I think I would never spend £1 k on a bag. But I asked DH to spend £500 on a michael kors weekender for me for Xmas. It has been used to death and I love it.

So- 2 Michael Kors weekenders?

Gonnagetgoing · 26/02/2022 20:25

Bags have shot up in price over the past few years which is which I rarely buy designer.

I’d save for one you love new or preloved or wait for sales.

redferrari · 26/02/2022 20:25

I would recommend browsing for a few and having an idea of size and weight. I got myself a lovely LV bag for my 40th and was keen on mulberry but found the leather bags esp bayswater quite heavy especially as I used to commute to work on crowded tubes. Mulberry bags are beautiful and I might buy a cross body for evening time at some point in future but wasn't right for daily use although have seen many use it during commute. Hope you enjoy your new bag op.

Gonnagetgoing · 26/02/2022 20:25

I mean rarely buy designer now! I did when I had the money… Blush

@SD1978

Why bother coming onto, and derailing, a thread in style and beauty, when never once had OP asked, would you. You wouldn't, great for you, she (and many others) would, so the snarky passive aggressive bullying is unnecessary, childish, and quite frankly disappointing. Pop off and start your own thread about how you'd rather go to Greece, hand it to charity, or grab a £50 bag from next. Really, really wasn't the point and some people are acting bloody childishly. Don't agree, don't 'get it' then jog on and find something you do.......HmmBiscuit
Absolutely this. Virtue signalling and snide.
Svara · 26/02/2022 20:27

Maybe a wool coat with decent pockets, I don't like to have to carry a bag. Then I'd put thermal curtains on the bedroom windows. Cost of living is skyrocketing, a handbag is the last thing on my radar.

Gonnagetgoing · 26/02/2022 20:28

I borrowed my aunt’s Bayswater once and found it so heavy too!

Also she got her mulberries from 2000 onwards when you could get a real bargain compared to now!

Depends if you like logos, metal work etc (I hate both) and what finish and colour you like.

CryHavoc · 26/02/2022 20:29

My h bought me a mini Alexa for my 40th last week. Dark green, I love it.

Ff10n · 26/02/2022 20:30

I'd go and buy something I liked at the £100 mark and donate the rest to charity.
Sorry, but I think spending £1000 on a bag is immoral when there children going hungry and people sleeping on the streets.

DoThePropeller · 26/02/2022 20:31

I like the Prada Saffiano - they have an orange one too.

hardlyeverwornit.com/products/black-saffiano-leather-galleria-tote-bag

Tempted to just blow the budget/wait a little longer and buy a Chanel bag but do wonder if I’d actually use it or just keep it in the wardrobe and stroke it occasionally.

Not this again.
jay55 · 26/02/2022 20:34

@FormerlySpeckledyHen love that Hermes one.

DramaAlpaca · 26/02/2022 20:35

I first heard about Strathberry on here. I now have three, all different styles and colours. If I had £1k to spend on myself I'd buy two more.

I like Aspinal too, and Mulberry although I find them too heavy for me personally.

The last thing I'd go for is a Louis Vuitton - too shouty designer for my taste.

undermilkjug · 26/02/2022 20:35

I wouldn't go for a mulberry. They are very heavy. I got a Bayswater from the outlet at Bicester a few years ago and o barely use it now as it isn't big enough for work stuff, I found I prefer a tote and it is really heavy.

I have a coach bag which I love and a nice big aubergine Matt and Nat handbag which is great for work.

Holothane · 26/02/2022 20:36

Leather rucksack and purse to match.

SD1978 · 26/02/2022 20:36

@DoThePropeller - never buy one of anything just to stroke lovingly- bugger that. You can't take it with you, get all the enjoyment you can now, and lots of it. So many things I've kept for good and had the epiphany last year- this is as good as it gets. Wear it, use it, love it, and bugger tomorrow.......

undermilkjug · 26/02/2022 20:36

Or I'd buy a bench. I think that was the previous virtue signalling wanky answer to a thread about handbag preferences.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 26/02/2022 20:42
@FormerlySpeckledyHen love that Hermes one.
It’s beautiful isn’t it ❤️ Although I would look silly carrying it as it’s almost as tall as me.

NotYourOscarSpeech · 26/02/2022 20:42

@StiltonIsLife I can’t believe how much the Marcie has gone up in price! I paid £588 for the exact same one as linked only a few years ago.

OP, I am really coveting Senreve as super practical but luxurious totes. And I love this www.mansurgavriel.com/products/soft-lady-bag-black which leave you room for a lovely Chloe or similar purse Smile

But to be honest of everything posted the Givenchy you linked is probably my favourite, I have two structured Antigonas and I adore them, I haven’t seen this soft one before and I may have just ordered it 🙄

She's looking for a tote.
househunters · 26/02/2022 20:46

Anything. It mulberry, as a few others have said. Used to be well regarded. Is now overpriced, poor quality and the brand name itself is being incredibly viewed as tacky.

househunters · 26/02/2022 20:46

*anything but

househunters · 26/02/2022 20:47

*increasingly viewed

Need to check my typos before posting!

NotYourOscarSpeech · 26/02/2022 20:48

@househunters I wouldn’t say Mulberry is considered “tacky” nowadays as such. More than it’s just not really very exclusive and has been overdone. It’s interesting how all the funky new designs are now just being replaced by the classics, but worse quality and higher price tags.
