Omg. How lovely. Spend the money on yourself and ignore the haters!

I'd buy a Mulberry Lily because I've always loved them and they seem the perfect size to me. I know Mulberry is very overpriced these days but it's still my dream bag.

@chocolatesaltyballs22

If you don't understand designer handbags, how about you just scroll on by rather than trying to make the OP feel guilty for spending her own money on something she wants.
I think those posters think they are being funny, or clever, when really they just come across as snide, thinking they are morally superior just because they choose to spend their money in a different way. I'm sure the OP isn't prioritising a bag over food and clothing for her children, so it's nobody else's business what she spends it on.
DoThePropeller · 26/02/2022 19:06

Pre-loved is a great idea. Mostly for work but something that could also serve me for a weekend when I don’t have three children and a changing bag.

I work in London, professional services, just returning to the office/client lunches. Needs to be a reasonable size as will have stuff to lug about.

That Chloe one is very pretty but fear it wouldn’t be big enough.

@Neolara

A week on a beach in Greece? (Appreciate this is not necessarily the answer you were after.)
See, a week on a beach in Greece (or anywhere) would be my idea of hell! I'd much rather have an expensive handbag! Different strokes and all that.
ChampagneCommunist · 26/02/2022 19:07

Pre-owned classic Chanel 2.44.

I would use and love it. It was also hold it's value

LizzieMacQueen · 26/02/2022 19:08

@FormerlySpeckledyHen thank you for the link.

Might go check my piggy bank.

londonmummy1966 · 26/02/2022 19:09

I'd get this one - I just love the sculptural look and the black makes the geometry a bit less in your face than the other colours.

If it's for work I would chose something quite light as otherwise it's a pain when filled. Perhaps something structured so it holds its shape longer.

DoThePropeller · 26/02/2022 19:10

@NuffSaidSam do you not think hating on other women on the internet is more deserving of that therapist appointment?

And don’t be obtuse. Of course I know you can get a decent handbag for less than a grand. But as you so helpfully pointed out, that would be a different thread and I was specifically ask for recommendations specific to my circumstances - not yours.

Pre-owned classic Chanel 2.44.

unlikely for 1k

DoThePropeller · 26/02/2022 19:11

I would love a Chanel bag. I wish I hadn’t talked myself out of buying one about ten years ago, they have gone up in value so much!

Have you looked at Carolina Herrera? I have a gorgeous clutch from there. This tote is £970

You have c£1000 to spend on a new handbag…
DoThePropeller · 26/02/2022 19:12

Yes I think it would be closer to £2-3k?

gasty · 26/02/2022 19:13

What about a Prada nylon tote?

This is pretty! I think I’d need to see it in person to see how soft/rigid it is.

more than 1k though, bags are way too expensive these days!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 26/02/2022 19:14

@thistimelastweek

If I had £1,000 to spend on a new bag, I wouldn't spend it on a new bag.

(Sorry. )

I'm of this view too 🙈
SouthernFashionista · 26/02/2022 19:15

@Grantingmum

I honestly don't understand the handbag thing. I realise that's not the point of your thread. Is that really want you want to do with your money? Maybe give it to charity.
Oh bore off. ‘Give it to charity’ Seriously 🙄
qualitygirl · 26/02/2022 19:16

@DoThePropeller what kind of bag do you want. Crossbody, tote? What colour?

I don't hate you! I think it's madness and a bit gross tbh, but different strokes for different folks and all that.

You get the bag you want and don't worry what other people think when they see you with it.

(But I do have to point out that 'decent handbag' were your words not mine!)

Give it to charity ? Talk about virtue signalling!

But if you want to give me the £1000 I will promise to spend it on a therapist.

Ideally a tote but if it had a crossbody strap that would be a bonus. I don’t mind re colour, I mostly wear neutrals and my coats are lightl grey, black or a dark military green so I think I could go for a braver colour. I always default to buying black and am trying to do this less!
