What are you buying?

Well perhaps they should start their own thread elsewhere instead of derailing ones in style and beauty?

I don't think that's how forums work really. If you start a thread, people will comment. It's the nature of the beast. I'm not sure if everyone necessarily knows which topic a thread is in either, could easily have been chat for example.

jay55 · 27/02/2022 12:47

@MajorCarolDanvers

I'd spend about £50 on the bag and then have a nice holiday.

Anyone spending that kind of money on a bag needs their head examined.

So if I have £2k a month disposable income. I need my head examined if I spend 1/2 of it on a bag once a year?

Seriously?

What exactly is wrong with spending some money on something enjoyable? Especially when it's an item used all the time.

Some people spend on cars, golf clubs, watches, jewellery, holidays, their kids toys, on cleaners, on coffee, on expensive meals or sweaty fucking Betty leggings. Why is it a deemed a mental health issue if some of us choose handbags?

If you disliked tattoos, would you go onto a thread called “I’m thinking of getting a new tattoo, any suggestions?” and talk about how much you disliked tattoos? There is a social convention called ‘reading the room’ or ‘knowing your audience’, you should try it sometime.
NuffSaidSam · 27/02/2022 12:50

@Maireas

Also, *@NufSaidSam* No need for them to be personal, rude, or question whether or not the OP needs therapy. Just scroll by rather than that.
There's no need to be rude or offensive, I agree. I think a lot of it is somewhat light-hearted though. I'm not sure why it troubles people so much tbh. If it's fine to spend that on a bag, then spend it. Don't worry about what other people think.
DoThePropeller · 27/02/2022 12:52

@NuffSaidSam

I think it's the inclusion of the £1000 in the title. It comes across as a target rather than a budget.

It's not 'I want a luxury bag' or 'I want a chanel bag', it's I want a £1000 bag. It comes across like it's the price tag not the bag that is wanted.

I think if someone started a thread 'You have a £1000 to spend on your eyebrows what would you do' it would have got similar responses.

Or 'You have £1000 to spend on socks what would you do'.

Policing my language as well as my choices.

Full house! Ding ding. I win/lose Mumsnet.

Probably not, but I've seen it happen 😂

There is a social convention called ‘reading the room’ or ‘knowing your audience’, you should try it sometime.

I would say this is verging on being a bit rude/personal.

NuffSaidSam · 27/02/2022 12:55

Policing my language as well as my choices.

Having an interesting conversation about why this thread has attracted so many 'negative' comments.

I have no wish to police your language. Or you choices.

How's the bag hunt going?

LemonMuffins · 27/02/2022 13:03

Possible a Gucci Ophidia tote.

Or a second hand Gucci Marmont shoulder bag, however I like the light colours which is likely a mistake.

DoThePropeller · 27/02/2022 13:09

I’ve had some good ideas but don’t think I’ve found the one just yet - although I do keep returning to the Prada.

Going to pop to some real shops on Wednesday and see what grabs me in person, and then keep an eye out and see if I can rehome a pre-loved version.

I don’t tend to buy much new but wasn’t sure where to start with second hand bags as a big market of fakes but I’ve had some good suggestions of websites people have used and are legit.

I prefer the Prada to the Givenchy. Although, I don't think I'd buy either, I find them both a little boring. If the Prada can in a different colour, then I could get more excited.
Scoose · 27/02/2022 13:25

Try naughtipidgins nest too

DietrichandDiMaggio · 27/02/2022 14:10

I don't have the budget for £1000 bags, but do like looking at the suggestions people make and am interested in the choices people make. Just because I can't justify spending that much on a bag doesn't mean I can't understand why anyone else would. I'm currently lusting after a Loewe Flamenco, which I know I will never buy, but I think is beautiful.

strawberry2017 · 27/02/2022 14:31

I would love this so very much! It would be a dream!

RosesAndHellebores · 27/02/2022 14:38

Ha! I've just remembered the nicest bag I ever remember seeing was in the back window of Aspreys. I thought to myself that actually I probably would spend 4 figures on it and was so taken with it I looked it up on-line when I got home. Alas there was an 8 rather than a one heading three figures. I was pleased I must have good taste though. As a matter of interest, there was no name in metal letters no name embossed, no motif, nothing to identify a brand. Just pure unbridled simple style and quality.

sageandbasil · 27/02/2022 14:55

God I hate it when people jump on these threads with nothing helpful to say. I brought a LV neverful, it's checkered with red lining. It's beautiful!

TheDarrellRivers · 27/02/2022 15:41

@sammylady37 spot on

OP, I hope that you find a beautiful bag that makes you smile every time that you use it.

ItsRainingTacos · 27/02/2022 20:45

Just popping back to say - the Antigonia has been around for over a decade now. I imagine it will come to the end of production very soon. Handbag styles have changed a bit since then so there is little longevity in it. The style has already dated a bit and you can pick one up on eBay for around £500 if you really want it. I made the mistake of buying my Chloe Drew bag just as it was coming to being discontinued. While I still love it, I don't wear it much anymore. Same thing happened with my Bottega Venetta Olimpia bags - the company changed the look of the bags entirely in the following season and became more on trend. But luckily for me the shape of the Olimpia is not too dissimilar to the Chanel Flap bag which is a classic.

notanicepersonapparently · 27/02/2022 20:45

This would be my choice, although I've stretched your budget just a little. I prefer a slightly smaller bag myself and if I have loads to carry I take a fabric tote with other stuff in.

My first expensive handbag was a Mulberry Phoebe - that bag was so heavy! It wrecked my shoulder which is why I'm so careful to choose something lighter now.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 27/02/2022 20:50

That Gucci is gorgeous. My fave is my Gucci Soho - love a compact bag.

bendmeoverbackwards · 27/02/2022 21:21

@DoThePropeller have you looked at Strathberry? They’re less than £1K but lovely bags, you could get two!

I love bags and I know Mulberry are a bit unpopular on here but I love mine. I have an oxblood Tessie satchel which I use loads, a rust Leighton and a navy blue mini kite (less well used). I love their styling and leather. I’d love a Lily with silver hardware. Or a Darley. Or an Amberley 😂

DramaAlpaca · 27/02/2022 22:49

@bendmeoverbackwards I'm sure you're the poster who I have to thank for recommending Strathberry bags. I saw you mention them on another thread a while back, so I had a look and I'm now the proud owner of three of them. I wanted to thank you then but couldn't remember your username or find the thread Smile

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/02/2022 08:24

That’s great @DramaAlpaca which ones did you get? I have the miidi tote in Pearl grey which is beautiful. And j nabbed a small pink Allegra in the sale 😀

Juno22 · 28/02/2022 09:06

I made myself a big mug of tea before reading this thread, looking forward to seeing all the gorgeous bags. But I've had to plough through all the miserable posts about how the OP shouldn't be spending so much on a bag. It's her money - she can spend it how she wants!

Anyway OP, there are some gorgeous bags on here. I really like the Givenchy bag you linked, especially the colour, and also the YSL tote.

Charlottemh · 28/02/2022 09:41

www.givenchy.com/gb/en/mini-antigona-bag-in-grained-leather/BB05114012-001.html#start=1&sz=40

I’ve always thought the Givenchy Antigona would be a great office bag.

If not for the office, I’d love the Loewe puzzle bag. A bit over budget though.
