This is "Beauty addicts anonymous", a wonderful community of beauty product addicts & we have been going a hot minute... some may say we are enablers... many would say that they are much more intentional about their stashing and usage since joining this sisterhood.

Welcome @Blessex !!!

I do dream of a more minimalist look to my skincare. Do we know if Chanel skincare is any good?

supa I have never ‘met’ anyone before who has ever mentioned Estée Lauder pure linen perfume. It’s my favourite and I’ve loved it for ages. I am a massive Estée Lauder fan though, and have been for 25 years.

Lovely to see this thread so active!

Only one empty for me - 30ml Estée Lauder foaming cleaner. It was part of a GWP but it is my joint favourite cleanser (with Elemis dynamic resurfacing cleanser) so I will buy again and again.

I am doing monthly target lists of products to use up in 2022, having had great success with this in 2020. Not made my target of ten, but making good progress.

PomRuns · 03/02/2022 12:14

Hello - hope all well. Big hello to all new people too.

2 empties from me.
Aveda Damage remedy 1litre conditioner. Recurrent purchase for me, will replace if there is a good GWP- normally wait for Liberty. Anyway, I really this, keeps my hair shiny and in good condition despite blow drying and using GHDs or Revlon one step 3-4 times a week.

Hourglass caution mascara. I loved this, big go out eyelashes but it dried up quickly. Puts me off repurchasing I think.
How long do we think a mascara should last - think was opened in November. So lasted less than 3 months.

17/100 products & 4 samples.

@Blessex ha the minimal gorgeous designer shelf - aim for me too !

Today I pulled out a Nars liquid bronzer/highlighter gel thing that I used to love mixing with my sunscreen. It’s half empty, and getting long in the tooth, so I thought I’d give it a go. After using the Fenty Skin Sauce every day for almost a year, I can tell you unequivocally that I have absolutely gone right off the Nars one. I’d be donating it to the DD’s if they had a similar skin tone as me, but they are pale, piglet pink. (I somehow managed to inherit rogue, more golden/olive hued gene from somewhere. ) I feel like a very bad girlfriend who has moved onto a better option but can’t help but go back and see if the ex is still pining, then rub his face in her newfound happiness with the better option. (*Just so you know, I’ve never done this with a human. I’m not that girl IRL at all, btw!) Nars has been binned and Fenty has my heart. (Pity, as it’s running dangerously low!)

Justilou1 · 03/02/2022 12:37

@PomRuns - I had the exact same issue with the Hourglass mascara!!! Tbh, I have given up on expensive ones and have had better luck with bloody Maybelline. (Or at least have lower expectations.)

Babysharkdoodoodood · 03/02/2022 13:07

Just a couple of samples today. Sisley anti-age serum x 2. Lovely but too spendy. They used to do a sample subscription for £70/year and every month got a nice bag full of hair and face stuff with a scent Really miss that.
Also a mini Bobby Brown make up remover that made my eyes sting like fuckery. So that went in the binGrin

Blessex · 03/02/2022 13:44

@Experiment627 so Chanel products have brilliant sensorials - fragrances and textures.

Now when it comes to actives there are a few that I need:

Retinol - but I forget over the counter for that. Go prescription strength or go home.

Vitamin C - get that in powder form from the ordinary and add it to a liquid moisturiser just before you apply. Vitamin C is unstable and breaks down when bought already in a liquid form.

Niacinamide - I go the ordinary for that.

That leaves the perfect aha/bha product and a sun screen (the latter Chanel probably does)

Ha so Chanel for the basic face wash, serum and moisturiser topped up with a few more actives. Boom.

First I need to clear the 30 gazillion products tho!

Blessex · 03/02/2022 13:45

@Babysharkdoodoodood oh gosh I forgot I love Sisley too especially their masks

Logana13 · 03/02/2022 13:48

Nononono - last thing I need is more temptation!

MidnightMeltdown · 03/02/2022 15:36

@PomRuns

According to the 'experts' (probably people who work in the beauty industry and want to flog mascaras) you are supposed to replace your mascara every 3 months due to build up of bacteria.

I often use mine for around 6 months and I haven't lost an eye yet.

Caggie09 · 03/02/2022 17:04

49/100.

I broke my no buy. An Aldi dupe for the Laura Mercier honey bath got me. Its £6 compared to the £45/55 LM. I used it last night, it smells lovely, and i love the little honey dipper you get with it. I love LM body and bath stuff, but £50 for a bubbles is spendy, so Aldi dupe isnt bad really. Wish the scent was abit more powerful though.

Anyway!

-Mitchum. HG.

