running in; I'm not that interested in what's fashionable.

Sofasogood1 · 01/03/2022 18:09

Hi @richardmarxisinnocent. I didn't say the op wasn't stylish - she said it in her second post. My point was - if you don't care about what looks good then what does it matter what we think. Op also asked what we wear - so I answered.

I have no idea if you are stylish or not.

gunnersgold · 01/03/2022 18:12

Do you have painful feet? I would presume you did if I saw you wearing them but they are fine .
I wear converse hi tops , new balance and Nike day break .. I have incredibly painful feet and these work well . I'm nearer 50 but don't consider myself old and don't want to submit to 'comfort clothing' just yet!

QweenBea · 01/03/2022 18:18

@ShittyFingers

Just to add, I’ve just picked them up and omg they are so comfortable! Feel like slippers! But I’m not very stylish so not sure if they look shit or not
They are a bit 'nan' so you could do better and cheaper

Try www.getthelabel.com/c/women

you can get much cheaper than £57

Staffy1 · 01/03/2022 18:20

Well slap my arse and call me granny so, I have those in this colour

Grin

I had no idea they were considered so unfashionably old womanish. But then I think fashionable flowing tent dresses with chunky trainers look ridiculous, so definitely not trendy.

aloe987 · 01/03/2022 18:25

I'm also 40 and wear Nike Airs as my daily trainers. They are ridiculously comfy and have some really nice colours.
