What are you buying?

@Serenster

For a work tote I’d look at a Smythson I think - they have some really nice options in your price range. Otherwise I second the advice to go to Bicester and check what’s available there.
I actually got a stunning tote from there reduced from £1k to £400 The quality is FAN-TASTIC and would highly recommend.

Looking at this seasons the only one they grabs is the envelope crossbody which isn’t what OP is after I don’t think… 😞

Motherofgorgons · 26/02/2022 22:01

Oh for heaven's sake let the OP buy what she wants with her money instead of virtue signalling.

I don't know anything about expensive handbags but I probably would not buy nylon for that price.

Motherofgorgons · 26/02/2022 22:04

That first Celine bag upthread is lovely.

EekThreek · 26/02/2022 22:04

I have 3 kids. If I had £1000 to spend on myself, it would be on a week away by myself all inclusive so I didn't have to cook, clean or think about everyone else for a few days.

Friend of mine takes herself on a yoga retreat abroad once a year, and apart from the yoga (for me) it sounds like bliss Grin

Greattimestroubledtimes · 26/02/2022 22:06

It’s a tax on stupidity.

Totalwasteofpaper · 26/02/2022 22:07
How did your straps wear?

I have this is ox blood and had to take it back TWICE for repair. which is annoying because the ysl staff are rude and one tried to charge me for it Confused because this tote bag is apparently “not for putting many things in”

Super annoying as it is a great looking bad.

Maireas · 26/02/2022 22:07
@Maireasvothers have picked other things. So no that’s my choice,
Right. Did you have a particular one in mind? Some backpacks can look quite stylish.

Maireas · 26/02/2022 22:10

That St Laurent tote is gorgeous. So stylish.
Some people are suggesting rucksacks, OP - are your looking for that kind of style?

Tinabn · 26/02/2022 22:16

If you can’t find one that you really want why not find a designer who will make a bespoke one for you? I’ve the perfect bag made out of recycled saddle leather, it’s unique, a work of art, practical and I’ve supported a local crafts person. I’ve three mulberry bags but never use them now.

justasking111 · 26/02/2022 22:18

I would buy a vintage bag

That's what I have. A custom made leather bag from my home country which has lasted 4 years with daily use at £80.
StatisticallyChallenged · 26/02/2022 22:28

I would also buy preloved if you can find something you love - most of mine have been second hand and I've had some amazing bargains.

I also really like the bayswater, although I actually prefer the Coca bayswater to the heritage/current version. The shape was more useful for me, and it was better for getting a slightly large work laptop in. Weight never bothered me tbh.

I've not used my bags much lately thanks to wfh/lockdowns and getting them out again is one of the perks of returning to the office soon. Bonus time here too and contemplating a purchase, but not sure what yet. I missed a stunning Gucci on NPN a few weeks ago and I haven't found anything else which has caught my heart the same way yet!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 26/02/2022 22:58

Nobody gives a fuck if other people wouldn't spend £1000 on a bag, because the question wasn't 'Would you spend £1000 on a bag?', so I don't know why people feel a need to keep saying it.

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 26/02/2022 23:03

I'd buy 2 second hand ones Smile so maybe I'd have to talk to my therapist about my inability to make decisions....
On Vestiaire, you can get really nice bags at a fraction of the price, I strongly recommend it.
Personally I really don't like Goyard, I think they look pretty cheap for the price.
What is NPN? It sounds like something I shouldn't know about but want to!

Well some people on here would suggest your friend spends the week in the garden shed doing yoga and sends the money she would have spent to charity.
JaceLancs · 26/02/2022 23:25

£1k wouldn’t be enough for some of the bags I lust after so would rather spend £500 eg Coach and buy some lovely shoes instead manolo blahnik, Valentino or Jimmy choo from Bicester outlet

CharlotteTuesday · 26/02/2022 23:31

Anyone remember the thread years ago when some weirdos insisted they the money would be better spent on a memorial bench?

Honestly - if you're of the opinion that a sainsburys carrier will do, just don't click on the bloody thread

OP - Loewe puzzle bag (may have to push the budget a little!) or I may be tempted to go £500 on a coach tabby 26 and the remainder on a new outfit

CharlotteTuesday · 26/02/2022 23:32

Oh and no to mulberry. Just my opinion but they just look so dated now - especially the Bayswater. They don't hold their value (this may not be important to you) and they're horribly bulky to carry

LegArmpits · 26/02/2022 23:37

I'll never ever understand bags 😂

CharlotteTuesday · 26/02/2022 23:41

@LegArmpits probably not the thread for you then is it as you're unable to answer the question posed

DameCelia · 26/02/2022 23:43

@LegArmpits in that case why click on a thread were the OP has asked what you would buy, not if you would buy?

Maireas · 26/02/2022 23:45

@CharlotteTuesday - memorial bench?!
That's bonkers!
It's as if some people think that wanting a nice handbag puts you in league with Satan.

Journeynotdestination · 26/02/2022 23:46

I almost feel like starting a thread just to wind up the virtue signalling charity pratts on here. Just go away please. You try to put other people in a controlled box of your own worthy view of the how you think other people should behave. It’s obnoxious so please do F off.

ItsRainingTacos · 27/02/2022 00:03

I love a handbag thread 😃. £1k won't get you a decent sized luxury brand handbag from the original stores but have a look at brand new designer handbags on eBay. Don't go for the brands that are always counterfeited (Gucci, Dior etc). And ask the seller lots of questions, look at what else they're selling to help you suss out if the item is genuine.

I'm currently in love with my Marni Trunk bag in medium. Can be dressed up or worn with jeans and trainers.

The Prada double zip camera bag which has interchangeable leather and fabric straps is a perfectly sized bag for everyday use.

I have my eye on the Loewe puzzle bag but can't stretch to the high value it holds in the 2nd hand market.

For evening bags I have a couple of Bottega Veneta Olimpia bags in small and medium. I think they're the next best thing until I can afford a Chanel Grin