  • NatureLab scalp scrub. Im trying to grow my hair, its already pretty long anyway, so upping my hair care game. Ive used a scalp scrub for about 2-3 year now, and i find it does really make a difference for me. Happy scalp, happy hair! I liked this one as it wasnt too scrubby and the salt parts quickly turn to a lather. I think it can be a little stripping at times, as sometimes my hair squeeks!
  • Garnier SPF. Another HG. I will never buy another SPF. Doesnt make my eyes water, sinks quickly and no white cast.
  • Aldi sheet mask. Argh, another one that was made for someone with a tiny face. Was ok.

@Blessex I cannot wait to see a picture of your skincare shelf when you have got through your stash

OP posts:
PomRuns · 03/02/2022 19:03

Interesting you had the same experience @Justilou1 I’m sure it was over £30 too ! You’re cheating comparison made me smile.
@MidnightMeltdown pleased to hear 😂
So I’ve gone old school and ordered Lancôme Defincils to replace.

Ponks · 03/02/2022 22:31

Gawd I'm terrible for keeping a mascara going too long, got a Bobbi Brown one I've been using for 10 months now ... ok ok that's probably too long. I remember my mum having mascara in a palette like an eyeshadow, she must have used that for years!

Gutted today as finished my Drunk Elephant retinol. Really like this, I'd heard that lots of people found it irritating but I've been fine with it (and love the twist up cap). So now I'm thinking about whether to try prescription tretinoin rather than an over the counter retinol. May as well give it a go for a few months.

I've been on a no buy for skincare and makeup since Christmas and it's actually felt very restful. Not used up much of the stash - a normal size cleanser or moisturiser lasts me ages. But at least it's not been increasing.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 03/02/2022 23:25

Pffft, amateurs! I’ve had mascaras for years.

Lovely to see new posters on the thread and read the reviews.

TheChosenTwo · 04/02/2022 00:00

I’ve definitely kept mascaras for over the recommended amount of time, never had an infection in my life!

MidnightMeltdown · 04/02/2022 00:24

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName 🤣🤣

I try to be a bit careful because I'm a contact lens wearer, but the reality is that I just forget how long I've been using it.

I used an eyeliner the other day that is probably about 6 years old - and I expect that's just as bad!

Blessex · 04/02/2022 01:19

@Ponks it’s prescription retinol or go home

Why have a single when you can have one that works

Justilou1 · 04/02/2022 09:14

@Blessex - your skincare attitude is very similar to mine. Also go Tret or go home. My plan is to clear all skincare then mix Ordinary Vit C & Niacinamide Powders in with my ‘ol faithful Hada Labo HA lotion. (Cheaper and more effective than The Ordinary, and has other actives, depending on which one you buy.) I won’t change that up. Then some kind of retinol for my neck & dec, sunscreen (of course) and ceramides. (Have some new ones coming… my bad!)

Justilou1 · 04/02/2022 09:18

@PomRuns - the Hourglass Mascara wasn’t a fluke. It happened to two of them. Luckily I didn’t pay for them, but I did keep notes of the dates they were opened. Actually think Hourglass has kind of lost the plot, tbh… Much as I adore their powders, they have absolutely rested on their laurels and done nothing remotely interesting for a few years, and their last eyeshadow release was a combination of uninspiring colours and formulas, hideous drugstore palette from the early 90’s aesthetic and ludicrously out of touch price!!!

PomRuns · 04/02/2022 09:47

@Justilou1 such a shame as I think the mascara is good. I opened a GWP mascara - eyelure? It’s not as good, might have to crack open my Lancôme.

@MidnightMeltdown @SlatternIsMyMiddleName I’ve done very old eyeliners - I might chuck them abs replace. I’m hoping for a Sephora visit in 2 weeks - well if we pass our lat flow testing we’ll be in America for half term.

I need to look into Retinol - just have a couple of things to use first.
Interesting read the Vit C powder. I’ve a Dermatologica Vit C serum - not tried yet.

PomRuns · 04/02/2022 10:02

Sorry typos.

It’s an eyeko mascara - think I’ve had a couple in GWP. Nor sure where the eyelure came from ! Anyway - I don’t think it’s that good.

WellTidy · 04/02/2022 10:12

Some empties:

Occitane rose hand cream 75ml. Very heavily scented (I like rose, but this one was way too strong), and not a patch in the Shea hand creams that they do. Would not recommend.

Garnier eye sheet mask in grey/blue/green packaging. Loved this and would RP. Great for fine lines.

woodhill · 04/02/2022 10:45

Off to Boots with my empties.

Small Emma Hardie protect & prime- great product

Some random body lotion

Vitamin c serum

Avon foot cream

Toothbrush
